Comics ASM 535 previews

Skim read the issue today. Fully in support of what JMS has done.

Loved the last page.

'Nuff said.

Yes, I reckon Reed is next to wise up after Peter. Though you'd think Sue and Ben leaving, not to mention what happened to Johnny would have wised him up. But then Marvel's smartest heros are being written like idiots in this storyline

I wouldn't have even TOUCHED it had I not heard that Peter finally wises up in this one. So I picked it up. Peter finally sees what was blatantly obvious.

I wouldn't say he comes across as a bad ass. He comes across as a guy with an ounce of sense. Something which has been missing from his character for a loooooooooooong time.

Next issue will hopefully show him as a bad ass, by giving Tony Stark a severe ass kicking.

I'll give it a glance if I go to the comic shop today. If it's as good as you say, I may have to pick it up. The next issue will definitely pull me out of my anti-Spidey slump....so long as it doesn't feature Spidey getting totally owned by Tony or anythign like that.

it's only good to read because it's starting to bring the real Peter Parker back, not because it's a particularly great story. it's a huge improvement, but that's not saying much.

thing is... I think it's hard to be excited about Peter going back to his old self because he shouldn't have changed in the first place.

is it nice to see him finally wising up and growing some balls? yeah, but it doesn't excuse the pain it was to read him prior to this.

Does anyone know if CW#5 will ship before the ASM#536? Seems like this dust-up between Peter and Tony would have to fit between installments...
I'm really looking forward to seeing Spidey put the beat-down on Iron Man.
Hope that's how it goes down.

We can't tell yet. So far, Spidey and Iron Man just kind of glower at each other until the last page, when Stark finally decides to take on Peter. We'll have to see the outcome next issue.

Anyway, fantastic issue. If only JMS had never stopped writing Spidey like this...

I don't get why a small reprieve on the stupidity stakes makes up for the consequences he will now suffer due to the consistant **** up's made by the writers.

Peter: "Gee, uncy Stark d'you think putting heroes in a prison without trial iz bwad?"

Stark: "No."

Peter: "You're mean."

Stark: "No sh1t."

Peter: "Oh Reed, why are we ssooo mean?"

Reed: "My uncle was a clown, and he was an outsider because of it... but I loved him. Therefore we must imprison good people, kill, maime and totally take a crap on the constitution and everything I have ever believed in. Oh and my family have pissed off now too. Because I might be an outsider if I don't do this, and then what would my now non-existant family do... outcast me! I couldn't bear that. I mean look at my stubble, c'mon!"

Peter: "....'kay."

May: "What's wrong?"

Peter: "Oh Auntie may, I think I did a bwad thing. Oh hey... there's my brain. *cough* I totally contradicted everything that made me who I am, exposed you to the world based on the protection of an idiot which we will now snub to freedom and I have been a total ****. Now lets run away and be merry with my identity known to the world, hunted down... didn't see that coming. No really."

*collective sigh*

I mean how many people here saw this exact moment in their minds the second this whole farce was in motion? *raises hand*

The whole situation has been a false dilema and artificially created, none of it flowed or suited the characters at all just so they could have a big fight really. Make a 'what if marvel had a big fight' book and be done with it. This whole thing has tarnished reputations and made Marvel somewhat of a laughing stock. Well in my mind anyway, I've been reading some 5/5 reviews for the latest civil war book and wonder if I am reading the same thing.

Personally I had no problem believing Peter would throw in with Tony Stark. Tony kinda had him by the short hairs anyway, already having knowledge of his identity and all. Peter's just young and naive enough to go for it; this is Iron Man, after all.

To me, Reed Richards has been the most out-of-character.
I suspect Reed and Tony may both be behaving this way for reasons unknown, even to them.

Can someone give a really good detailed summary of the issue? I'm broke... :(

*raises both hands and a foot*

But what was the last page? Is Tony & Pete about to throw down or something?

Tony busting through a wall, going for Peter, and they're just about to throw their fisticuffs at each other.

I don't know if I like them making Ironman out to be the bad guy. I always liked Ironman and I don't think they did him justice although, I have to admit, I'd love to see them fight now that SM has his new suit. Who do you guys think will win?

If the fight's in ASM, Spidey should take him.
I think Stark's gonna be sorry he built that silly-ass "Iron Spidey" armor.

Its spider-man he will more than likely win. I really hope IM is under mind control. Sure he is an ass and always has been but he isn't this big of an ass.

I think you're right. On normal stances, SM(sorry to say) would have his ass handed to him by Ironman. But, now I think SM might give him a run for his money. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

I never thought he was an ass. Maybe a bit selfish, but never an ass...until now.

Armor wars showed he was an ass. Well they did take his tech so he had to be one.

See...he had a good reason. He's not a bad guy. They just make him out to be in this issue for some reason. I guess just so that we would get to see them fight.

The real problem I see with Peter fighting Tony in the Iron Spidey suit is Tony simply triggering some coded command and shutting Peter's suit down. Because Tony foresaw that this might happen.

I liked how Peter /wasn't/ wearing the suit to visit the Negative Zone. I also, finally, got to feel some sympathy for Reed... but, wow, dude, way to take the utterly wrong lesson from what happened to your uncle. *chuckle*

Smart people can do very stupid things sometimes. This is a fact of life.

I've just finished reading it, loved it.

Great to see Peter finally grow some balls and stand up to Tony about everything so far.

Marc speaketh the truth...

Hey, maybe I'm blind or dumb (or both, throw in deaf and I'll get a million bucks in disability pension) but how come when they go to the N-Zone prison in the new ASM, it's all high-tech and almost cozy looking (bright, VR units for some, etc.) but the N-Zone prison of Civil War Frontline is a dar, grimey affair? Sure there's a good explanation that I'm not grasping.

I can totally understand why Tony is the way he is. I just page back to a little crossover in the Avengers titles in the 90's called... The Crossing.

I was actually disappointed that there was a lack of clone talk in this issue, I figured there would have been an inkling. Guess they're going to stay in that mode where it's quite taboo to mention clone in a Spider-Man comic without a joke being inserted after it.

We finally got to see the beginning of the turning point. Now things are going to get freakin' crazy, what with a set of dangerous super villains out there now, and one of them being the Green F'n Goblin.

I'm kind of getting used to seeing Garney's art but it's just making me miss Romita Jr. more and more. I

was a little disappointed in the issue, I thought it could have been a little more intense but the last page was worth it.

I just hope we dont see Peter fall in what may be the shortest rebellion of his career.

During one of Stark's bouts with alcoholism, His Right Hand Man, Jim Rhodes, took over as Iron Man...long story short; the two ended up at odds, and Stark donned his original (and far less powerful) suit and shut Rhodes down by over-riding his suits command center...

Since he built Peter's current suit, he more than likely can do the same thing to Peter.

It CAN be blocked though. Years later, Stark and Rhodes had yet another tiff, this time with Stark as IM, and Rhodes as war Machine, and Rhodes remembered to change the command codes before engaging Stark in combat.

Hopefully, Peter thought to do the same, although if it were me, i'd have just tossed the suit out the window and tried to escape without it....
