Arrow Arrow Season 2 Episode 17: "Birds of Prey" Rate and Review Thread

I am fine with the way Diggle was utilized this episode. This show has become an ensemble like Game of Thrones. Not everyone is going to be a fixture in every episode except Oliver Queen.

That doesn't justify ignoring characters for most of the episodes this season.

I disagree. It's an ensemble show akin to Buffy and NCIS are ensemble shows. The comparison with Game of Thrones isn't accurate as it's not like the show is constantly needing to jump from place to place with dozens of regular characters. As there are much fewer characters on the show, it's less excusable if it's unable to feature them more evenly. Especially if long-standing recurring characters are getting more screentime, development, relevance and (most importantly) integration with other characters than its regulars.

This episode was ok but overall not the best Arrow had to offer. I was fine with how they used Dig because he just had an entire episode devoted to him last week.

To be brutally honest, apart from Arrow, everyone is a side character. And some function better as only a side character.Whenever they push Digg,Laurel and even Felicity into the spotlight,my reaction is usually mixed at best.

Yeah, the scene where Felicity confronts Moira was a tense one for me, because it looked as through the Felicity character was developing into something else. For a minute, i though she was going to blackmail Moira..that would have killed the character's appeal for me.

I'm all for more development of the Felicty character, etc but they need to be careful how they do it.

I can't say I've watched a ton of Buffy but Ive seen NCIS and that just doesn't compare in the slightest. That show is way more self contained this is a serialized format. Arrow has 10 regulars I believe with another 7-8 reoccurring characters. There just isn't enough screen time for everyone every episode Diggs just had almost a whole hour about him. I do think it's a credit to the writers that people want more Diggs. After all I can not imagine many people longing for more Alfred or Montoya.

I don't understand... Felicity assisted Oliver in a few kills last season, didn't she?

That has more to do with the subpar writing.

Yeah. But we also just went through several episodes where he has almost nothing, and with almost no progression for his story. If a show can't juggle its characters properly then the writers are doing something wrong one way or another. And I wouldn't mind more of them.

Can't let the episode discussion get wrapped up without mentioning TDK reference #347.Donner makes reference to a "Rico case".:awesome:

That's a stretch. RICO is anything to do with organized crime….

Ya it's a huge stretch to think that. I'm pretty sure one of Sons of Anarchy season storylines was that law trying to get them on a RICO charge.

So to say RICO is a reference to Dark Knight you also have to say it is a reference to every movie and TV show that have ever used it.

Right, but if you've only seen it mentioned in TDK like some people (hint: me :o) and/or have watched that movie an insane amount of times, you can't help but think of it being featured there as well.

Every other ep of The Sopranos made reference to the RICO laws...

I'm a tad concerned that "Team Arrow" is getting too big. Is anyone else thinking that? In the opening scenes I was like, "Damn, it's Oliver, Diggle, Felicity, Sara, and Roy ALL in the Arrow Cave together." - It just seems like a bit much...

It's going to be a little more distressing, because you KNOW there will come a time in the near future where Quentin Lance AND Laurel will know Oliver's secret, and then we're looking at almost the entire cast knowing who The Arrow is. It's sort of a process-of-elimination from there. Laurel has to find out that Sara is Canary, Thea will find out about Roy AND Oliver. Malcolm Merlyn and Slade Wilson know who Oliver is... doesn't seem very unreasonable to think Moira will find out.

I don't know. I think the writers will have to skate very carefully in Season 3. It's looking like major, major characters could die off, and I don't see Diggle or Felicity leaving anytime soon.

I think everyone who should know, knows at this point.I guess Thea might be ok knowing,(depending on what they do with the character.)But I don't think Lance should know.If Laurel knows, again,we have the problem of what to do with her.Moira will probably find out just before she gets killed off.(whenever that may be)

UNLESS... Moira already knows. That would be interesting.

Some people seem to think that Quentin already knows, which, for all intents and purposes, he should damn well figure it out by now.

I still have this delirious/elaborate theory that Walter Steele is Ra's Al Ghul, so what do I know? hahaha.

If Lance knows,I want Oliver to present him with a 14 karrot gold trophy for being an exceptionally gifted actor in not betraying any semblance of the knowledge for weeks on end.:o

The thing people need to remember is that while I'm sure eventually Moira, Thea, and Lance will find out, it's highly unlikely they're all going to stay alive. Sarah's added to that as well, especially if they still plan to make Laurel BC. To be honest, I'd put good money down that one of those 4 don't make it out of this season.

Definitely.

I think Moira's a goner. If Thea goes too, Oliver has no family, and he's one step closer to being literally from the comics.:word:
