BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - Part 1

If it makes one billion it will be refreshing but I doubt its going to happen. WB is so stupid, releasing trailers around the time of Star Wars. Moving the film to March, running from the 3rd installment of Captain America. The film should have been release the weekend of CA or the weekend after. Its BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. Batman vs Lex Luthor Superman vs Doomsday.

In case you haven't noticed, or been to busy to check the box office. Furious 7 will beat Avengers 2 WW despite opening at the same weekend as BvS will next year and Avengers 2 having a clear path to domination. It has been one of the best upsets ever.

As far as marketing is concerned, a year before Furious 7, we had no marketing at all. A year before MoS, we had the one teaser, a year before Civil War we have nothing.

And yeah, the GA frankly does not care about similar characters if the execution is good. Apocalypse will beat both Darkseid and Thanos to film, what does it matter?

It should be because its Batman & Superman but WB is meddling too much.

The reason the Batman films did so well is because Nolan told WB to sit down get out of my way and be quiet.

I wish it would smash Avengers but it won't. Marvel did the right thing by tying all the characters together with solo films first and not changing any characters. I believe if Bale was Batman it would make more $$$.

Yes the studio with the most Oscars and basically always top 3 in box office has no idea what it is doing.

$1.1 Billion

$350 domestic. The rest international.

^ 1.1 billion is my current prediction too, but I'm playing it safe so as not to be disappointed.

In order for this movie to only make 350dom it will have to open to the same thing as man of steel
No way this movie scores 350 more like 475-500
The opening weekend will be or if not closer to 200mil
And plus it's in theaters alone for a month
Do the math

I think you all forgetforget man of steel open to 112mil alone and made 291 with Bad drops.

so this movie will only make 60 more????????????????????????

I could entirely see it opening like Man of Steel, assuming its of similar ( lack of ) quality. However, if that happened, I don't think it'd have such a large foreign gross. Even the good DC movies have never done better than a 1.5 foreign/domestic multiplier. If BvS wants to break a billion dollars worldwide, I think its going to need to break 400M domestic.

You're kidding yourself. Even if the quality is lacking, the opening of this movie is going to be huge. If the critical response and word of mouth is poor, then I would expect it to drop off, but that opening weekend is gonna be big regardless.

Well, at least more and more people can understand how a billion is within reach.
This time last year and that was considered a fanboy delusion or pipe dream.

People do realize mos made near 300 domestic coming off a poorly received movie. Just look at the majority of 'hits' last year and see where that ranks.

People need to start keeping their expectations in check.

Not really. People need to not under-estimate the box office power this movie could have, if anything.

Look, I'm not saying that this movie is a guaranteed 1.5 billion. I'm just saying that the premise alone all but solidifies a big opening weekend. Add to that the fact that it's one of the most talked about movies ever and the six weeks with virtually no competition and it seems likely to break a billion if the movie is decent. If the movie gets good word of mouth and critical reception, it could break records.

'Could' is the important word, this film could be a billion dollar hit, but that goes for any film not just this one. Unfortunately we live in a time now where a select few films that have made a billion dollars are now seen as the benchmark and are skewing perceptions about what we should be expecting from movies. Most of those billion dollar movies are anomalies. The one thing I've learned is that fan predications are based on hope and feeling than any actual facts and figures, and even if they are using facts and stats to back up their argument there's usually a biased skewing said figures. I get it that people want this film to be big but a lot of the $1B+ talk is so premature because we don't know what this film will be like or what factors it will encounter next year. Hell, we already know people are iffy about this film based on the teaser trailer alone and that the last film wasn't everyone's cup of tea. The same $1B talk was being thrown around for MoS and to another extent with Age of Ultron with $2B talk and is also happening with Star Wars 7, everyone is inflating these films box office now to ridiculous expectations and then are going on calling films a failure for not meeting them. This isn't about under-estimating, it's about being realistic.

350m domestic is actually quite a lot.

No way this flim opens to anything less than 180
Even with a 60%drop in the second weekend will put it at 300 dom in its second week of release t
I can see the foreign numbers not being massive and topping out in between 500-600mil but your looking at a domestic monster here
Buddy with no competition this movie has a very good chance at making 500-600 domestic
Like I said A billion is the goal
Anything over will be a plus

^ I'm thinking 180 OW might be a tad bit high, albeit doable.

Speaking of which, what are people's OW predictions?

I'm thinking between 150-170 million.

140 M is my guess. I think MOS has it's following, but it was a mixed bag when it came to the critics, so I think that may impact BvS just a bit. Now, if BvS kills it, I can see JL making around 200 M+ OW for sure! Even SS and WW will get a hefty boost from BvS if its a mega hit! Stating the obvious I know...

I don't wanna make any predictions about how well this film will perform, but I will say that 'Furious Seven' releasing less than 10 days earlier 11 says LATER than "Batman v Superman' will next year (also dealing with an incoming Marvel film), and performing as well as it did (breaking April box office records and grossing grossing $1 Billion+) this year, bodes VERY well for this film next year.

'Furious Seven' crushed all doubts that a big, summer blockbuster type film could do THAT well in March/April months.

Honestly, I don't think MOS will even factor in to this movie's box office. Most of the GA don't even realize they're connected. Hell, they probably think it's a sequel to TDK or even The Avengers.

I'm guessing low end, 400 million, high end 500 million. I can't see it making any less than 400 million. I would be shocked.

lol. so true. i've had three conversations with people in the past month or so who've had varying levels of misunderstanding, be it that affleck is replacing bale or that it's not connected to mos, and im pretty sure all 3 people saw mos...

I think it will approach 1 billion and not quite make it. It will actually do very well, but stupid fanboys will ***** about it not hitting the billion mark and say that Marvel destroys DC. wah wah

I know people who didn't realize that TDK was a sequel to Batman Begins even though they had seen both.
