Batman/Bruce Wayne Casting Thread

I saw the first two Hobbits and I didn't really care for him in that.

You could try watching some clips of him as the Red Dragon, then. He's a talented guy. Sucks he didn't do much for you in The Hobbit, because he was one of the few bright spots for me (and I say that as someone who was belligerent over them casting such a young guy to play Thorin).

He has gravitas and charisma, a commanding voice, and very expressive eyes. So if you're willing to go back to a Batman with more aquiline features, he'd be a good fit. Though I have my suspicions that Reeves may go younger with his Batman. Even if Armitage was interested, his shelf life is no better than Affleck's.

Haven't really seen much of his movie roles, but his work on tv is pretty self-explanatory.

Strike Back is likely when I first encountered him and now he's the lead of Berlin Station.

I've never been all that much into the Armitage choice, but I feel like any actor the Hype stands behind for a role and the actor who is actually cast rarely overlap. I mean, was anyone here even suggesting Zachary Levi for Shazam?

I'm in wait and see mode. If we're headed toward a recast, I'll give it some real thought when it's official.

I'm convinced that Ben won't return to the role.

Same. It's just a matter of waiting however long until after Justice League is out before Warner Bros come clean on that and announce his departure, I think.

I quite like Armitage, but I feel like they're probably going to steer for a younger actor to replace Affleck. It's just a question of how much younger he'll be. I feel like they could either go in the Armie Hammer direction and shave off a good 15-20 years from the DCEU Batman, or get someone in their mid-to-late 30s like Jake Gyllenhaal or Oscar Isaac to make the DCEU Batman a bit more youthful, but still be able to present him as a generally "veteran" Batman too.

If Gyllenhaal gets the role after all this time, I'm going to have a mighty laugh. He's been wanting the role for how long now? lmao He'd definitely crush it as Batman.

Yeah, it honestly wouldn't surprise me much if Reeves were to cast a relative unknown in the role, or maybe somebody that nobody would've expected (like Jason Clarke).

I saw at least 3 people suggest Levi before he was even a runner up.

I just Want Affleck gone already. Nothing about him is Batman to me.

Matt Reeves started to follow Armie Hammer on twitter around 1 month ago . :shr: This could mean anything, but I can definitely see him as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I'm warming up to him as an actor finally. And he has the height, deep voice and the right age to pull it off for an entire trilogy. A lot of us thought he could be Hal Jordan or Dick Grayson months ago but now I'm thinking he's Bruce in a prequel series/soft reboot.

Why is this thread still so active?

Ben Affleck IS the Batman!

Because there's a high likelihood Affleck is done with Batman after Justice League.

I will say this about Armie Hammer. I'm not convinced he's the best choice for Batman. However, there was a time where I wasn't sure about Chris Evans playing Captain America. Sometimes actors need to be given a chance to prove themselves in certain roles. Sometimes they succeed (IE Evans as Cap; Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool). Sometimes they fail (ie Reynolds as Green Lantern).

Armie Hammer's biggest movie so far was The Lone Ranger. And based off that, I think he'd be miscast as Batman. Quite frankly, I still don't know why he was the choice to play the character 10 years ago for George Miller.

Even with Affleck, there are qualities I don't hate about his Batman, though I think he was the wrong choice. It's not all of his fault. It's partly because Snyder wanted Frank Miller's Batman and not a more contemporary DC Universe version of Batman or like a Paul Dini/Bruce Timm Batman.

Well the reason why there's a shift is because Armie will most likely be nominated for Best Actor this year. I think he just needs a good director and script and a multi layered character to sink his teeth into and he'll be set. Because he has the physique, voice, hair...now he's beginning to prove that he has the acting chops.

I think an announcement will be made in the coming months that Ben will no longer be the Batman. He just seems so uninterested in all the JL promo press interviews.

He should've stuck to his guns and never accepted the offer to play Batman. He was better off without doing this. He was the one that said he would never do another comic book superhero film role again.

Well I'm sure he never expected BvS to receive the backlash it did...

You are right, but he's had experience having to deal with that before. The stigma that comes with playing a role like this. He probably thought he got to a point in his career where he was teflon after having become a legit filmmaker and taken home another Academy Award.

But his career would've been better off if he didn't accept Batman.

Vile, have you seen some interviews he is doing for JL? Dude looks bored crap-less out there.

Yeah. He does look out of it. But he's also had a lot going on lately he's having to deal with in the public.

But it's also hard to forget that interview that sparked the whole Sad-Affleck meme with Batman v Superman in 2016. That sort of colored the whole reaction to the film. Instead of a glorious return to comic book superhero films, Affleck bet on the wrong horse.

Well everything else in his life has been much worse, so he's probably thankful that he at least has Batman to entertain some folks. Seperation from the wife, rehab, his own film being mauled by critics and did nothing commercially, looking like a pervy liar with this Weinstein news. At least he's got Batman! (I'm savage).

Their hearts were set on Bale returning but he was both loyal to Nolan and frankly didn't need the money (God knows he was offered everything under the sun). Perhaps he just smelled the desperation, who knows? Then Levitt, who also was loyal to Mr. N and also said, "Thanks but no thanks.".

Then... they started throwing out offers to names - to get a feel of where they were at. Affleck was one of them. The truth is the studio was as surprised by his accepting the role as everyone else. To this day, nobody seems to know why he said "Yes" - besides maybe the bragging rights. Certainly wasn't about the money or having back-up to get other films financed.

To be fair, i think he was a fan too and thought it could be fun and different under Snyder's weird vision of an older brutal Batman. But he definitely got over confident thinking he was untouchable and nothing could go wrong.

JOSH BROLIN IN EVERY CINEMATIC UNIVERSE.

But seriously, he's perfect for Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Replace Daine Lane if you have to.

Well said. He certainly looks like a beaten man.

I want Hammer for GL. I think they'll cast a lesser known actor with less baggage
