Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

I think Joel Edgerton or Lee Pace would do fine with the role. Edgerton is only 5'11 so he might need platform shoes like RDJ uses in the Marvel films, but that's certainly doable.

I usually put up Jake Gyllenhaal's name for Batman, but after seeing his performance in Netflix's Okja, I think he'd be a killer Joker.

Sam Rockwell as The Joker would be a twelve-year-old dream come true. He was a very popular choice on these boards prior to Ledger's casting in TDK.

And Vision, could you perhaps elaborate? I know Hammer is a divisive actor around these parts so I can understand not liking that suggestion, but aside from age perhaps I don't see a single knock against Armitage at all.

-Talented, charismatic actor with an edge to him
-Tall
-Black hair
-Blue eyes
-Athletic build

So many boxes checked off.

Jake Gyllenhaal is Hal Jordan :woot:

Ok, so the memes are starting to call Affleck "Buttman" now that he has his own groping scandal. Whoever definitely wanted a new Batman, I'm sure you'll get it now. Affleck has just become insanely toxic, and I would be surprised if he lasts another week without being replaced or forced to step down.

I like Ben well enough in the role, but even aside from personal stuff with him, there seems to be a question mark in regards to his future as Batman, so maybe it's just best to make a clean break and move forward.

And, personally, Gyllenhaal would be at the top of the list of actors to pursue. Some here may scoff and say it'll never happen. I don't buy it. For one thing, before that piece of casting was made official, I don't think anyone here was thinking of Ben Affleck as a realistic possibility. There's been a few hits taken since then, and we don't know how JL will turn out, but if Matt Reeves has got a strong enough vision for this thing, I really think it could happen.

Eh, WB will have to weather the coming weeks until JL comes out. Firing Affleck before then makes a bad situation worse.

Oh yeah, I don't think they'll do that either. But there will be a big gap between JL's release and whenever the hell production is supposed to kick off on this film.

"After much deliberation, I have decided to not return to the role of Batman. Such an iconic deserves someone's 100% concentration, which I cannot give at this time. I thank the fans and am eager to see the next iteration of the character I love so much."

^yep I bet that's what will happen.

Like sports players saying "I deeply regret my actions"

I still would love to see Idris as the bat but I think things are too toxic for him right now. Armytage is a good choice though

I don't see him announcing anything until next year.

From PR point of view, the less sensational news he makes the better from here, that includes not actively making more headlines linking him with negative Batman news outside the movie footage.

I think WB need to ‘do a Jackman’ when recasting Batman.

Don’t go for a big name. It isn’t needed. Batman sells the film. A big star isn’t required at all.

Conduct a search for a much lesser known actor who has the acting chops, physicality, and the right look for the character.

Hugh Jackman was largely an unknown when cast as Wolverine, and he made it his own. We need the same for Batman now.

Just curious how many people will change their tune about Armie Hammer if he's nominated for an Oscar this year.

I actually think that's true of most superheroes.

If someone sounds like Conroy and has a square chin..I'd be through the roof :btf:

I really want Ben to stay on but it seems unlikely that he'll do a trilogy of Batman films. I hope I'm wrong though. He's a great Batman

I feel the same.

So far of the ones mentioned, Wes Bentley's the only choice that would have me interested, though he's significantly shorter than Affleck.

Should’ve never been Affleck. If the intention was for Bruce to show up in 6+ movies they needed a guy who could commit. A smaller name.

I think Armie Hammer’s time has come. Nail him down in a 6-9 film contract and let him do his thing. I honestly have no doubt that he’d be great.

And if Affleck's first experience as the character wasn't what BVS ended up being, I'm sure him doing six movies wouldn't be the question it is now.

It's weird..I'm more interested in a Nightwing movie than a young Batman movie. Though by the time DC gets a new Batman off the ground it could be 5 years from now.

I think with Affleck the intention was that he would direct his own Batman movie..then that fell through.

It's funny, because the Snyderverse films with Batman have seemed to "age up" Affleck to the point that I wouldn't mind an actor who looks more his age play the role.

Ironically he looks younger in JL.

But back to Armitage..he looks his age..but not particularly rough.

If WB wasn't above an early 50s Batman..I could see him play both roles quite nicely.

Seems like the top choices around here are Armitage and Hammer. Both have a good chance too. WB has considered them in the past

Since bringing Bale back is out of the question, my choices are Karl Urban (His MCU role doesn't put him out of the running IMO) or Jim Caviezel. Armitage would be OK. Armie Hammer gets a big NO from me. I'm not as against Gyllenhaal for Batman as I used to be, but I still think they should find a different character for him and think he fits better as Hal Jordan.

If I'm being honest, I won't miss Affleck though I do feel like he wanted to do a good job, he just doesn't have the gravitas Batman needs IMO.

Hammer is getting universal acclaim for his performance in Call Me By Your Name, and he was very strong in The Birth of a Nation (controversy aside). Not to mention his work in The Social Network under Fincher's guidance.

Yeah, his mainstream starring vehicles have been mostly duds, but he's been putting together quite a resume in the independent circuit. Now, if you don't think he has the edge needed to play Batman, that's one thing. But if we're strictly talking about talent, he has plenty of it. I simply don't think there is any denying it at this point. You don't just fluke into the kind of responses he's getting for CMBYN.

Armie Hammer directed by someone like Matt Reeves? I'd be all for it. Assuming Reeves is even going with a younger version, that is. If they're sticking with an older Batman, Armitage and Urban should absolutely be the first calls made.

Amen to that! Like someone else posted earlier in this thread he was my pick before Affleck was cast. Just watching his performance as Thorin convinced me that he would be a great Bats and a real good counterbalance to Cavill. I my mind to be a really good Batman the actor has to know how to play a good villain.
