I just think it's hilarious that Deadpool is going to be the higher grosser. I kinda wish Ryan Reynolds would release a video, in costume, where Wade points that out.

Or they could be trying to not seem bias? They say it was looking to drop 70% yet they also made comparisons to previous blockbusters doing the same numbers. In fact the mentioned how much it cost as well as the cinema score. Both, which honestly, they could have kept out of the article. All in all it did a great job not coming off as an opinion piece.

Nah I know they were trying to not be biased, I liked the movie, I was just poking a bit of fun at the tone of the article. It sounded like they were coming in as a defense force

Clearly you've never been to a shareholder meeting. They always start with the unveiling of the guillotine

I've started looking at annual reports for school. For ****s and giggles, I checked out Time Warner's annual report for 2013. I've always thought it weird in the CEO's opening, he mainly referenced Man of Steel in the terms of being followed up by BvS.

Yeah, jobs are at stake. Not necessarily Snyders, but yes, heads are going to roll if this fails to make a profit.

If WB wanted BvS to be less divisive than Man of Steel and have more audience appeal they probably shouldn't have given Zack Snyder so much freedom to do whatever he wanted to do without oversight. Now I worry that they will learn the wrong lessons and start micromanaging these projects to death which doesn't help either.

That would be more unclassy than hilarious.

What does this film have to make in order to be profitable for Warner Bros?

I just hope this doesn't have any lasting effects on the CBM genre as a whole.

It's gonna be a bloodbath this summer. This movie may have single handedly lost the company 10 years and 10 billion dollars. It's that bad.

I was gonna go this weekend for a second time, but I got a bump in my bank account and an email with a picture of Mickey Mouse.

I think it's clear why the second weekend drop is gonna be so stiff.

Deadpool made crazy money.

Civil War is good for 1.2 billion or more.

Doc Strange will get to 600 - 700 no problem, as will XM:A.

CBMs are good.

Different sources give different breakdowns. However, no one quotes a number less than $800 million. If that's the break-even point, it would need about $880 million for a 10% return on investment, which is the absolute bottom of the barrel in terms of what the studio would be willing to accept.

Note: The traditional "double the production budget" method gives $500 million as the break-even, but that rule of thumb is and always has been extremely loose. We know enough about BvS in particular to say that $500 million isn't going to cut it.

Deadpool is one of (if not the) most financially successful superhero films ever made.

I would say "the" most at this point. With that budget? And Reynolds bankrolled a big chunk of the marketing himself

Given what we JUST saw happen with this film I wouldn't make such proclamations.

Dr Strange has to be good in order to hit those types of numbers. As of now we have no idea how good Dr Strange is as a film.

In all honesty, a day or so after seeing Batman v Superman, my excitement for Civil War (which has been ridiculously high for a while) was almost nil. It's back up a bit though.

Imagine the Snyder backlash if he single-handedly kills the entire CBM genre!

81% drop on its second Friday?! Holy crap! :wow:

Whoa, just woke up. $35m total globally for Friday????

If it was good, the movie wouldn't be dropping off a cliff like it is now. As long as there are good comic book movies, they will make money because people will want to see them. I regret paying 10 dollars to see this on opening day and told everybody else to stay away, everyone I talked to either said they had no plans on going to see it anyway because "it looked bad" or said they wouldn't go now after they heard me and so many other places saying it was bad.

If FF, Origins, Green Lantern, or ASM 2 didn't kill it, I doubt Snyder will.
