Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread - Part 4

A little studio intervention doesn’t have to be bad. Strong arm him into casting Armie so we can have a viable Batman that could believably appear in team up films AND solos without being dwarfed or too glaring of a difference from Ben. Ideally, since the DCEU isn’t dead, we would have a Batman that can slip into Ben’s place in the DCEU without too much of a fuss.

Why would you want this studio to strong arm anyone into doing anything? Especially since allowing the (critically acclaimed) directors they hired to do what they wanted resulted in WW and AM?

Strong arm sometimes could be a good thing, I agree. But I also understand that for past few years WB's meddling wouldn't inspire fans' confidence.

For WW and AQ, both directors work with people who they didn't cast and both said (at least Patty has news links about it) that they probably wouldn't cast them. And both actors have so many people doubted their acting capabilities or ability to carry their respective movies. Many things to prove.

They both work. Directors, GA and many fans grew to loved them too and now hard to imagine other actors in their mantles.
In another universe perhaps we could have an American actress (like Patty said) or Patrick Wilson (Wan's trustee actor) as WW and AQ. :funny:

Actors who aren't what directors have in mind could work. Not all the time, but they could.

And one other thing I wish for the future Batman actor is a mature look.
Someone who is believable to lead and being a father figure for multiple Robins and pop out in 'present days' with loads of history baggage.
Some actors in rumor list seems more 'Robin' or youthful/ babyfaced. Logan Lerman, Dylan O'Brien, Ansel Elgort etc. I don't think that few grey hairs and makeup/ wardrobe work would aged them much.

Momoa and Gal looks young enough but also believable to have teenage (or older than that) proteges. Well, IMHO anyway.

If Reeves is going for such a young and possibly emotionally immature Bruce in a story that will feature him going through a transformation, I can see this starting out as a revenge story that goes bad. Like an expansion of what happens in Bruce's head before he decides to get a gun to kill Joe in Begins. And maybe when Joe actually does end up getting murdered, Bruce is maybe framed for it and has to catch who the real killer is via some detective work.

I don't think it will be as simple as revenge, or a straightforward morality tale. I think we might finally get to see a developing story of the actual thought processes that go into being Batman, a real exploration of the toll being Batman would take on a person. Besides physicial issues, bruises and people around you dying. The evolving psychology of it. Nolan sort of went there, but kind of scratched the surface of it. That approach is not only faithful to the modern interpretation of the character, but could "connect" to Affleck's Batman if people wanted to see it that way.

I know he will most likely be a late 20 or early 30's actor but I really like both Wes Bentley and Anson Mount.
Either one could pull off Bruce Wayne AND Batman.

LOL just saw someone on Twitter say that playing Batman ruins careers.

You know... because it's not like Bale won an Oscar between his second and third movie or anything. And those couple of Oscar noms he's picked up since TDKR? A fluke. He's clearly floundering. :o

I'd pick Hammer over any of the actors on the list to be honest.

So reading the posts and realising Reeves wants a younger guy for the role I had just decided Nicholas Hoult was the most exciting pick out of the selections thrown up. Then I see he's the same age as Tom Bateman. See thats what I love about Bateman among these other choices. He just comes across as being 35-40 when he's not even 30 until March.

I do like Hoult as the unconventional choice though. Doesn't have those classic Bruce Wayne good looks though. I'm also worried about where he's going to fit some muscular bulk onto that lanky spindly frame of his.

Is this a casting for a stand alone Batman franchise that is completely separate from the Gadot/Momoa DC stuff? Got me wondering if the age thing was so important to Reeves because he's going to cast a youngster to play a young Clark Kent who can grow up as this Batman matures so that they're the right ages when the team up.

All this stupid discussions on Twitter about a black actor being cast as Batman make me REALLY not want a black actor as Batman if only because I don't want race politics constantly mentioned in discussions leading up to a Batman film. The whole baggage that'd come with it would be really ****ing distracting.
.

According to odds from bookmaker BoyleSports, The Lone Ranger and Call Me By Your Name star Armie Hammer is the 7/2 favourite to play the next Batman, followed by Jake Gyllenhaal (Velvet Buzzsaw) at 11/2, Jon Hamm (Mad Men) at 13/2, Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) at 8/1 and Ben Barnes (The Punisher) at 8/1.

Eh, not saying I want to see a black Batman/Bruce, but this is lame reasoning to not want to see one in the first place. Surely, one can ignore twitter? Not distracting at all. This is kinda like ignoring certain actors/actresses and their fandom. Gaga seems to have over the top fans, but I wouldn't replace her in A Star is Born.

I keep trying to picture Hoult in the suit. Dude looks like a skinny guy wearing cosplay to me.

Lmao.Half the actors on that list are over 35. That's how you know that guy is lying.

Keaton's enjoying a nice little second act as of late as well.

Playing Superman on the other hand...well...the jury is still out... ;)

Hoult has the young look to him, he will still have the same look into his 40s, which all the power to him with that vampire blood. It would be a hard pill to swallow to buy him as Batman for me. Even in the most positive of vibes, I just don't see it. I want a Batman/Bruce who looks older than his years, but still has that youth, kinda like Margot has. Many were even questioning her age a couple years back, she looks mature. Michael Cera in his 50s will still look like a 20 something, ya know? lol

I'm not against a race change, and in fact am frequently annoyed by the people who throw fits about it, BUT I don't much care for the attitude I occasionally see on social media that a project somehow loses points if a character who's been white for 80 years is being played by a white actor.
