Rogue places fans in the shoes of a Templar, controlling former Assassin-turned-Templar Shay Patrick Cormac. Employing the popular naval gameplay from Black Flag, you navigate a ship across the frigid North Atlantic. Other locales you visit include the Appalachian River Valley and a reimagined New York. Shay is an assassin hunter who has to be even more clever to outsmart his sneaky foes. This entry takes place during the Seven Years' War, filling in the gap between Black Flag and Assassin's Creed III. We won't spoil much, but it has a crucial link to the Kenway saga. Our exclusive feature gives more insight into Shay, details how the cold waters are different from Black Flag's Caribbean setting, and discusses the tools Shay has at his disposal for outsmarting assassins. The Seven Years' War is part of what lead to France's financial troubles, and it's hinted that Shay has even deeper ties to Unity.

Pretty unexpected announcement there. Guess that solves our "Comet" mystery.

I'll definitely play it, but I just wonder if there's anything there to differentiate it from AC3 or Black Flag in terms of gameplay and story. Looks largely like a rehash, only from a different POV.

I've got to wonder what they mean by "Appalachian River Valley," though. No such thing, unless they mean "generic river running through the Appalachians." Given the 1754-1763 setting, though, including New York (before the burned-out shell we got in AC3), I'm almost 90% sure they meant to say "HUDSON River Valley." Which would make sense, since it would explore the French & Indian War again, the American campaign of the Seven Years' War. That also happens to be where Connor's story begins.

Betting good money that "Shay Patrick Cormac" has dropped his surname: Kenway.

The bloodline:

Edward Kenway
|
Haytham Kenway and Shay Patrick Cormac (brother or half-brother to Haytham)
|
Connor Kenway

I dunno... I don't think it'll be that obvious. Especially when he's clearly Irish in the trailer.

I do think he might link to Achilles though, as a sole survivor of the Assassins in America.

So we're gonna be a bad guy then?

kind of a risk to release this in November with Unity hitting. I think that might hurt its sales. I think a release around Jan/Feb would have been better.

Ubisoft sure is milking this franchise, aren't they :D .

Well goddammit! Thought I was done with last gen purchases. Just when i think im out, they pull me back in.

I really wanted more Kenway story, so this is right up my alley.

It looks good but wish it had been a current gen only. They can do so much more if they focus on just one gen.

Agreed, but the franchise is just too big to only release on 13-15 million consoles compared to the 140 million plus of the last gen.

The development of this game was handled by a different development team from the one that did Unity. One that is focusing on last gen. Unity was done by a development team that is focused on current gen. Unity isnt being held back by Ubisoft catering to last gen. We've essentially got a Ubisoft Current Gen and a Ubisoft Last Gen. They are a part of the same company but operate with different hardware and make different games so that last gen games dont hold back the current gen games.

Looks like Shay's a true former-Assassin-turned-Templar, as opposed to Haythem's Templar with Assassin skills. His monologue also speaks to a personal conviction leading to his defection. Hopefully, this means we'll see a more nuanced portrayal of the Templar and Assassin ideologies and both sides positive and negative impacts. I figure Shay will be responsible for the destruction of most of the New World order of Assassins, and maybe even the New World Order of the Templars; Haythem's putting together his own branch at the same time, so maybe Shay hunted Templars when he was an assassin only to turn on his brethren afterwards.

And I figure Shay may be Elise's father, and maybe he argues for a kind of anti-chaos philosophy his daughter will express to Arno in his game. Unity definitely seems to imply that the Revolution that Arno will help unleash may grow too wild for even him.

I do like the Genre-Savvy nature of Shay deciding to shoot a wounded assassin rather than wander within his reach; he's at least more pragmatic than the Red Viper of Dorne.

Oberyn: the badass fool.:(

I'm interested, but i'm worried this is a super short game like Revelations.

Revelations was built for the 3DS so that would explain why it was short. I don't think Rogue will have that issue as the PS3/360 don't have those limitations

eta: scratch that. Stupid RE on the mind.

I'm already much more interested in this than Unity. First for the sailing once again. Then, for New York.
Hope it doesn't feel like a rehash of the last one.

Wow, indeed one heck of a surprise. I've loved everything we've seen Unity so far. When I first heard the mumblings of a last gen A.C. I wasn't sure about it. With that said, this sounds very interesting. I guess I'll be checking out both this fall.

I don't wanna be an Templar though.

They're *******s. :(

Is that a grenade launcher attachment under Shay's barrel?

Because that's kind of badass if true.
