I thought Kya was the oldest, too. I hope Sokka's family is introduced later.

Consider the disappointment coming from Aang. His first child a non-bender then his second a Water Bender. I can totally understand Aang's attention to Tenzen not only to try to rebuild the Air Bending culture, but to also connect with someone like him. After all Aang, was the only Air Bender for what? 20+ years after thawing out?

I think "disappointment" is a little strong. I'm sure that he was thrilled when Bumi and Kya were born. I will say he was more or less "elated" when Tenzin was born cause he knew his kind wasn't dead yet.

I'm sure he loved all his kids equally it's just he favored Tenzin due to their connection as Airbenders.

You're right. It was a bit strong. I didn't want to give the impression Aang didn't like his other kids. But clearly the Air Nomads were a forgotten culture and Aang wanted someone to understand him and his way of thinking. Kya's "Cut and run" comment further proves this.

I know right? That's why I wrote a thing called Legend of Korra Matters. Cause I was so happy to have it back. It's in my signature.

Kya was originally the oldest. They did change that.

The Aang situation is interesting. On one hand you can understand Aang's urge to teach the only airbender everything he could and thus spend as much time as possible with Tenzin. But if he did so at the cost of love and affection for his other kids, that isn't the best parenting. Could be the source of the sibling rivalry.

Good to see Korra starting to understand she is letting her pride and anger get in the way. She was being petty with her father, and it is good to see she is starting to understand that.

Not really getting her nativity over her uncle though. Even if she buys most of his bull, it is clear he has started a civil war by invading the Southern Water Tribe. It is clearly all on him. That she continues to listen to him and ignore Tenzin's teachings has finally bite her in the behind.

Other thoughts,

- Not sure the kidnapping was legit. Seems pretty staged to me.
- Bending still looks good. The far and medium shots, not so much. So much detail is lost is kinda of amazing they signed off on this animation. Looks amateur at times.
- How can you not love Bolin? Perfect comic relief.
- The airbender kids continue to be the second greatest thing in history.
- Aang and Katara's kids continue to be the greatest.
- I miss Lin.
- They once again showed how shallow and arguably bad human being Mako is.
- Saw this as the perfection reaction from Asami when she returns-

It was a good episode. I get how Palpatine-like Unalaq is coming along. Unalaq keeps telling Korra what she wants to hear and strokes her ego as the Avatar all while playing keeping up his royal image of benevolence. Its clear he has a less-than-mature attitude towards Tonraq and the epilogue at the end of the episode proves it. He wants his brother out of the way for whatever reason.

I liked the bending and non-bending fights in this episode. This episode also marks the first time I've seen Korra show restraint both as a person and as a fighter like in the scuffle against the kidnappers she was kicking all sorts of butt without much bending.

I get her conflict. On one hand she has an Uncle who is telling her what she wants to hear and on the other hand she feels her parents have held her back with secrets. Now both her family and her culture are on the verge of tearing themselves apart. Its quite a compelling angle. Korra might be changed permanently from this.

Okay so I'm sitting here reading about some kidnapping and stuff and I don't understand what you guys are talking about. And so I suddenly realize that there has been a new Korra episode

Oh man. I think we kinda spoiled it for you. Sorry.

Haha, no worries man. It's my own fault. Just finished with it, Bolin was the best part of this episode :woot:

I disagree with the 2 points you've raised. Animation-wise, yes its different but it is by no means "amateur" by any stretch. The action is still clear, the characters and lines are still coherent and recognizable. Its not TMS good but its certainly not amateur.

Secondly, if this does bite Korra in the butt then it will be to the benefit of her character. Worked for many characters in shows with where there was a Master-Student argument. Luke had it with Yoda, Kenshin had it with Hiko (and that cost him big...so big)and many other examples. Not sure why everyone is so hard up on Korra "not learning anything". Tenzin's clearly the fan-favorite for a lot of the ATLA fans for obvious reasons but it does get a to a point where the bias is painfully clear.

Korra's parents were just arrested. Punishable by death for something they didn't do. Her homeland has been invaded. The few people that could truly help her are an ocean away. Yep, bitten and she knows it. The shadow of doubt has already crept into her mind.

And I am not liking the animation during a lot of the group shots and dialogue scenes that frame the shots wide. Just not working. A lot of lost detail. I am kinda of shocked. My brother mentioned it and I told him they changed studios and it finally clicked for him. I honestly don't remember ever feeling this way while watching the first season the many times I have seen it.

I always felt that lok was kinda inferior to tlab in terms of art and animation. If there was any frame rate issues in tlab, then it seems that lok made it slower. Also, I noticed some of the drawings for the actions scenes are a bit weird.

Plus, it's animated by the same guys that did bleach and naruto (currently)..... Not hard to see the downgrade.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but apparently the soundtrack for Book 1 has been released.

The animation looks fine to me, and the action scenes are as good as ever. Korra ALREADY has doubts, the look on her face at the end of the episode says it all, she's thinking "what the heck are you talking about Uncle?"

Studio Pierrot is making Book 2? Damn it, why did they change the studio, Book 1 had some amazing fights.

That's what every naruto and bleach fans would want people to think :P But in all seriousness, I've noticed that the art is off and the animation is slower.

Apparently, there has been some communication issues. I heard that they're gonna come back in the second half, though.

Did they mention a death penalty? Sure in the old days, treason was punished by death but seeing as its never occurred in TLA (Long Feng, Iroh, Mai...etc etc) I think that's still up in the air.

I get the feeling Unalaq doesn't see this as "invasion". He actually looks offended when Korra implies it to him stating that he IS their Chieftain. I'm not sure how the hierachy works in the Water Tribes but maybe it a pseudo-feudal thing where the Southern Tribes lived with so much autonomy that the presence of a ruling family that is pretty distant feels like a invasion whereas Unalaq just sees it as the Northern tribe reasserting their presence for the benefit of bringing the 2 Tribes together. They are essentially the same people but the North maintained their traditions while the South moved more towards a more open society.

You are right, they didn't mention the death penalty. I thought that was what Unalaq said he wanted for those that "attacked" him. He just wants them to freeze in jail...

The problem with this whole situation is that Unalaq is clearly lying and doing "evil: things imo. He is buttering up Korra and using her father's "lies" to play on her insecurities and doing so that she does what he wants. He has isolated her from her family, mentor and friends. In the premiere he mentions the Northern Lights, and how they exist because the portal in the North is open. Now he wants Korra to open a portal in the North? Why?

You can justify anything. Hilter "justified" the Holocaust and well just look at North Korea. Unalaq has led an army south and is oppressing the people there. It is not so long ago that the south saw this from another nation.
