Infinity War Avengers: Infinity War SPOILER User Review Thread - Part 2

I don't see Thanos retiring to a farm as an ending, nor do I think the movie really means it to be. The movie ends purposely on a moment of shock to keep you engaged for a year until new and shiny Avengers 4 completes the story. You may see it as an ending, but I see it being closer to a mid point in a book.
I'll go further; it's a Comic Book, done right.

Everyone has talked in terms of sequels, trilogies, and two-parters, when what Feige & Company have given us is an actual, honest-to-god comic book universe, where not everything is tied up in every issue.

Every installment has had some unresolved elements, even if it's only in the post-credits. This is just a bigger one, like we used to get with issues just before milestones; "Don't miss the pulse-pounding conclusion!".

I agree with this

Infinity War is an entertaining film but suffers from no real stakes or real deaths. Not yet anyway. I hope that the next film makes Infinity War pay off because Marvel has fooled me too many times with fake deaths in the films that the many deaths just didn't feel real plus they already announced sequels to the heroes they supposedly killed in Infinity War anyway.
Just hope that the people Marvel decide to keep dead really make Thanos arrival worthy.
Thanos was way better then I thought he would be. Impressed me alot. I walked in wanting him to kick ass and kill lots and he did so in the first few minutes. The villian I waited 10 years to arrive actually delivered.

It's not the movies fault people bring meta knowledge to the table. Yes, sure, I was thinking about sequels when I left the theater but in the moment (which is all I care about) I was gripped and on the edge of my seat.

It's the same problem I have with Superman's death in BvS. Why should I care when I know he'll be back in the sequel. It's why I've mostly checked out on mainstream comics. Stories need an ending to have meaning, and that's impossible when everything get reshuffled and undone every few years.

Just because you expect the heroes to comeback and right the wrongs and win doesn't make the ending a cliffhanger.

Forget that it was marvel and that we love the characters. If it was different characters in a different universe and they didn't make a sequel it would have been complete just a tragedy. The only thing against that is doctor strange looking into the future and saying this was the only way to win. So yes there may be more to come.

The best cliffhanger (litterally) was the original italian job. Doesn't mean that a sequel was ever intended.

Dont get me wrong its was a very entertaining film and I loved the heroes and Thanos and was engaged in the story and I knew that lots would die but when Spiderman and Black panther perished I was like oh come on they just announced solo sequels to these two wtf.

It's impossible to watch these movies as a fan and not bring in meta-knowledge, but even acknowledging that: we already all know that the ending is going to be reversed regardless of who actually bites the bullet. We all know that half the life in the universe disappearing is going to be reversed by our heroes. As such, it doesn't really matter who dies and whose sequels are already announced. We all know it'll be undone soon enough, so you might as well go for the gut-punch and take away two of the most beloved superheroes of all time.

That said, what made that moment work for me wasn't the death of important characters we all know are returning. It was the impact these deaths had on all of our remaining heroes. We all know they're coming back, but Tony, Cap, and the rest do not. Cap's moment of saying "oh god" along with Peter hanging on to Tony are probably the two single most heart-wrenching moments in any superhero movie to date.

Cap's reaction (and most of the heroes excluding Stark) felt very subdued, almost nonchalant. Felt like the could've punched up the grief a little more.

Dunno. Personally, I thought they played the sheer shock and agony of the moment really well. There maybe more grief and mourning once they had more time to deal with it but the movie only shows the immediate aftermath of the snap and I think every single characters' reaction made sense given their respective arcs so far in the MCU.

My IMAX Black Panther showing back in February had a malfunction and they gave us a free ticket for any other movie. I think I'm going to see Infinity War for the third time. For free.

Avengers:Infinity War. My SPOILER filled review.

