The Avengers Avengers Trailer Discussion - Part 1

"From technology to mythology...
From science to legend..."

From the Captain America "Assembly Begins" footage.

I like it! I'd post a link but unfortunately due to "website rivalries" I can't..but I'm sure you can guess where you can find it. ;)

RIM posted a link already.

Stark does not know the location and Loki informs him that he does not understand the implications of the stone when it is not in his possession. At this time (and remember Tony is in the penthouse suite), they see the Skrulls attack. Cap goes to apologize to Tony at his suite and gets thrown out of the window by Loki.
- 1:29 cap is launched from a lower level window.
- Supported by any number of daytime shots where there are people shooting upwards or looking upwards and energy shots being fired.

Loki tosses Stark, not Cap. I thought that too originally, but pictures were posted showing otherwise.

Loki does toss Stark but at the same time Cap is shot out of a window of the same building (you can cross referance the structure of the one hes thrown out of with Stark Tower in other shots. The architecture is the same).

I feel that Loki throws Stark and then goes downstairs and runs into Cap. Cap prepares to fight him and then is merely cast aside (or out a window rather :D lol)

Can somebody edit the trailer with some more epic music? I mean listen to TDKR trailer, The Amazing Spider-Man trailer, The John Carter trailer... they all have great music... but the most anticipated one of all gets generic sounding rock music?

Nine Inch Nails is hardly generic. :o

The same reason most stories have need of them: you don't go full-backstory with everyone. Of course, in a movie like Avengers where each and every character does have a backstory, where the whole point is team-work, it's different. But think about Coulson. He's been a flat-character in every movie if you look at them independently, but on the whole, he's a real success. From the X-films, yes I'd have preferred Cyclops to get more of a backstory, even Storm, but for someone like Lady Deathstrike? I think her character, being so "one-dimensional" worked as a very sad foil to Logan. Things like that work well, and yes, are sometimes required.

I'm perfectly fine with a character not having a backstory. It's there actions that define their worth. I like Coulson because he has helped bring the team together without hogging any spotlight. I hate the Howling Commandos from TFA because there was no reason given why Cap would want to work with them over any other group of soldiers and they did nothing on screen that set them apart from any other group of soldiers. Plus, they took away screen time that could have been used for something more beneficial for Cap's character. Like his training.

Cyclops, Storm, and Sabretooth were treated as afterthoughts. Those reasons alone are enough for me to not care for Singer's vision for the X-Men.

Isn't the fact they decided to go for a "generic" rock track rather than some cliched epic music a good thing? It's used in so many trailers now it doesn't have the same effect anymore.

It can't be all bad, I didn't see any of those film's trailers breaking records.

Someone needs to edit the trailer with the Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes theme song.

Listen to John Carter's trailer, I'd hardly call that cliche. I'm not talking about the kind of music they put in Battle LA or Transformer's trailers, just something that gives it a uniquely epic feel.

One thing I noticed in the trailer was a lack of togetherness. Every hero seemed to be by themselves.

Well... Loki DID say "It would be every man for himself...." I think that's the point of the Movie. It's a bunch of people who have no business being together yet they are FORCED to come together for the sake of the Earth

Well yeah, but the only time you see them forced together is in the helicarrier. We haven't seen them all together in costume yet.

Tony and steve have plenty of confrontations in the wonderful animated series. Most of which are about who should lead, and tony needed prowess outside of just his suit.
It's a great show btw.

That would be...interesting.

EDIT:
Someone apparently did it.

I wouldn't be surprised if these were the taglines added to that Avengers Feature on the TFA for when Antman, Wasp, Black Panther, and Dr. Strange are added:

1. From Magic

2. To Mysterious

3. From Big

4. To Small

lol

I hope we get a "names trailer" the next time around.

The John Carter trailer used music to attempt to give it an epic feel, but in my opinion it failed to deliver. Frankly, the trailer looked boring and the music was too slow and ponderous, reinforcing the impression that the movie isn't exciting or interesting. They didn't have to go with rock, but a piece that built some sense of drama and action would have been better. But the most exciting music in the world wouldn't be any help in a trailer that doesn't have dynamic visuals and its own sense of excitement to go along with it. I was interested in John Carter because I loved the Burroughs book, but that dreary trailer is a tremendous buzz-kill.

The Watchmen trailers had rock music and they were some of the most memorable trailers ever.

The thing is, most of the Marvel Studios trailers are pretty mediocre. This is one of the better ones.

At THIS point I think if people were polled and had to answer the question of: If they could only watch one comic book film next year which would it be...

The marvel studio's hype machine is currently leading. Sorry but bane and hathaway just aren't ledger. And spiderman simply looks like spiderman.

I'm not speaking for myself however.

Disney is doing an incredible job of capitalizing on the public's awareness of The Avengers and building up the hype. Their marketing department has made some masterful choices that have served to set The Avengers apart from all of the other movies coming out in 2012 and make it stand out in the public consciousness.

The much-derided decision not to have an Avengers panel at SDCC turns out to have been a very shrewd decision. At this point, SDCC is overrun with presentations for everything from TV shows to rom-coms, which dilutes the impact that even the biggest scifi blockbuster can have. By holding off until the NYCC, Marvel created demand and anticipation for their presentation and capitalized on the fact that their movie would be the major event and centerpiece of the convention. There were other panels, of course, but The Avengers was the one must-see. They had the attention of both the fans and the media and dominated the entertainment news cycle.

Releasing the first trailer online, well before it would normally be expected, also stoked the public's enthusiasm for the film. Ten million hits attest to the fact that it's not just hardcore comics fans who are interested.

There are surely more events planned to push the hype up to the next level. I have a hunch that Marvel won't necessarily wait for the inevitable Super Bowl ad to roll out the next stage of their campaign. They will have a major trailer rollout then, of course, but so will every other movie. Perhaps they will put another, longer trailer online and in theaters in order to trump the other 2012 entries. Knowing that the superhero marketplace is crowded, they'll want to press any advantage they have gained in the publicity wars.
