Please delete this thread if need be, but I was just wondering something: Thor is set to be released next May and Captain America is set for July - only two months after, and we haven't heard a single thing about casting, locations, etc.

Will production have enough time to make the movie if it is set to be released next July or are they going to be rushing a little bit?

I may just be looking into it too much, but I was just wondering.

Any thoughts?

Right, Thor is due out 5/20/11 and CA 7/22/11

We got plenty of time..

Well remember that Thor has a lot more CG special effects they have to do, while Captain America is more grounded in reality and more of a war movie, so they don't need as much extensive postproduction like Thor does.

But I definitely do think we should get some news, anything really. I think they said they'd start shooting in June '10, so there's plenty of prep time. Johnston just has his hands caught up in what is apparently a mess of a movie that's Wolfman. He came into production as kind of a replacement director when they lost the first one and they're trying to rework it, bringing in top editors to haul it over. That's what I heard at least. It's due for February so hopefully he'll have his focus on Cap soon enough and we'll get SOME form of news.

I think I not as worried because with Thor and GL they both will have alot of over the top effects like space, lightning strikes, monsters, etc.

Cap will have more practical effects

But I wish we had at least a casting rumor to go on

Yeah, and not even just Cap, ANY casting would be nice. Don't even have to say who they're playing, at least the guessing would be a bit exciting. Cap news has been dull.

we got to be coming up on some casting soon. This director needs to get his **** together and finish wolfman. Marvel cant be happy he is still working on that movie. To be honest I wouldnt mind if he were just replaced cause they have to move on, I was never thrilled about him anyway

I would expect to start getting solid news about Cap in January when Thor principle filming starts and Ironman promotion will be at full swing. Marvel news will be all over the place.

and just because we haven't heard anything, yet, doesn't mean nothing is happening

Yea there is still plently of time for cap film. First joe just officially started pre production work earlier this month. So stuff for cap is just getting under way. I would figure casting would begin between dec-mayish. Since production is due to start in june. So they will likely have most of cast set by march. So that will give them a few months for training, costume fittings, and all that other stuff. Plus cap is probably going to be a more pratical effects/shot film. So probably very little cgi effects. So they dont need a huge post production time. Film will probably go from june-oct and then the rest of the time will be for post production, reshots, and marketing the film.

Where as thor is a different type film. Where it needs more time for post production work. Since its a fantasy/cgi effect heavy type of film. So they will need more time to get the effects up and going and all that. So for cap there is nothing to be worried about yet. Now if we dont have any casting by march that would be to to worry and all that. As for filming its likely going to be shot in cali with some other spots.

Really without reading the script you dont know what kind of effects Cap will have in it. If Marvel isnt worried then Im not

^^ I'm with you Roach... They've got the whole thing planned.

yea only thing we would have to worry is if we start hearing bad thing happening to production and we dont have any cast set prior to like 3 months before it goes into production. As for type of film you we can figure cap is likely to be less cgi driven and more pratical shot type of film. cap doesnt need to be cgi heavy like thor/ironman/ or a spider-man.

we dont know that cap will be more practical than cgi. No one has read the script. What if Cap has to stop the Red Skulls giant robot armada from destroying New York.

Just the way Cap moves concerns CGI. Maybe not Hulk like CGI but still there should be plenty if they do Cap justice. Maybe like the Transporter like stuff.

cap i really dont think will need more cgi effects to pull off his strength, speed, agility. That can all be done with little cgi effects and more pratical effects/wire work.

Good point on the wires, I wasn't thinking clearly about that when thinking about CGI. Here's hoping they do it well. I want Cap to put early Abomination (Blonsky) to shame.

We can only assume, we really don't know what will be required yet.

Kevin Feige has said they plan to start filming in June

YEa its been stated it will be june probably mid/late june my guess. So that gives us well into 7 months before going into production. Plus we have no clue if casting has stated. But i am sure they will probably have most of the cast set by march. Cause they will need at least 2-3 months for costume fittings, training, and reshersals and all that.

We aren't running out of time, but our patients is running thin.
