Avengers Assemble - New Animated Series

It's Disney XD...of course it was going to be bad. They make some of the worse shows on TV at the moment.

I don't understand how its such a reversal between Film and Animation

Marvel's film department is firing on all cylinders while DC stands around scratchin their balls
Meanwhile, in animation land, DC rules all while Marvel is completely clueless.

I had hoped we wouldve gotten more Marvel animated features on the level of Hulk vs. Wolverine, at least, but that was made before Loeb took over. So, no such luck I guess...

Yeah, you would have thought we were in for a golden age of Marvel animation the minute Disney purchased the company. I just don't get it, the division is being run into the ground. Is it possible Disney is still a bit hesitant to step on Marvel's toes? I remember all the fan worry back in '09 about Marvel becoming "Disneyfied", but that seems to have been put to rest by the MCU success. Disney have said from the beginning that they'll get out of Marvel's way on creative matters, so maybe it's time they intervened here and put their foot down. Unless of course USM and AA is them intervening.... But I really doubt that's the case. I have a hard time believing they went to Marvel with the USM proposal in hand. Pathetic really.

I really don't think it's so much a Disney thing
We'll see how Disney and Marvel work together on the Big Hero 6 movie
but it's Marvel's own animation department that seems to just be droppin the ball left and right lately

like i said, Hulk vs. was good, really nice animation, good scripts (unless your the type who's ********* about Thor getting beat) and solid voice work
then Planet Hulk comes out, and the animation quality dropped significantly
its just weird

I saw the first episode. It looks average ( like many American superhero animated shows I watched ). At first glance I have no issue with this new show compared to A:EMH but time will tell.
It has a motion comic style which is original, I think.

I actually thought this was pretty decent. A lot better than I thought it would be I'll keep watching. Hell I didnt like EMH completely at first.

You answered your own question, Jeph Loeb.

Watched the first episode on iTunes. It'll be the only episode I watch. That was pretty terrible.

Jeez, the camera keeps moving inward constantly and it keeps switching to widescreen.

I guess it's suppose to be kool.

The widescreen doesn't bother me. The 2003 Turtles cartoon did that too.

DC gets video games too unless Marvel can make something happen once Deadpool gets released and they start popping out good Marvel games. But yes, a fool would say Marvel isn't the clear winner when it comes to movies. DC's a winner when it only comes to Batman, which is sad, because I always believed DC had stronger characters than Marvel.

Just watched the first episode and I have to agree with those complaining about the writing. It's really terrible and there was really no effort made to make things make sense, things just seemed to happen and peoples behaviors were all over the place.

The animation was ok imo though I think that some of the character designs were a bit off. The voice acting wasn't nearly as good as on EMH.

Caught the first-ep "preview" on iTunes. My verdict is "eh, I'll watch a little while longer." It has the potential to be fun, if no where near on "EMH"'s level. The dialogue is lazy, and I was rather confused as to Falcon's roll. So, he's a SHIELD trainee, who doesn't have a suit or powers or anything until he basically picks one during the episode, yet Stark's been grooming him to be an Avenger?

My other quibble is the animation seems choppy in many places. Much as I treasure my memories of watching the old X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons in the early 90s, I did appreciate the strides made in animation since then. Maybe I'm spoiled, because I loved how "EMH" looked, but this just seems like a step backward.

That said, the action sequences are reasonably fun, and I'm enough of an Avengers fanboy to give it a slightly longer probationary period. I'm still not sold on it being a worthwhile replacement, though.

well, I watched both eps and it's STILL a major disappointment... instead of going forward with the animation, design and feel of it all, along with the characterization and dialogue within the show, it's an almost twenty year step back into a bad 90's animated...

I've said it before and I'll say it again ad nauseum, that Loeb, Quesadilla and Man of Action need to be replaced with a fresh crew that is more competent and can take the Marvel animated department into a better and exciting future, NOT a trip into the same old bad past...

Maybe it was because they showed it without commercials, but the show felt so relentless. It never took time to breathe. Constant music, constant moving to the next thing, almost like they were afraid to lose the kids' attention.

Am I missing something about the animation? Some of you guys make it sound like it was complete crap.

