Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 3

I think people think of Black Mask because we haven't seen him in live-action before and he was also brought into the spotlight a little more with Arkham Origins, not necessarily because they're a fan of comics with him as the main villain.

To me, he kind of seems like a character where someone could think of it as a blank slate and put their own spin on the character.

Just off the top of my head, they could make Roman Sionis a more direct foil for Batman and have him form the false face society as some weird culty thing rich people join and draw some comparisons to Batman/Bruce. Who knows?

I do agree though that the Black Mask of today is just a generic sadist/torturer.

None of you is going to mention that he looks like the coal faced brother of Red Skull?

Nope. When someone mentions Black Mask, I can think of only one thing. If you care to know what that is, do a Google image search for Black Mask + Maggie Kyle. You may not like what you find, though. It's pretty graphic in nature for a comic.

He's a talented guy. He never really caught on for whatever reason but I wager he'd be very good in the role.

His only knock is that he has a rather youthful voice despite his age. He's a lot like Gyllenhaal in that regard.

Agreed. That's my only real concern with him. It's not too hard to make your voice sound deeper, though.

No because DC and Marvel are always super original.

I was referring to this. :csad:
He essentially tortured and murdered Maggie Kyle's husband before her eyes, then force fed her his eyeball. Selina (her big sister), naturally, was none too pleased.

That's why I shared a successor.

I'm thinking these guys are our best contenders:

Ryan Gosling
Oscar Isaac
Wes Bentley
Jon Hamm
Michael Fassbender
Armie Hammer
Anson Mount
Luke Evans
Idris Elba
Tom Cullen

I like all these except Gosling.

I mean Bentley would have that tortured feel of Bruce.

I’m loving the idea of Bentley as Batman

Batley?
Bentman?
:o

I think he'd look great in the cowl as well, as the lower portion of his face doesn't have any notable peculiarities. That should allow him to better conform to the disguise or "disappear behind it" as they say.

And again, those recent pics from Yellowstone (this one, for example) give us a pretty good idea of what he'd look like with a little extra mass. Imagine if he really put in some effort to bulk up.

This is an interview from last year where Bentley briefly discusses Batman at the 20:18 mark. Larry King apparently endorses him as well.

A little bit later on in the video he's asked if he could play any comic book character he said Batman

Yeah, I couldn't find that part in the video (and didn't have the patience to sit through the whole thing), so I just linked to a separate article where it's highlighted.

Reference post #635

I don't know anything about his acting ability, but as far as the looks go, he's by far the best we've probably seen in here.

But again, I know nothing about his acting.

If you've got the stomach for something like American Horror Story, try watching the first couple of episodes from S5 aka Hotel. As a detective tasked with investigating occult phenomena and the like, it's possibly the most noirish thing he's done to date. Again, though, the show really goes there. That's all I'm gonna say.

Haha, I only brought up Black Mask because he's a kind of "evil mirror image" of Bruce. Don't necessarily want him for a movie, was just a "Bentley has the look but I can't shake his bad-guy vibes" thing.

Count me in as another guy that doesn’t understand the Black Mask fascination. Pretty much any actor could play him.

From what I understand, his characterization was a lot more unique and creepy in his early appearances, and he became more of a generic crime boss as time went on. He just feels like a basic villain with a cool visual.

I know he primarily gets brought up because we haven’t seen him on film before, but there’s a number of great villains we haven’t seen on film before that I’d wanna see first. I do want to see Black Mask, just not as a primary villain in a Batman movie.

And as far as a dark mirror Bruce goes? I’d much rather Hush

Penguin offers the "dark mirror" angle and is a much more interesting character to boot. And if we're looking for a psychotic gangster, I'd take Ventriloquist over Black Mask 10 times out of 10.

You guys want a villain that serves as a dark reflection to Batman?

Seems like much more Matt Reeves’ thing. Hell, it seems like much more Andy Serkis’ thing too.
