few people actually understand how important that movie was for this very reason. i applaud your bravery.

i went to see the movie with a friend of mine who had lost a boyfriend due to a hate crime. he was beaten to death for being gay. i really believe what is going on in our culture concerning homosexuality will be compared to the civil rights movement someday and that movie will be remembered as a landmark.
 
I'm an atheist... I don't believe in god or any 'divine' power.... I don't agree with organized religion at all....

But...

I'm still totally disgusted with this...

It's nothing even to do with religion...

A man has died have the decency to let his family and friends bury him in peace...

An excerpt of the website states: "The Church of the LORD Jesus Christ will not sit silently by while you maudlin haters of God try to preach this fool into heaven. Despite what every talking head in the sports and news world would have you believe, Reggie White was not a good man!"[119]
The site maintains that White, who was a professional American football player that died in 2004, is in hell. Ironically, White, who was an ordained Minister, also publicly condemned homosexuality in a speech before members of the Wisconsin state legislature in 1998.[120]
Read the bold type, they still picketed him.

The website is particularly critical of openly gay Irish Senator David Norris, stating:

Have they ever read the Bible? Did they not learn a single thing from the life and teachings of Jesus? It makes me sick when people exploit religion, and use it as an excuse to divide, to alienate, to spread hatred, and basically completely go against the core meaning of their so-called religious beliefs.

But the Westboro Baptist Church aren't Christians. Not really. They have been denounced by pretty much every denomination of Christianity out there. Yep. Like I said earlier in this or another thread, while the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, 9/11, the Salem Witch Trials, Manifest Destiny, the subjection of women, and thousands of random acts of violence against homosexuals have all been fun, I am getting a tad weary of religion and it's stranglehold on the human psyche.

I believe in God and I think organized religion is the antithesis of him/her. Even the Christian God, look how unfavorably he looked up on the institutions of his time.
 
What a noble cause...I would love to join if I were not half way across the country.