Off the top.....
I liked it....
Loved it? Mmmm dunno yet...I may have to go for seconds, although the first go around is still stuck in my ribs and I'm still digesting this whale of a tale.
This was bitter sweet in the full sense of the term for me.
The bitter is that this is the end for so many heroes we have grown to dig and to
some we didn't get a full chance to fully dig. The sweet is the real fact
that Marvel (although had some strike outs in my book)
overall won in this comic book universe building movie odyssey and they deserve a well
earned thank you, standing round of applause from all quarters and a pat on the back for their Herculean efforts.
Now am I saying was this a perfect superhero film I always wanted to see from Marvel?
NOPE.
I will say that this film was probably the right thing to say (at least for me) as a great film for their 10 year mark.
Some may say this is in their top 5 Superhero films of all time.
I'm not there.

Although this movie had all the typical trappings of a Superhero movie extravaganza.
It really wasn't that for me. It was actually deeper than all that stuff.
All the new costumes and intense CGI characters bombastically colliding together
this go around really was merely sprinkles thrown aggressively (yet purposely) on a well baked purple cake.

Let me explain from my perspective. This movie goes deep. This movie is not about the sprinkles. Well baked cakes never are.

This movie actually wasn't about the "Super Heroes". This wasn't really actually a Superhero movie...AT ALL.
When it comes down to it there was only one hero in the whole film. Drum roll please..... Dr.Strange.
He save what he could. Heroes can't save everyone as we have seen.
But this was ultimately a Marvel movie about Thanos and their build up to the ultimate evil in their universe.
Their idea of Satan incarnate.????
I specifically went to Satan of the Bible because the nature of what Thanos idealizes himself to be
by the very actions that Thanos himself articulated and actions he took.
The opening scene that we see of Thanos he makes an odd declaration that caught my attention and had me raise an eyebrow.
He speaking to Loki a false god and he has another false god forcefully kneeling beside him Thor.
Thanos says...."Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same and now 'IT'S' here...or should I say...I AM."
Now in The Bible GOD referred to HIMSELF as I AM to Moses when he asked his name Exodus 3:14 also in John 8:58
and in various other passages.
Knowing that and this being the very idea(desire) and thing said that got Satan kicked out of God's Kingdom according to the Bible...
"For thou (Lucifer AKA Satan) hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will
ascend above the heights of the clouds; I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH." Isaiah 14:13-14

Loki: [ to Thanos as he is dying] You will never be a god.

Another thing that made me raise an eyebrow was when Thanos said to Gamora (that may be another identity marker that links him to the biblical Satan)
He said...'I' NEVER TAUGHT YOU to LIE that's why you are so bad at it." You know who is good at telling lies? The FATHER of lies.John 8:44.
Another thing that points to him being the parallel evil is his sacrifice of Gamora for the Soul Gem.
The symbolism is that he gave up his last little bit of his very own soul with the sacrifice of Gamora for a false soul of power.
After this sacrifice he awakens in a pool of water like a baptism, then the complete Thanos truly begins from this point.
The Black Order themselves are like fallen angles as well being Thanos heralds always proclaiming his arrival and greatness and our
necessity to bow before him. All the things Satan desires and often gets. That said about Thanos....
He was a well thought out and well performed character in this movie. He was the "star" of this movie.
As much as I love my homey Damion Poitier (The first EVER and actually only LIVE action Thanos truly) I have to say....Josh Brolin CAME WITH IIIIIT!
Sorry D. ????
Anyway as for the rest of the film I can nit pick till the cows come home but I won't in this...I will discuss my minor gripes with
anyone in the responses. I'm sure I may have more after another viewing.
I will reveal my over all theory though here of this event....

The ones who didn't disappear into ash are the ones who actually died.
This was like an odd reverse rapture type deal they are doing IMHO.
So ....Steve,Tony,Rhodey,Gamora,Nebula,Rocket,Okoye,Thor,maybe Loki,Vision Banner and Natasha all dead.
Also there was another nice clue that phase 4 may have a different history ahead for the MCU all together by what Dr.Strangle allowed to happen and there was a little easter egg that may have hinted to it.
When Thanos tried to crush Strange with some rubble
Strange threw it back at him as some butterflies possible hinting at the" butterfly effect" that is to happen in the MCU.

