The Dark Knight Rises Batman out in the daylight

Probably more overcast and later in the day/afternoon...not quite noon and sunny.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking if it wasn't night. I'd be fine with that, since sunlight hours are shorter in winter anyway.

I think the apocalyptic idea was brilliant, instantly reminded me of 'The Road' and how lighting effected that film:

Or 'Runaway Train'.

The Dark Knight Rises contains scenes which include Batman appearing in the daytime. The last time we've seen this happen was the 1960s and since then Batman has returned to the darkness. How did you guys feel seeing him fight in broad daylight? To me, it didn't seem to bother me at all. I think most people associate Batman in the day as campy and contradictory. However, story-wise I think it made sense. It didn't come off as odd or out of place.

Yeah it sort of made sense with him "rising" from the dark into the light and his "death".

Lots of metaphors at work here but was all for a good reason and careful planning no doubt.

Agreed, Batman fighting in daylight wasn't an issue for me and it actually felt quite natural given the circumstances.

I think the snow helped a lot too, made for a great looking scene.

I like it...especially since it's Winter. Gives it a grey, bleak, apocalyptic feel. Probably wouldn't be as appropriate if it looked like a clear sunny Spring day or what have you.

It still amazes me at how it looked like winter in the middle of a HOT summer. I mean when I watched the movie, I really believed that it was winter. One scene in particular is when there was an overhead shot of one of the camo-tumblers and there was no music and you could hear the tires crunching through the snow. It looked and sounded cold.

I liked it especially since it was his last appearance as Batman, it was as if the public had their chance to finally see the hero that he is. And I agree with the snow coming down added to it.

And I guess with a ticking time bomb about to go off, Batman couldn't exactly just say oh well, it's the daytime, nothing I can do! :woot:

It was also good to get to see Batman fighting in daylight to get a proper look at his technique, some of the other fights in earlier films were too dark to see what was properly going on. (Thinking of the nightclub fight in TDK)

The (basic) magic of filmmaking. :cwink: Diffused light and desaturating it also helped. I actually kind of wished it was a little heavier snow, but it still worked well.

Loved seeing the daytime fighting, as was pointed out, with the bomb countdown it was gonna have to go down this way.

I barely noticed that it was in the day so it was fine to me. He looked great in daylight.

Yeah, I thought it was awesome. It went full circle from Batman being hunted by the entire GCPD earlier in the film to leading them all into battle in broad daylight. It seemed appropriate that in his very last mission as Batman it was during the daytime for everyone to truly see him for the hero he was.

I liked it because he has come out of the shadows as Gotham's "dark knight" into their physical hero who stands with the cops to save the city and its soul in the bright light of day.

In fact, I wish there was a great first shot of him flying over the cops on his cape and inspiring them and emphasizing how strange it is for him to be doing this. Instead, he jsut sort of shows up in the crowd in the movie.

The overreactions when this was first brought up made it seem like Batman was going to be fighting on a bright summer day, lol. That wasn't even the case, of course.

Thematically it made sense, as it contrasted with Batman vs Bane part I, which took place in the dark and grungy sewer. The last battle was out in the open after Bruce had "Risen from the darkness".

It also looked beautiful from a cinematography standpoint. The shot of Batman emerging from the smoke and the other shot of Batman on the steps as Bane approaches him, with the cape flowing in the wind while the snow falls - Amazing!

I would have preferred him to have been fighting in the early morning, and to have taken The Bat and the bomb into the dawn, but...it worked okay for what it was.

It was bright and sunny in the way that a winter battlefield in ww1 looked bright and sunny.

The batsuit never looked as good as it did in the daylight. It was perfect.

Okay, not sure if this has been addressed.
But does anyone see problems with Batman fighting in the day in a massive crowd?

I thought the whole point of Batman was he was a ninja, who uses stealth, and tries to keep himself concealed.

Wouldn't fighting in a massive crowd in broad daylight be defeating the whole purpose of batman? He is fighting in snow and is in ALL BLACK, which means he can EASILY be seen.

Just need someone to explain how this works...

cheers
For one reason, I think it was just a way to show a different environment of Batman fighting. We have seen Batman fight at night many times throughout this trilogy. The snow was a way to show us the seasons have changed and many days have passed.

One main reason, remember when Bane said "I was born in darkness... the shadows betray you [Batman] because they belong to me"? So if the Batman were to fight Bane at night, what advantage were Batman really to have?

Another main reason is I think it was to show that Batman can do some old fashioned one on one brawling. Batman was never afraid to fight in the day, he just preferred to be stealthed during the nights.

The final reason is what choice did Batman have? He had to protect Gotham's enforcements no matter what, rain or shine, night or day. And he did by taking force from his stolen Tumbler's with his Bat, which encouraged them and made them fearless to fight Bane's criminals.

Yeah good to see it in all its glory, certainly my favourite bat suit by a mile that one:up:
It's a good suit, it's my favourite along with the Batman Returns design.

Is that the more armor plated sort of looking one? (Been a while since I've watched those films!!:woot:) If so yeah that was a pretty good one too agreed.

The whole head/neck design that they came up for that suit in TDK just made it look much better and practical. Also like the fact the bat symbol is ovbiously there but more subtle.

"They are gonna blow up entire city in 30 minutes! Do something!"
"In the middle of the day? Not very subtle"

KABOOM!

It looks awesome in the daylight and even better in person. When I was at the Wall St shooting, seeing Christian Bale wear it just made it look cooler. When I was watching him rehearse with Tom Hardy, I kept thinking "Wow, that's really Batman!"

Its also interesting that a lot of you found thematic elements to why he was in the daylight. It didn't even occur to me that there was a deeper meaning to it.
