And what would the world say if they saw Peter Parker standing next to someone in the black suit? That sure would solve a lot of problems wouldn’t it? Or would it cause more problems than one could suspect? Or could it be the worse, cliché cheat of all time?

I bet you’re dying to know who’s in that costume aren’t you?
Well, let me put it this way, everything that’s happening right now with Spider-Man affects my Spidey story with JMS. I think I can say that this story I’m working on will be a pivotal moment in Spidey’s history.

Yeah, there's a lot of hyperbole here and Joe Q has an annoying habit of jerking everybody's chain. But if the Spider-Man in the Black Costume is an imposter, it:
1. Ties in with "the Other: Evolve or Die" in regards to the creature that was created from Spider-Man's discarded skin and the spiders forming a coocoon. Well, what if, just as Peter "regenerated" after sheding his skin after death (yeah I know, he was DEAD when he molted) the "Other," using the DNA from the skin "evolve" into another Peter Parker, who would have all the memories Peter had prior to his "death and rebirth," and is convinced HE'S really Spider-Man. (Yes, it's JMS' version of the Clone Saga with mystical overtones).
2. Ties in with a story JMS once upon a time mentioned he had planned for a future issue of Amazing where Peter Parker is the victim of identity theft. Well, if THIS Black Costumed Spider-Man is an imposter, wouldn't this be a case of identity theft?
3. It ties in with the Unmasking in a way where, because you have two different version of Spider-Man running around, each claiming to be the real one, perhaps this will be part of an effort on Marvel's part to retcon the unmasking--by having people see this Black Costumed Spider-Man running
around and conclude that either Peter was "protecting the real Spidey" or that he lied and pretended he was Spider-Man to seek publicity. Who knows? And
4. It finally ties in with the Spider-Man mini by JMS and Joe Q that is supposively going to "fix" Spidey and bring him closer to what Stan Lee and Steve Ditko envisioned. Seems to me the way to do that is to wrap up the Spider-Totems, the unmasking, and the "Back in Black" stuff all in one feel swoop. At least, that's what I'm guessing.

Captivated said:Well... I was expecting something like... Peter: "Gotcha. The power was the suit, I'm not REALLY Spider-Man."
And then the first unmasked issue of ASM has a scene with Peter, sans costume, shooting webs out of his wrists and clearly BEING Spider-Man. A crowd was there with cameras. It's happened in other titles too. So there goes that theory.
SpideyInATree said:I still agree with the theories that there is going to be a mass mindwipe and everybody forgets that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, even MJ, and that causes him to jump back into the black costume.
Though with Quesada playing his ass backwards Jedi mind tricks on everyone who knows what the hell they're going to do. I just hope they don't bring Reilly back.
