Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

The only thing he'd have to do is deepen his voice a bit, otherwise I think he's a slam dunk in nearly every regard.
My main concern with Affleck was his voice, and he nailed that. Bentley would be great.

I know I'll get **** for this, but I think Eion Bailey would also be a great choice. Dark hair, blue eyes, six feet tall, and has an "old Hollywood" look to him that would fit Bruce Wayne very well. Plus he's already in decent shape, so a few months at the gym would get him where we need him. He's in his early forties, so if you pulled a RDJ and locked him up for ten years, he'd only be pushing fifty by the time he's done. He's not an in-demand actor, so scheduling shouldn't prove too difficult. And say what you will about his Batman Begins audition, it was over ten years ago and he's only improved with age. Personally, I think he's an underrated talent and he'd fit a more cerebral, detective Batman perfectly.

The only question is would he want a second-go at the character.

So my top three are:

Eion Bailey
Richard Armitage
Wes Bentley

I'd like to see him in 1 full solo Batman movie before they recast the character. Its weird how they make a commitment to the DC movie universe then talk about rebooting/recasting the main character. so much for continuity. I realize Ben is getting older and he only signed on for 3 movies, but he's supposed to be an old Batman and hes the glue for all the movies. He was in BvS, SS, his name was in WW, he's putting together the JL....it just seems like too much to recast him
Ben leaving DC has nothing to do with his age.

Bentley was originally my top choice for the role, so I'd be thrilled to have him succeed Affleck in the event it comes to that. My only concern is his voice, which appears to be somewhat soft-spoken.

@Boom,

Bailey was my pick for Supes.

^ Ben's my favorite on-screen Batman, and I certainly hope he sticks around for a bit longer. In the interim, there's no harm in discussing other potential candidates for the role should he move on.

I really want Ben to stay on but it seems unlikely that he'll do a trilogy of Batman films. I hope I'm wrong though. He's a great Batman

Jake Gyllenhaal
Ryan Gosling
Michael Fassbender
Armie Hammer
Jon Hamm

Who else could do it?

From your choices, I think Hammer is the only one who be a good Bruce Wayne and Batman, everyone else except Hamm (I can't stand this guy) would make a better Joker.

Frank Grillo and Antony Starr are the only 2 actors that I think would nail the part perfectly.

Anybody else i could think of might do a decent job but mostly I think they would just look great in a the costume or that they could nail the voice. Ex: Dominic Purcell, Josh Hartnett, Karl Urban, Gabriel Macht, Matt Bomer, Clive Owen, Jude Law and Chris Pine.

On this week's Meet the Movie Press, Jeff Sneider subtly mentioned Colin Farrell's name as a possible replacement.

Well you don't have to take part in it. :cwink:

Would absolutely love to see him play the other billionaire vigilante.

Remember the reports of Jude Law and Farrell being cast as Superman and Batman respectively in the original BvS movie that was in the works in like '01?

Yeah, not sure I trust that. Farrell's not going to be put in a role like that again either. Has he ever succeeded headlining a big film like that?

Also what about Ben McKenzie? :D

I'm not sure if Farrell himself would be interested, but I'm also not sure I buy that line of reasoning. Bale's previous blockbusters were Equilibrium and Reign of Fire before he was cast in Begins. Not to mention pretty much all of Ben Affleck's previous blockbusters were stinkers, although Armageddon did make money. Heck, Affleck got cast after being in Daredevil, which Farrell was also in.

Not saying I believe this is in play right now, but stranger things have happened.

Farrell wouldn't be bad

I could see it happening for sure. Armie Hammwr still feels the most likely .

I really didn't like the idea of Farrell as Batman a decade ago and I'm still not that keen on it . Then again, alot of the names thrown around back then aside from Bale didn't inspire much confidence.

Heck, I remember when Ashton Kutcher was someone WB considered:huh:.

If we're talking about recasting Affleck's Bruce Wayne, i'd look at David Borenez and Jim Cavizeal.

I feel like I stepped into an early 2000s time machine. I haven't seen these names associated with superheroes in a while.

I'd personally start on a clean slate and target a whole new crop of actors. They lucked out on Bale the first go-around, those same pool names do not inspire confidence, especially today.

It's true.

He wasn't very good! Might as well recast Joker if they're recasting a Batman who actually did a great job. I know they have no choice but to recast, but still.

Remember the shortlist?

Ryan Gosling
Joe Manganiello
Richard Armitage
Max Martini
Josh Brolin
Matthew Goode

I was SERIOUSLY disappointed with The Joker in Suicide Squad, but I still feel like Leto has (or maybe had) potential to be great in the role. When I saw the end to the first Comic Con trailer, I thought he was gonna be a Ledger level

Was watching this show on Netflix, dark crime drama, The Fall, and the guy who played the serial killer, Jamie Dornan, had that handsome, charming, but also mysterious and tormented vibe that would make a good younger Batman/Bruce I think. Might have to pack on some serious extra muscle.

Edit: Apparently, he was also in Fifty Shades Of Grey. Might could make a good Nightwing

Since my hope is Affleck will stick around for another 5-10 years

the actors I would consider should be in their early to mid 20's now so they can take on the role of Batman at 30

Also remember there are 3 roles here an actor has to play

Batman
Bruce Wayne private
Bruce Wayne public

with that said I think Liam Hemsworth (thor's younger brother) Might be able to pull off all of it or honestly the only other actor I can think of

Dan Stevens, yes he is British but he can pull off the accent he is also able to be charming dark menacing and scary all in the same film don't believe me watch the Guest. the olny issue is that would put him in his mid 40's but that wouldn't be a huge issue
