Batgirl 'Batgirl' movie? - Part 1

I'd personally like to see Katherine McNamara as Babs. She has the red hair, a good look, she's has a good personality for her and she dressed as Batgirl.
I think she'd need to bulk up just a little bit for the role. I haven't seen Katherine in anything recently, but she's always seemed (past tense) a bit on the thin side.

Also, someone else who would be good is Annalise Basso, she also has a good look and personality. She even said Batgirl is her dream role and said she would love to play her.
Isn't she a bit young for Batgirl?

She kinda is, but it depends on how young they want her to be.

Good call on whoever first brought her up.

I never really followed Batgirl stories. But the general idea (which the above panel seems to reinforce) always struck me as a lighthearted, “family friendly” approach to the genre. I.e., the same sort of tone that the upcoming Shazam! appears to take. Nothing wrong with that at all. Variety is good. But it does make integrating her into a pre-existing “dark and gritty” Batman world somewhat problematic.

But at this point (post Whedon), perhaps a Batgirl movie will be more of a “standalone.” In which case, tonal integration is less of an issue.

I thought that was more of a modern revamp when she's been fairly serious for decades. They also made her younger since the New52 reboot.

Bryce Dallas Howard looks like she could be a good fit.

My MVP is still Emma Stone for sure though. Make it happen DC!

The lightheartedness in relation to Batman is half the point. The comics and various animation have made the dynamic work for a long time.

She posted this along with it.

She's also super great, I want one these two.
Oh by all means. :woot:

Didn't bother with SlenderMan myself, but she KILLED IT on her "Electric Dreams" episode. Seriously, check her out if you've got Prime.

Let's be real, Babs isn't that hard to cast. Every young upstart is gonna be piling onto this one, regardless of hair color. :whatever:

So FandomWire is reporting that Batgirl is now a tv series for DC Universe.

Seems a little redundant since they’re doing a Batwoman series on the CW, but I’m down.

Is Fandom Wire reliable?

If it's true, then...okay? I think a Batgirl movie is a good idea, and I think a Batgirl TV show is a good idea, and I'm not really sure which I want more, so okay then.

Having both a Batgirl and Batwoman show isn't confusing at all.....

Yeah, not only Batwoman in development for CW, but Stargirl has been announced for DC Universe.
I would think that DCU would want as wide a variety of shows as possible to generate the largest possible interest, but Stars and Batgirl would seem to occupy a similar fan space.
I’d watch all of these shows, but really hope that Batgirl is still a movie.

None of this stuff feels right if they still can’t get Superman and Batman steadily right. Work on those two, get them going well and then I’ll care about everything else.

I’ve seen something like a dozen Batman and Superman movies in theaters.

I want Batgirl.

Batgirl Show?

BATGIRL TV Series Rumored To Be In The Works For DC Universe Streaming Service

Yep. Not to mention that there's no guarantee that WB will ever get Batman and Superman right again. As the old proverb says, "better a Batgirl movie today than a Batman one tomorrow". :o

So a batgirl movie and a batgirl show on DC’s streaming service

As someone who has always talked about not minding tv and movie versions of characters, I’m cool with that

I think it might be one or the other.

If it was well done, I’d prefer a good Batgirl show. More time with and exploration of the character and the mythos in general. Batgirl on TV and Oracle in the movies could work too.

I'd like to see Barbara as Oracle being a mentor to Cassandra or Stephanie (or both), with some flashbacks to Barbara as Batgirl.

The Cassandra-Steph-Babs team up would be a dream come true.

Christina Hodson on Batgirl:

How much can you share about working on “Batgirl”?

Basically nothing, other than I’m really excited — because she’s Batgirl! She’s all the things I love about Batman. I’ve always been more interested in humans than supernatural things and monsters. People are capable of profound good, but also profound evil. The things that people will do when you back them into a corner are amazing, terrifying, and wonderful at the same time, and it draws out these primal things in us — good and bad. And that, to me, is so fascinating.
