Comics Back in Black

Another stupid movie tie-in, just like the organic webs.

Just give him his old red and blues.

I think I may know where they are going with this Back in Black storyline for Spidey....bear with me...

At the end of The Other, Peter's old skin, now empowered with the evil spider crap or whatever, coccooned up in a church....what else happened in a church in the SPider-Man mythos? You're ou tof time, he originaly got rid of the symbiote there (the black costume), and it bonded with Brock to form Venom.

Now, supposed that this cocoon hatches, this evil Parker comes out, and dons the black suit in order to take Peter out (in the mean way, not on a date or anything).

Oh, this Nega-Parker would also have blond hair...dum dum dum (yeah, he'd be called Ben Reilly too)

I love the black costume, all right....LOVE IT....but this is stupid. Whatever the outcome, however it happens, this is just another dumb movie-inspired story.

Also, I have officially dropped all of my 616 Spidey titles and replaced them with Batman books. Detective and Batman kick ass....as much as Spidey's books seem to be sucking, as of late.

Its not going to be Ben Reilly. There's a greater chance of it being MJ and Norman Osborn's genetically super-growing lovechild (Norman's a pimp) than it is of being Ben. Queseda and the Marvel gang HATE the clone saga with a passion.

No Ben Reilly.

No Black Costume.

Stop with the cheap gimmicks Marvel and give us some REAL storytelling!!!

They'll never do it. It'll take a complete and total collapse for them to change things...just like what happened in the 90's.

What irks me is that they cosntantly change the comics to make them more accessible for the people who enjoy the movies, all the while, they are alienating the fans of the comics by using rehashed or poorly concieved storylines.

I like the black costume...it's cool looking. But please for the love of all that is sacred can we get the red and blue back. I miss the read and blue :(

What I don't get is that if they wanted to familiarize new fans with the black costume/Venom for the movie, then just reprint the original story in TPB.

Or bring Brock back as Venom, and get rid of the bloody Gargan-Venom. Why would Peter be wearing the symbiote again?? Been there, done that. That chapter of his life is well over.

As for Ben Reilly, he's dust. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust..........literally. Keep it that way please.

Amen.

Also, why the hell would Peter want to wear the black costume again?! Did he suddenly get even more stupid (hard to believe, given his latest act of idiocy), and decide that the murderous Venom symbiote which was seeking to take him over was now trustworthy and wholesome?! Argh...

Bring back Venom, have Spidey fight him, instant movie tie-in. Ta-da!!

he'd better not be wearing black to be morning the death of MJ...so help me god...
Exactly my first thought.

MJ was the one that wanted Peter to quit the black costume in the first place...

And I don't care what JQ says, this was SO about the movie.

Sounds pretty exciting to ME. im definetely stoked to see the black suit again.

What also caught my eye was McKeever's new Spider Family book...this could be a great format to check in with some of Peter's friends & foes on occasion...

Post Civil War Spidey sounds interesting, to say the least.

I'd like the idea a lot more if the artwork in Amazing wasn't so bad.

Excerpt from an interview with Axel:http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=8341

It sounds to me like the black costume is, in many ways, a metaphor for what the Marvel Universe has become following "Civil War."

AXEL: What I'll say is that it's a metaphor for how Spider-Man is feeling.

Wow. OK. A costume change is simply that, but does this have larger implications for the Marvel Universe?

AXEL: Well, I hesitate to use words like larger implications because there are catastrophic things that have happened that involve buildings toppling, and then there is stuff that reflects on character, so it depends on what you mean by that. It's no small decision for Peter to go back into the Black costume - it's reflective of his state of mind. I'm not playing my cards when I tell you that the fact it's in a post-"Civil War" setting is relevant. A lot of things will occur in "Civil War" that affect Spider-Man on a personal basis, so he has good reason to get into this costume, let's put it that way.

It does sound like BLACK = mourning"....it's reflective of his state of mind."

And/or could it be part of a plan to get his secret identity back? That HAS to happen at some point, post Civil War.

You know, I'd enjoy all this speculation and the whole story a lot more if I wasn't so worried and annoyed with JQ. All those clueless, outta left field, negative comments about the marriage... if his past decisions are any indication, he MIGHT do something as STUPID as killing MJ.

Heh....Spider-man: Family does sounds pretty good....at last, the lost members of the Spidey supporting cast re-emerge! John Jameson! Betty Brant! Robbie Robertson! Flash Thompson! Liz Allen!

Would have been cooler if they had worked them into the ongoings, and maybe even put the old Peter we used to know and love in there....:(

I've been very impressed with him since I've been reading Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane. I've been LOVING that title! And believe it or not, I thought it sounded like a stupid concept at first. McKeever has done a great job.

Thank God for Ultimate Spider-Man...

That's all I can say after reading this.

I was thinking more along the lines of Silver Sable, Prowler, Solo, and Morbius actually.....

I have to say, I've been waiting for YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAARRRRRS to have the black costume back.

So what if it ties into the film? WOOHOO! THIS is the costume Spidey wore when I was growing up, now we're going to have a whole new bunch of artists on the black costume.

I don't care how it happened, I don't care if it's films, shock tactics, or whatever. I love that look

Them as well!

I'm actually looking forward to some of the more obscure characters like Rocket Racer, Beetle, Cardiac and such. I'd love to see what happened to them over the years...

Pardon my stupid question, but what exactly is the premise with that? I saw it on the shelf at my local store but didn't get a chance to flip through it.

i still own a black suit spidey pin looks like i'll be getting to wear it soon

The title SMc will write will be "like" the one you saw on the shelves. I got it. It was cute.

In a nutshell -- A few years ago.... against MJ's advise, Spider-man trys to play matchmaker between friends Ice-Man and Firestar. There are a few battles with villains, of course.
