Korra Alone and Battle For Zaofu are my two favorite episodes of Book 4 so far.
Bolin did the thing.
Neat episode. Loved the Varrick/Bolin team up. I do hope we can find out more on why Bataar Jr is such a jerk.
God damn, I love Varrick. He's one of my favorite characters and I love that they're pairing him up with Bolin for the season, nice call back to when he first appeared in book 2. And the final battle between Korra and Kuvira is going to f***ing epic. I'm predicting a meeting between Korra and Zaheer. They kept him alive for a reason and facing him again is the best way I can think of for her reconciling her PTSD.
*ouch*
The fight between Kuvira and Korra was painful to watch. But, hopefully it will make Korra's eventual success all the sweeter.
It did seem to be poor planning by Korra that she didn't take any water with her into battle. Korra's first and foremost bending skill is water bending. To go into any battle without easy access to that element seemed odd. And Korra even seemed to be sweating up a storm, but didn't utilise any of her sweat for water bending either.
I was also a little surprised that Korra didn't use air bending to a greater degree. It's likely that Kuvira has trained against fire and water benders since there are still plenty of them around. But air bending would be pretty much an unknown for Kuvira since there were only four air benders up until three years ago and even now, they're pretty limited and probably not travelling around offering to spar against opponents. Also, where fire and water seem like opposites, air bending seems like a natural opposite to earth bending.
I think Kuvira is an incredible villain. Part of the reason why she can be compared to so many others is because she is the ultimate Avatar villain. She's Ozai's imperialism and Amon's equalism and Unalaqq's uniter and Zaheer's freedom bringer, and most importantly she's a young woman like Korra. It'd be like Aang fighting and evil Spiritbending kid in his Book 4. What gives Kuvira away as a villain is that her esteemed virtue seems to change based on what the problem is. First it's about self determination, then it's about equality. She just wants to help, until people resist, then they're in the way of change.
Much more a firebender than water bender?? She's a NATURAL water bender. That's like saying Aang was always more of an earth bender than an air bender. Not the way it works, she uses fire bending a lot but in that Kuvira fight, I dont know. It was weird. It seemed like she just kept using air bending almost exclusively and earth bending for defense. She did throw some fire but not much that I remember. She was tossing wind at Kuvira like crazy though. I do remember thinking that was weird while I was watching the episode at least.
Speaking of Book 2, it's weird how Korra got these psychological problems from just the events in Book 3, but not from the almost apocalyptic stuff in the 2nd book. The end will probably need to be a battle of ideals, because if Korra went full power, Kuvira would most likely be smashed.
