If you ignored Children's Crusade, as I did, Wolverine hasn't really ever tried to kill kids that I can recall.

I'm telling you guys, just follow Remender and Aaron's work on wolvie, and he's actually a decent guy.

Events and anything written by Bendis do not factor into my thoughts about a character.
Otherwise I would Hate Captain America
He tried to kill Rachel when she was Hope's age

yeah but that was to prevent her from killing Selene and becoming like her mom....but then again as efficient as Wolverine is at killing I don't think he tried to kill her...if he wanted to kill her she'd be dead

She was still a kid and he tried to kill her. The reasons dont matter as he always has his reasons for what he does. She told him that the only way to stop her was to kill her and he then proceeded to stab her through the heart and lungs with his claws. He didnt seem to show much remorse for stabbing her when Kitty blasted him. She should have been dead from that attack and would have been if not for the PF amping up her powers to protect her. Wolverine had absolutely no problem with this bc he felt its what he needed to do at the time. Its really not much different with how he's approached Hope earlier in this story

Wolverine: attempting to kill his own allies to stop them from killing their mutual enemies so Wolverine himself can kill their enemies since the 1980's.

And it's why he's sucked more and more for the past couple decades.

i prefer the old failed samurai wolverine

I prefer him before he failed at being a samurai and just gave up on it altogether.

So does anybody think that no writer (other than the recent work of Aaron and Remender) has really ever done a good job since Claremont? Is it pretty much that Claremont did such a great job writing Wolverine in the 70's-80's that no one has been able to hold a candle to it since?

Claremont understood that Wolverine in limited doses is fine. That the X-men all have their roles to play and Wolverine's wasn't to lead. He wasn't an unkillable stabbing machine...yes he was the violent killer on the team but he wouldn't allow the others to become like him. He wasn't an unbeatable bat-god for Marvel...under his pen Wolverine never beat Sabretooth.

Most of what I've read with Wolverine is from Larry Hama and Barry Windsor-Smith.

Funny enough Whedon was the first writer in years that got how Wolverine worked. He even remembered that Wolverine took time to heal and couldn't insta heal from being burned to his skeliton.

Yeah, but it still only took him a couple of hours to recover from getting his flesh burned off. There was a time when that would've killed him, or at least put him out of commission for a few days.

I didn't say if was perfect, but it was at least something. Personally I haven't enjoyed Wolverine since Claremont wrote him. But then again, I loved the samurai training, fighting his animal tendancies Wolverine. The one that could lose, and did on many occasions.

Remember when Cyber was a very real threat to Wolverine, to the point that Wolverine tried his darndest to not fight him?

I started really getting into comics when he had bone claws, and was all worried about getting his *** kicked all the time. Wendigo destroyed him in his own comic.

I've been meaning to ask: why do you always post all of the preview images? It's not that I don't appreciate the effort, but a link would do fine.

It's just his way, and most people probably wouldn't click on the links anyway.

I always post the link because I feel like I'm stealing traffic from CBR or Newsarama or wherever if I copy and post all the images. But I don't really mind.

So this is the phase where the tide turns squarely against the Avengers, I'm guessing. It's gonna be rough reading this leg of the crossover, being a huge fan of the Avengers and pretty much sick of the X-Men. Although seeing the Avengers take on some disturbingly fascistic authoritarian traits for the first part of the crossover wasn't especially fun either.

So how has this been so far?I might get it in trade if I hear good things.

Is it as dumb of dumber than "Civil War" and "Fear Itself"?

Have either of you regularly been reading Avengers or X-Men?

I think the best way to describe Avengers vs X-Men so far is ho-hum.
