Avengers vs. X-Men: 2012 Event - Part 1

Several AvX tie ins today. If I had to rank them it would be

The Avengers Protocals. LOVE Scott's plan against the team. What a d-ck move but man Im gonna love the fallout of that. I wonder what exactly that entails but its probably sure to piss off alot of people

I guess it does depend on where you start reading. While a nineties reader, I first read Emma Frost's appearances in the Dark Phoenix Saga and the like. I first met her as a villain and there was no doubt then that was what she was.

I started reading Uncanny X-Men back in the late 80's, but I had read many of the mid-80's X-Men by Claremont thanks to the comic collection that my aunt had given to us so I still see Emma Frost as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, even though she has reformed herself as an X-Men for ever a decade now. That's why I really enjoy the depictation of the White Queen in First Class, because a villaineous Emma Frost is how I perceive her even to this day.

So the Avengers have won 3 one on one battles thus far...X-men better start winning some.

Thing vs. Namor= Thing (well for now since Namor jumps out of the ocean in the last page but they still give it to Thing)

To be fair Colossus was beating the crap out of Rulk. It wasnt even a fair fight. Rulk only won bc Piotr let him win. He actually thought of the safety of everyone there and went out as a hero, whereas Rulk was a maniac and nearly got alot of them endangered or killed

It hasnt been shown yet but I think Darkchylde defeated Strange. If he had beaten her, he'd have had her incapacitated and out for the count, yet she was giving recon to Scott which I presumed she was able to do bc she emerged from that battle the winner. Cant wait to see how it went down

After reading UXM #11 today, I don't possibly seen how Scott is still going to be in power after this. He's gonna be tossed by either the Avengers, the X-Men or even both.

Why? The Avengers will naturally be pissed but I dont see most of the X-men really caring

The press release was a declaration of war against the Avengers and at the same time trying to sway public support behind them. I think that's been Bendis' purpose for all the anti-Avenger rallies outside of Avenger Mansion over the past 6 months.

I figure that by the end of this event, one of two things is going to happen:

1. This whole thing backfires in Scott's face and mutants are hated even more or....

2. The mutant populace is restored by Phoenix/Wanda (like we have speculated) and the world is pro-mutant/anti-human heroes, a complete reversal to what went on practically the entire history of Marvel prior to M-day.

I think #2 is the more likely option. Now the catch I see the writers throwing out there, is that the mutants win in the end but Scott is ironically cast out as leader for something. Perhaps the secret that Marvel just teased in the recent solicits that breaks up the renewed alliance between the Scott side/Logan side.

UXM 11 was the best issue of AvX thus far by leaps and bounds. We actually get a little bit of rationale behind the actions of the x-men and get inside hope's head a bit.

I think the declaration of the AvX war already happeend when Cap came to Utopia with an army and Scott blasted him with the teams fighting as a result of that. As far as the Protocol go, Scott is going after one of the things the Avengers value the most and its their public image. I have no idea what it exactly entails but I can see him having gathered intel on them and compiling it. Not all of them are perfect and I bet they might have some shady stuff in ther closests as well which he just leaked out which makes them look less than heroic to the public. The fallout of this could be great especially depending on how its followed up on in the Avengers titles. He created a public relations disaster that they now have to deal with. I thought it was funny bc its not even somethign I would even think that someone would do. Its a pretty original way to go after them. When I first read the term Avenger Protocol, I assumed it ws the equivalent to the Xavier Protocols, but nope, its something completely different.

IA. They've been coming across awful in the main series but I think Gillen did a great job at giving them their voice. I think he writes the best Cyclops of the last decade. He has a great handle on the character. AvX 2 made Piotr come across crazed and reckless but he came across heroic and rational here. Ditto on the handling of Hope and the emerging Phoenix in her. Is Gillen writing any of the main series? I hope so bc he is good with the X-men characters at least.

I wish Marvel did a better job at editing though. Ms.Marvel is in a space suit in AvX but in Secret Avengers she doesnt wear one in space.

When I read "avenger protocol" I envisioned some kind of crazy batman-esque prep-time influenced tower of babel type plan that would completely wipe out the avengers.

I was expecting a variation of the Xavier Protocols too but mostly because Marvel is predictable lately.

Give it some slack. We're still in phase one of the event... not TOO much could happen. It felt like a great primer for what's to come later and, as a fan of the Immortal Iron Fist series, this issue has me more excited for whats to come in future issues than anything else AvsX related so far.

But yeah, Uncanny was a pretty good issue, though I'm already bored of the misc. X-Men/Avenger battles. I need more plot.

For me it depends on not just who's writing it but if it's going to have a specific purpose. Like, I don't know....an Avengers team that deals with more street level threats.

Not really, the first arc was the Agomotto arc then it was fighting Hammer, then Fear Itself filler then recently the Osborn led Hammer/Hydra/Dark Avengers stuff.

What the hell is going on with Peter's powers as Juggernaut? Cain Marko never displayed the power this way! Is this because he's a mutant Juggernaut ?
