Does anyone know what that other map is for? I know it shows Templars, but how do I look at it again? It pops up at different moments and after the credits before you are loaded back into the game.

What can you do in free roam exploring now?,Is there any pirate ship battles or free roaming online?

Yea you can sail your ship all over the map. Discover locations, dive for treasure, go whaling, attack forts and of course attack and board other ships. No free roam online tho. It's match based.

Why is that I'm just now discovering all this hate for ACIII?

I pretty much loved that game when it was released. Yeah, the modern day storyline almost completely lost steam by the end, but I enjoyed Conner's story quite a bit, and I liked Connor just fine. Why the hate?

And I beat ACIV yesterday. It's an excellent addition to the canon. Good stuff.

The modern day stuff is the biggest problem in every game since the first imo. I never want to play it.

I don't know, hearing that they have a definitive end for it (which I had thought was going to be in III) is somewhat encouraging. It's still vaguely interesting to me, but obviously the historical stuff trumps it immensely.

I enjoyed the s**t outta ACIII. I just didn't care for Connor. Thought he made for a crappy assassin compared to Altair and Ezio before. Those guys represented the creed, to me, Connor just happened to use their weapons and dress like them.

I like Connor's combat and hunting better than Edward. The whaling is great but hunting land animals with Edward is just point and shoot your gun or a dart. When you hunted with connor it depended on what weapon you used, which affected the meat and price in ACIII. spear fishing at ports or at island beaches for ACIV would have been a welcome addition.

Also Connor runs faster and has way more weapons than Edward. You could throw 2 handed weapons with Connor. With Edward using 4 pistols and 2 swords you would think they would have a lot of them to choose. Really the choice is narrowed down to 2 sets that are worth getting or have better stats. I just go cosmetic with the Scottish swords and Mayan suit.

The open world is way better in ACIV though. Only a few load screens to ports in the large cities, diving bells, and whaling. Other than that you can sail to any island with no loading. Also the ship combat is awesome. Only gripe is in AC III the chain shot actually disabled a ship, you didn't have to get it down to a certain health. You could just use chain shot to break mast and disable a ship. I never use my chain shot anymore in ACIV. mortar and round to heavy shots win every battle. I figure it is because of boarding. You could'nt free run on a broken mast so they probably changed the chain shot. Boarding at will is awesome as well. You can even swim to another ship and kill everyone. Then get back on your ship and destroy the enemies defenseless ship. Only problem is you can't release the wheel in combat so you have to plan ahead if you want to do this. The forts are fun to take over and useful once you own them. If you fight a ship near your fort the fort helps with their cannons. Speaking of which, you can't use your cannons in forts for fun. Would be fun to use the cannons at the fort to sink ships. One last thing about cannons. If you go to a plantation warehouse island you can't use the jackdaw weapons to shoot the soldiers on the pier.

Yea I preferred the combat and weapons in AC III as well. I was disappointed in what weapons we could and couldn't carry, altho that's been an issue for me since the orig AC

Like I said.. My major problem with AC III was Conner did EVERYTHING. I get that in AC he events that happened in history may not have "happened how we learned" but according to ACIII our founding fathers were bumbling goofs and Conner really did all the work.

Plus, Conner was just a prick.

it has been explained in every game the templars and assassins affect the fate of the world. so it makes sense that they are responsible for a lot of things that alter history. these games are a fictional look behind the scenes. maybe you are just biased since it was set in america. the other assassin's did the same thing in their respective cities.

So? The game wasn't there to show how awesome the Founding Fathers were.

Both Ezio and Conner stood up to the most powerful organisation in the world. If anything I'd say Assassin's Creed II makes the Catholic Church look worse than AC III does for the Continentals.

