I agree it is admirable. Norman is a great person for having an idea like this. I just think that any sort of "anti-protest" would just be an even bigger distraction to Heath's family. One is enough...don't give them another, no matter how good intentioned it may be.

I understand. That's why I think what should be done is, as JStorm stated, a rememberance of Ledger himself.

If enough people rally around the funeral just to remember him, so long as there are more of them than of the Phelps Protestors.

Nothing violent or ridiculous, because the Ledger family shouldn't be offended or ridiculed or protested at in ANY way, positive or negative.

Fans should just show up in support of the family, not with the intent of getting into the collective faces of the protestors.

I just watched a documentary on this so called church. Sickening! I would like to help Norman, but I don't have the money or time. Let's hope these people are stopped.

Wow, love the ignorance. Read more on their site, and everything is "God hates this," and "God hates that," God hates nothing.

Also, they protest an actor who portrayed a homosexual, which hurts not a damned person, but I have read nothing of them protesting those who portrayed murderers and rapists on film, "sins" which actually DO hurt people.

Just to clarify, I, in NO WAY, believe that homosexuality is a sin. There is absolutely nothing that can be shown to be wrong about it. Right and wrong are very easy to define. Does it cause harm to someone or something in any way shape or form? If yes, then it can be considered to be wrong. How the hell does homosexuality hurt anyone?

But even if it starts like that, it never ends like that. Intentions are all fine and good...but...well...the path to hell is paved in good intentions.

If these guys were proper goddamn christians, they would try and reach out to people they say are 'sinful', not brand them as irretrievably damned and picket their funerals.

They're cowards, and if there is a hell, they deserve to spend eternity there.

I only wish I was able to do anything about this.

here's what i wrote in the Ledger thread, i guess it goes well here also:

Nope. Legit. It was taken directly from their official website.

Mods and others, i hate to go off topic, but i have to speak my mind on this. This'll be my only off topic post in this thread.

That is just plain wrong. As a Christian, i take extreme offense to this kind of hatred..I mean, i'm against homosexuality (i believe it to be a sin) but i don't act prejudicely towards homosexuals or anything..my church goes with the "love the sinner, hate the sin" philosophy, as do i...but at the same time Ledger played a role, a very risky and controversial role, but a role nonetheless..these people don't deserve to call themselves Christ-followers if they are going to act that way, all they're doing is putting more of a bad name on us who are true believers in the Bible and in Christ. Ledger was an exceptional actor and an exceptional human being, and I pray to God he's upstairs instead of downstairs.

thats all i have to say, now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go back on topic. Thanks mods

Exactly!

And do you really think it would end with a quiet protest? These people are pros. They know how to stir **** up. All it would take is for them to get one of you to start yelling back (and someone will...someone always does) and it escalates until you are a bigger distraction than any of them.

We would have to be disciplined. Very disciplined. Almost impossible? Yes. However I think, with proper leadership, it could be done.

Very true...unfortunately.

Still, I don't think it's unreasonable to have SOMETHING be done to keep these people from going through with the protest.

I mean given what they intend to do, It's just unfathomable.

If anything, Ledger's wake/funeral/burial will take place back in Australia where his family can gather and mourn and say goodbye in absolute peace.

It's just too vulnerable a thing for something like Phelp's picketing to actually happen, y'know?

My parents' religion is the same way, they don't agree with homosexuality but they certainly don't go against it and say "homosexuals are evil and will go to hell!". Showing love to everybody, even the sinners, is even what the freakin bible says.

Bishop i couldn't agree more. If they were real Christ-followers, they would love the sinner as Christ did. maybe they should really read the Bible sometime and look at who Jesus hung out with: tax collectors, prostitutes, lepers, and i'm more than certain there were a few gay people in the mix as well. I may not agree with homosexuality, but I sure as hell will not persecute them. Love the sinner hate the sin is all i'm saying

It could be. But do you really think a few days would be enough time to ensure that the anti-protestors are disciplined enough to avoid it? You gave me good advice as a friend last night, Norm...and I'd like to return the favor. Don't start an anti-protest. I really do support and applaud the ideals behind this and the good intentions. But all it would serve is to ruin Heath's funeral even further and make it that much more painful for his family.

Honestly, Christ was about love. How can love between two people be a sin? :whatever:

People like this are the reason we had the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, 9/11 and hordes of other bull**** done in the name of "God." I hate humans.

Agreed 100%. The Phelps gang is NOT religious, IMO. I'm sure if they could get away with it they would attack gay people and beat them to death. This isn't a church, it's a rabid fanatical cult bent on attention and false teachings.

It's the 'old fight' against a 'new thought.'

If a homosexual walks into my church, with a wanting to, at least, 'know,' my priest welcomes he or she with open arms, as he would anyone.

The 'old' do look down upon it; but the 'new' - fight - in hopes that we will become a new generation.

they aren't followers of Christ though.. they are followers of their on anger, fear and stupidity. Thats what they follow.

Yes, this is ridiculous, albeit not unexpected. As far as I know, it's compeltely lawful. An anti-protest would just be throwing gasoline on the fire. Let it go. If they won't show dignity, at least Heath Ledger's fans can.

They are followers in a skewed understanding.

One can not change the future, without fully understanding the past.

I will learn from their mistakes.

Ironic:
And these "christians" are protesting against anything they find wrong, and insult and spit upon them.
Satanists hardly ever protest against anything, no matter how christian it is. One rule of being one is you must respect another's territory.

Kinda made me chuckle a bit.

Letting them do this with no opposition tears at every fiber in my being. Ledger's daughter shouldn't have to see her father's funeral protested.

The best thing that can happen, right now, is for Ledger to be buried in Perth, away from these animals.

i wouldnt say explicitly "false", but more along the lines of things taken out of context and used as fodder for their natural fear and hatred of homosexuals. its almost a second Jim Jones kinda deal, starting out as a church and slowly transforming into a cult..very creepy

exactly...

but what i don't get is WHY they're so focused on homosexuality.

why they aren't picketing the funerals of child molestors, rapists, murderers and burglars, people who commit ACTUAL sins that affect other people's lives. i'm not endorsing doing this, but it would make more sense than picketing the funeral of dead gay man after dead gay man.

perhaps fred phelps is just repressed. i don't know.

These people are horrible, sign me up Stormin for whatever you need.
