I can see them trying to remake Silent Hill one of these days. Though that Silent Hill sequel made the first one look like a masterpiece.
The Silent Hill sequel is an abomination that we must not speak of.

I'm not asking for the world but a decent Silent Hill adaption isn't impossible, you just need a decent horror based director who doesn't pointless change the gender of the protagonist. And yes adventure games like Uncharted should be fairly easy to adapt as well.

You're talking about Hollywood, one of the most stubborn and backwards industry out there. Try to explain Metal Gear to an exec, and he'll ignore your notes, and go "What if Snake...had two eyepatches".

Then explain why there's no movement on video game movies then? We've been waiting for that a similar movement that pushed the comic book genre forward but it hasn't happened. Why?

The other obvious thing is that you got hacks being involved with these game adaptations, like Paul WS Anderson. I know that his Resident Evil movies have a fancies, but when that's the status quo and it's not being challenged, then it'll remain stagnant. Ari Arad doesn't totally help. I don't know if he's this moron that people are trying to make him out to be but he's not the midas touch either. Not anymore.
I mean that first thing you could say with CBM's too or any movie. Why would video games be harder to give notes on by that logic. Giving notes on a video game movie is as fine as giving notes on any other property.

Why is there no movement on video games? Because no one really gives a s*** about them in Hollywood. Why wasnt there much movement on films on DC characters until recently? Why wasn't there much movement on _____? Because no one in charge gave a s***. No studio head sees them as a good property for some reason. All it takes is someone in charge to care. I dont know that many studio big wigs so Im just gonna use Kevin Fiege for example. You think if a Kevin Fiege or Jerry Bruckheimer didnt want a Uncharted movie that it wouldnt happen?
Also I know some video game companies hold on to the rights. I think that's what happened with a lot of Nintendo properties and then Halo too

I agree with your last point. I mentioned that earlier on this page

The thing about those two dudes. It's almost like they cornered the market for a while. But since both of their careers have stalled, this is the perfect time for a guy like Duncan Jones (and Legendary..or Ubisoft) to make a change.

Well in the 90's comic book movies faced the same problem. Something with sci-fi movies in the 70's until Star Wars came in.

I just think that comic book movies have a weird stigma in Hollywood. It's like a weird disconnect most people don't see.. I don't now why. You'd think that it would be no brainer but apparently it's not.

I'm telling ya: Hollywood is always a few decades behind everyone else. Give it time.

I think Hollywood should focus on these VG adaptations:
1. Uncharted. This at least has a release date so it seems like it's very close)
2. Metroid. If Nintendo relaxes on the rights.
3. Last of Us. Post Apocalypse and zombies are popular right now.

Those arent even the ones I most want to see I just think they'd be the most profitable.

And then get some good talent. As I said on the last page the only decent director that directed a VGM was Mike Newell. Duncan Jones is great I hope Warcraft is good.

There's talk of that Last of Us movie, but it's being made by Screen Gems. SCREEN GEMS, the outcasts of the Sony lot. I think any movie associated with Screen Gems are the ones who got lucky that they didn't get dumped directly into the VOD market.

At least Raimi is producing. And one of the game directors is writing a draft

And it has nothing to do with Last of Us, but I do like some Screen Gems comedies

Yeah Screen Gems brought us those terrible Resident Evil movies (another fav videogame franchise of yours truly).

I don't even know how he's making another one when the last one barely made any movie. Let me guess: the home market saved it.

Well, Capcom turned those games into something similar to those movies unforutnately. :p

I certainly hope that the next one is the last one they make. Those movies are pointless.

I've always liked the Red Letter Media review of the Resident Evil movie. They really nailed how being stoic and serious doesn't mean interesting when it comes to Alice. She's dull.

Vs. Clint's Man with No Name, which is actually a very nuance and difficult performance to pull off.

I always wonder who goes to see them.

I know one kid but he watches EVERYTHING. And I think he has a thing for Milla Jokovich

It's because the Japanese market is in disarray. Be it anime or video games.

That's why many of the majority of the big time producers went off to do mobile games instead of the home consoles.

Things are getting better though. Dark Souls is a hit, and with anime, Attack on Titan is a hit too.

Capcom is one of the most stubborn companies out there, besides Square Enix.

Another video game adaptation that's stuck in Dev Hell is the Tomb Raider reboot.

With the new game, it brought new life into the series. They even got a good screenwriter on board. Is it going anywhere? Nope.

That's the other company I was thinking of. Used to be kings, now they are just jokes.

The video game market now is dominated by US and European game companies.

With Japan, the last big original IP was Dark Souls. Other than that, it's kinda stagnant over there.

Square Enix is taking forever with Final Fantasy 15. There was a time when they pumped out quality RPGs on a regular basis. Now it's like every 5-10 years they'll have something good. To be fair, Bravely Default was a surprise hit for them.

Same thing with Capcom; just relying on the same franchises again and again. It's not just a Nintendo thing.

Yeah that could be an interesting one.

I never took TR seriously. I always saw it as a joke but the new game looked good and I liked the direction they went with it.

Square Enix really messed up the Kingdom Hearts franchise. The first game is my favorite game of all time.

But they just dropped the ball on it.

Square Enix dropped the ball on the Crono series, that stupid and misleading Final Fantasy 7 remake news for the PS4, and Parasite Eve.

Back in the PS2 days, I mostly played Japanese games (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Persona, Suikoden, etc). Now Japan produces very little of interest.

Well there's also Persona. But again, they're not making as many games as the Europeans or Americans. I think it has to do with budgets, mostly, which is why the home market over there is huge.