That's not really any different than any other AC game. I mean they put you in the center of these events. Connor was just a crappy member of the assassins, that's what has made him the least liked hero so far.

well edward isn't a member of either. so this isn't even "assassin's" creed. he doesn't even get any assassin training. just has the skills. altair was the only master assassin, everyone else at least got training. edward is just winging it. the only problem i had with AC III was the free running in towns. the building were too far apart to cross. the previous games had dense cities that were fun to run on rooftops. AC IV tried to bring this back. they have way more things to traverse building to building. adding the trees and post and wires helped alot.

i think the treasure hunting was fun, but a little too easy. the shanties were good but i could barely hear them sometimes. also collecting them made no sense. would have been better if you learned them in a bar from new crew members you recruit. maybe complete a challenge to recruit this crewman who teaches you a new song.

i still like the game alot, makes me excited for the next iteration. they always make great improvements. i wonder what could top sailing though. maybe flying? sailing is good though there are lots of civilizations that use ships. so the places are infinite.maybe the next game will be in the bermuda triangle.

He didn't even feel like a member of the Assassin's...he just sort of did his own thing.

Thats not really accurate. Edward wasn't an assassin over the course of time AC IV took place in, but its CLEAR at the end of the game he was going to join their cause [BLACKOUT]as a promise to Mary and through change in his own heart[/BLACKOUT]. We don't know what happened after the game ended. Rather or not Edward devoted the rest of his life to the Creed or not. But its clear he was joining the Assassins and taking up their cause when the game ended.

And honestly its possible Connor went down the same path after the credits rolled in ACIII. Maybe he realized he needed to devote his life to the Creed, but over the course of the game, he didn't seem too concerned with their battle against the Templars even though he was being mentored by an Assassin.

.

that is what i said, edward isn't an assassin or templar in the game. doesn't matter what we assume, what we get in AC IV is a guy who is not an assassin. he is a pirate. the assassins tell him over and over he is not one of them and hasn't earned the suit YET. we know he will choose a side but the fact is he still is just a pirate in this game.

So I'm going to Future Shop tomorrow because they have that trade in a game get one free and I'm just curious how AC4 is. Is it worth getting?

The difference being how they viewed the guild. Connor never showed any respect towards the guild before or after he joined. We saw Edward BEFORE he was an assassin so we can't say how he felt about them once he joined. We saw Connor while he was an assassin and he still didn't respect the Creed. That's why Connor was such a poor member of the assassins, assuming his attitude remained after the event of ACIII concluded.

So let me get this straight, through some certain events....the events of past games are public knowledge and people can tap into ancestral memories for like, entertainment? Because in the beginning, during the first present day scene, that red head says "have you played our latest? Liberation?" And that female assassin is flashed on screen.

I'm confused. :(

Aside from that. I'm enjoying the game all the same.

I seem to be having this weird problem where I'm plundering ships with like 50 or 105 wood on them, and my wood supply count is stuck at 482. Help?

Well, we certainly know from AC3 that Haytham's dad (i.e., Edward) was an assassin, so Edward definitely becomes a full-fledged member after the game ends. How powerful he became, and how devoted he was to the Creed, is, of course, totally unclear; nor do we know if his life as an Assassin took place in Europe or the Americas, or both. I'm sure there's some DLC down the road that will tie up some of those loose ends.

As for Connor, I think it's safe to assume he *did* become more devoted to the Cause after AC3, because obviously there's at least *some* Assassins still in America in modern times. And Connor -- and maybe Aveline, I don't know much about her -- seem to be the reason for that, unless there were other Assassins in America that we haven't heard about yet. Really, AC3 gave me the impression that Achilles was the only one left in the American colonies during the game, and he had practically given up on the Creed until Connor came along.

Yeah, Abstergo is selling the AC experience for entertainment, and it blurs the lines between our reality and video game reality. Abstergo is still trying to keep some things hush-hush, and some memories and secrets buried, and you'll see that in this game. They seem particularly averse to letting you --- the gamer/player, in real life and in the virtual world --- find out anything about Desmond.

Not sure I agree with that decision...but oh well. Having said that, I feel freaking overwhelemed by the size of this game. It feels massive.
