Just read avx. Well...I did not see that twist coming.

Scott and the UXM becoming possessed by the bird and turning to cosmic beings was not where I thought this was going at all.

All seems rather like a Fear Itself rehash, doesn't it?
Major destructive force giving supreme power to a group of well-known heroes and turning them into it's servants.
Just Phoenix in place of the Serpent.
Hopefully I'm totally wrong tho, and it ends up being something different

I was thinking the same thing

Yeah I was pretty excited for this story with my confidence slowly dropping with these last couple issues, but this issue was lame. I'm gonna stick it out for the next issue or so and hopefully it picks up, but this is not what i was expecting when I picked up this book.

I'm getting frigging bored here. I was waiting around for Wanda to join the fray and possibly Jean but it's clear the latter may not happen.

I thought the twist at the end was rather dumb.

This thing is being told in Acts, right? Something tells me Jean and Wanda won't get involved until the final part.

well Wanda at least was in this issue. Im having my doubts on Jean

BTW as usual UXM was better than the main story. Tan returns to the series and his art was great. Very similar to Pacheco and I wish he was a rotating artist as their styles compliment each other well. Love the story Gillen has here and how he handled the events from the current AvX issue

I had a mixed reaction to the twist at the end, but I've decided that I don't hate it. It is weird seeing this cast of characters phoenixed up, but in a way it does make sense. I do like that through this weeks Uncanny X-men and Avengers vs. X-men the phoenix force is developed a little. While we've always known that its a cosmic entity, and Grant Morrison wrote that it "burns away what doesn't work," the phoenix force was always vague. Now we know that the phoenix force is a guardian of evolution, and Unit gave us a solid example clearing up the role it has played. And we also know that the Phoenix force is here to restore mutants... making Cyclops right?

Also, using the X-men as agents of the Phoenix fits into Grant Morrison's depiction of the phoenix using multiple different hosts across time and space to fulfil its purposes, so that feel less random to me. I love Cyclops' costume... but not really any of the others.

So... if the Avengers hadn't been involved, the phoenix force would have possessed Hope, who would have been surrounded by her Lights, and she would have reversed M-Day...

If Storm/Black Panther dont get divorced after this event...I dont know what to think. Also sucks that her team was defeated in wakanda.

Except the PF uses psychics. Emma is the only telepath that was possessed. Would have made sense had Psylocke, Xavier, Legion and Rachel were up there and used instead. Colossus? Namor? Magik? Cyclops? Nah, thats what made it come across dumb to me

Yeah, i thought the same, a group of phoenix-ed up psychics like that woulda been pretty cool.
That would be pretty difficult for either the X-Men or the Avengers to contend with tho.
...but then you'd have a perfect in for some more Cosmic characters to come in and lend a hand, too. so, bonus.

The Phoenix Force doesn't always use psychics. Korvus and his grandfather channeled its power through a weapon, and Hope used its power in combination with Iceman's, Armor's, Colossus', and Cyclops' powers when she defeated Bastion.

I think Jean, Charles, and the Stepfords were just a coincidence. And Rachel only held the power because she's Jean's daughter.

Korvus didnt possess the PF. Like you said, that was in a sword. Hope is an anomoly herself and clearly something special, being first mutant born following M-Day. I still think that she herself is a living representation of the PF. Its not just Charles, Jean, Rachel and Stepfords. Quentin was also shown to be a host in HCT. These arent coincidences. Its not even just regular psychics, but extremely powerful ones that can sustain its power. When Emma had it briefly in Endsong, it was too much for her to handle. These non-psychics now having it and it not being an issue contradicts stuff thats already been established before. But oh well, thats what happens when you have so many writers penning one story. Alot of stuff is thrown out the window to make the current plot make sense

Korvus' sword wasn't psychic either. Also, Korvus was the only one who could wield the sword because he had an inherent connection to the Phoenix Force.

I'm just saying that this crossover isn't the first time the Phoenix has attached itself to a non-psychic. And that's not counting some of the What Ifs out there.

I think the choice of characters getting the Phoenix Force is what makes it a lot more odd to me. Cyclops I get and am interested in based on the storyline. He's not a psychic but Korvus having it can make me forget that. Emma to an extent I can get though she's demonstrated in the past that she can't hold it. Namor and Magik I think are dumb.

Colossus I think is interesting when you consider the fact that he's now possessing Cytorrak's power AND the Phoenix. We also know from the past but Cytorakk doesn't like his avatar's to share power (based on Fear Itself, the reason he gave the power to Colossus to challenge the Serpent-powered Juggernaut). Yet, I doubt that'll be touched on in this event.

Overall, yes, I'm disappointed with this twist but we'll see how it all plays out.

You know what I find the biggest problem with this series is? The fact that you can't root for either side. The Avengers are being a bunch of *****ebags while the X-Men are being freaking psychotic.

I'm still rooting for the Avengers, but I won't mind if a giant cosmic being came down and kicked both of their asses, so they can finally stop beating each other up and work together at last.

whoever wins we lose

With this last issue I'd say Cyclops is psychotic, not the X-Men.

I want Cyclops to come out of this victorious, with the knowledge that he saved mutant kind. He lead the X-men through hell, and he deserves to be the one to lead them to victory. But after this I want him to take a long break.

Nah, they'll tinker with it to somehow make it Wolverine's victory, because ya know, everyone just LOVES Wolverine. :whatever:

Couldn't agree more.
