Avengers vs. X-Men: 2012 Event - Part 1

He really is, though. I mean, that's a good 40% of his whole schtick. He's literally as acrobatic as a human being can possibly be, and he works to hone that acrobatic potential to practical perfection every day. Anytime you see Cap in Avengers Mansion, he's training his ass off in these weird jungle gyms that would break a normal person's back.

By definition, he is.

If gambit had human agility, sure. But he most certainly possess superhuman agility.

Anyway, I knew Cap was going to win the fight. I don't want it to seem like I'm picking on your comments, so I'll leave it alone.

Gambit's is in the superhuman catagory. So Cap can train all he wants but he can't take himself beyond physical peak. Gambit's agility is apparently an ability in addition to the charging. That's been well established through the years.

Yeah, he does have super human agility.....Cap could still kick his ass though......and he did.

3rd panel.

Is Cap actually trying to be in character there?

That's essentially what Cap said in the first issue of Avengers vs. X-Men, right before everyone started calling him a fascist for being prepared to defend against Cyclops' escalation to outright hostility, which is what literally everyone acquainted with Cyclops told Cap was going to happen anyway.

as per his official entry in the Marvel Handbook:

Gambit's ability to tap energy also grants him superhuman agility and dexterity, as well as creating a static interference that shields his mind from detection and intrusion by even the most powerful telepaths.

Well, that's f***ing random. But okay, that does change things. I still think Cap wins, but it definitely should've been closer than it was portrayed. I can see why Gambit fans are a bit incensed. I thought Gambit was just a normal dude going into a fight with Cap with nothing but his energy charging and his sexy accent working in his favor.

Gambit does have super human agility, but, he's no Spider-Man or anything. Just like strength, all those other enhanced attributes vary in degrees. He's faster than Cap, sure, but not the fastest Cap has taken down. Guy used to kick the combined assess of the rest of the old kooky quartet in the play room.....you really think Gambit is harder to take down than effin' Quicksilver? I think not.

Cap has handled plenty of super villains and even superheroes...I think he should be able to take down Gambit as well. If he can't even defeat Gambit, I don't see how he is able to square off against Cyclops and Wolverine and still win.

Well, he already squared off against Wolverine and barely survived, which I thought was pretty terrible.

They fought in the first few issues of the Origin series and it was pretty similar. There was more emphasis on Wolverine being craftier, going for arteries and nerves to immobilize Cap.

Which is stupid. If you've got a pretty much unkillable enemy, you stop holding back. It seems like Cap should know that and not balk at it because Wolverine's gonna survive anyway. But Cap was still fighting like Wolverine was just some random schmoe.

Should've gotten Thor to stop by and melt Wolverine. Again. :o

When was the last time he melted him? I remember him frying Daken in SIEGE...

Alternate realities. You don't generally recover from a melting, after all. Although it was technically in continuity when he did it in the King Thor Saga, but that was all later wiped out by time travel shenanigans.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that even though Bendis will be taking over the X-books in the post-AvX Marvel Universe, Jason Aaron may end up staying on Wolverine & the X-Men. Marvel is also apparently planning on re-launching Iron Man with Kieron Gillen and Greg Land.

Yaaa-ooh, wait. I got excited when I saw Gillen's name because I thought I'd be reading Iron Man's comic again for the first time in a few years, but then I got to the second name there. Ambivalence.

Anyway, I'm glad that it's looking more and more like Bendis is taking over the X-Men franchise. Can't wait to keep right on not reading most of those comics.

Unfortunately for me, Bendis taking over the X-books means I'll be dropping them all.

But hey, at least I'll get the Avengers back.

And just like that, I'm done reading the X-Men comics. Looks like it's just the Fantastic franchise for me.

Does this mean he's keeping his greasy mitts off of the cosmic books?

Give him a few years. Marvel will decide that their cosmic line needs a sales boost, and Bendis will move on to ruin another set of comics.

I know, right?

This is great news for me. If Gillen leaves Uncanny in favor of Bendis, it's the perfect opportunity for me to drop it. It's good to hear that Aaron is probably staying on WATXM. I'm sure Remender doesn't have much longer on Uncanny X-Force so I'll be down to 1 X-title soon enough.