Something to speculate about.....or not. ????
We can quibble about the filming quality and lapse in logic it
our talk back.
Thanks for reading.

Can't give this movie a number or grade yet.
Anyway...Like I said.
I liked it.????????

Oh yea! Wonder why they made Thanos an intergalactic environmentalist worried about overpopulation? I thought that's what the good guys were suppose to be. ????????Hmmmm.????

D.????

I know they account for Hawkeye and Ant-Man in the dialogue but I still find it strange that Jeremy Renner did not appear on screen.

Has this been discussed by the filmmakers or Renner himself? Were his scenes cut, was Renner unavailable or was Hawkeye just never intended to be in the movie?

Oh yeah. Loki squirming while Thanos chokes the life out of him was effin brutal.

So many subverted expectations. It was only a couple of years ago that Fiege said the MCU were always going to be family films and would never take any dark turn no matter what some trailers suggested. Well he certainly changed his mind! This is about as dark as a family friendly disney movie could get.

Feige nevee said that. I hate how the internet tAkes everything at face value. The quote came from some rand guy who ALLEGEDLY attended a q&a in some city and heard him saying that. Zero proof. Feige never said that in any interview.

1. Write extremely long rant.
2. Add a hundred question marks.
3.????
4. Profit.????

The movie only takes place over a few days and what sense does it make wasting time trying to convince Clint to come when they had more pressing matters.

I think they said they didn’t know how to incorporate him without taking away from the main story. He’s ostensibly living in house arrest somewhere with his family.

On the commentary track all of the writers and directors agree with you. They say that this movie was Thanos' "Hero's Journey" and it has a complete ending.

They also say that ending on the snap would have been the real cliffhanger.

So you are right on all counts buddy!

:) Thanks for sharing. What were the highlights of the commentary track for you by the way? Also, how or where can I get a digital purchase of that entire blu-ray set? Could not find it in Google Play Movies.

I think Thanos will be a necessary evil/good character to face the other grand villain Galactus

I doubt Thor, Scarlet Witch, or Quill would tolerate Thanos being allowed to continue breathing, let alone doing anything.

This has all been covered but these were my highlights from the commentary:

  • They explain why Gamora and others give up information even after they were willing to sacrifice themselves. Its because its easy for everyone to imagine themselves jumping on the grenade, but could you throw one of your loved ones on the grenade instead?
  • This movie is Thanos' Hero's Journey and is told completely from his point of view
  • The second act ends with his sacrifice
  • Kenneth Branagh cameo
[*]Where Dr. Strange hides the Time Stone
  • Thanos' scarecrow
  • Thanos did not use the stone to defeat Hulk
  • Hulk was not afraid of Thanos
  • They wanted you to think Thor was going to save the day all along
  • They've been waiting for years to figure out how to bring Red Skull back
  • Several Asgardians escaped including Valkyrie
  • They almost went with a "no-**** Sherlock" joke but it would be too meta
  • They had a Xandar battle in the script but cut it
  • They had a scene that explained the burner phone
  • Tony knows about Vision and Wanda
  • Dr. Strange has learned a lot since his movie
  • At one point Captain America's first entrance in the film was when he saves Vision during the end battle (2 hours into the movie)
  • Cap is wearing the same outfit from CW
  • Killing Maw was the same joke as Indiana Jones and the swordsman
  • Thanos uses the soul stone to find the real Dr. Strange
  • Dr. Strange uses the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak
  • When Thanos is in the Soul Stone at the end they gave the impression that this is important for the next movie
  • Loki says "you will never be a god" at the beginning and Cap says "Oh God" at the end

Where does he hide it?

But im more interesting in the looks of Thanos when he is looking at Dr Strange right before putting the time gem into the gauntlet, like something :he's wondering if there a spell or something into the gem
This is a clear attention to detail from directors point of view...so it will be sure address into the next one