The only issue I have with it are the way they use still frames, that makes it sometimes look really cheap, the disconnected feel between characters and backgrounds, and obvious digital effects for things like smoke or explosions. Makes it all seem like they tried to safe money any way the could.

Jeph Loab and co are a novice when it comes to animation so I expected as much for the show to be the way it is, an 80's cartoon series set in the modern era.

This is what I feel Marvel should be geared towards in general with Animation, Movies and Video Game and that is to the syfy crowed and the last time I checked millions of syfy fans exist, this are the same people who love Marvel and DC Comics, the same with star wars, star trek, harry porter and transformers. Billion dollar industry of today thanks to the syfy crowed.

Comic book shows always attract teens, young adults and adults and its time for companies to realize that like Nick is with shows like legend of korra. They can make money from that crowed with there animated features cause to me, Animations is a different type of medium that can be used to explore a certain interest from another perspective, just like the billion dollar industry known as video games.

Back in the day who ever thought that video games would turn into the way it is today. It was for kids wasn't it, but look at it now, times have changed and it's time for Marvel's Animation to get with the program.

I am not saying this show is s**t or bad and what not even though the animation is a big of a let down cause it's not as good as Ultimate Spider-man, it looks very incomplete and that's strange and if you consider the animation great and awesome then you must be smoking something serious lol.

So I have decided not to continue this show because I feel it's not worth my time, I will catch up later it's not my priority I don't need it. I will be back to watch Marvel cartoons when they finally know their true audience and never ignore them again just to make a bug, which I believe without a shadow of a doubt they can make more money with kids and Teens and Young adults and adults to make up the family demographic.

Have not finished the first episode and the character animation is lacking. Hulk character is anything but incredible. EMH artwork was superior. Just because Roffa hulk was made to look inferior to his predecessor (Norton Hulk) didnt think the cartoon would follow suite. The artists today should be looking at Sal Buscema's version ofhe hulk and bringing that to life.
The artwork does matter!

I think the art/animation is fine. I actually like this a good amount. I just think that HAwkeye and Falcon need a little tweaking

I just watched both episodes. I'll give it a few more weeks, but I really didn't care for it. Granted, I probably would have been ok with it back in the 90s, but the animation and the writing just doesn't hold up for me in 2013...especially coming on the heels of the phenomenal Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Full disclosure: The Avengers was the first comic book that I latched onto as a kid. So, after the disappointing Avengers: United They Stand, I couldn't have been more happy with A:EMH. That was The Avengers that I knew and loved as a kid, with enough contemporary elements added to make it seem fresh and new. A:EMH became one of my all-time favorite animated series, and when it was cancelled, I was of course extremely disappointed. I get the desire to have production completely under the Marvel Studios/Disney umbrella. I understand wanting it to be more in line with one of the most successful movies in history. But, I didn't have to like it. And after watching the results...I'm even more discouraged.

I hope the show proves me wrong long-term, but for now..."meh" is being generous.

I will admit that I also liked Captain America's voice actor more in this than in EMH

I think the voice actors are actually doing a fine job so far. The only one I don't like too much, is Ironman. And I had some real issue with Thor, when he spoke his first line in the Quinjet. After that though, he was actually ok.

Oh gee, what a surprise...the same Man of Action team behind the mediocre Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon have now given us a mediocre Avengers cartoon. Granted, Avengers Assemble not as annoying as Ultimate Spider-Man, but at least Ultimate Spider-Man, for all it's numerous flaws, at least has an energetic and fluid animation style. Here, it just felt so stiff and generic, and I think they even reused the same animation over a different background. And only decent voice actor was Fred Tatasciore once again doing the Hulk. On the bright side, just as Ultimate Spider-Man has given me a greater appreciation Spectacular Spider-Man, this cartoon has given me a greater appreciation for Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Here's my take:

Negatives:

Thor looks too young and skinny.

Hulk looks too human.

Way too much Hawkeye.

The pace was really frantic. I hope this was just a way of hooking newer viewers and not how the plotting will be every week.

Positives:

The battles were loud and brutal. The show doesn't appear to be in the same campy spirit of Ultimate Spider-man.

Hulk and Thor are frenemies, and Thor is shown as at least being able to stand up to Hulk without getting instantly obliterated.

Cap, Falcon, Iron Man, and Black Widow are very well designed.

It appears that we'll get long arcs, not just self-contained episodes.
