BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - - Part 14

I think it's because he wants it to knock BvS off the #1 spot.

If that's true, I don't understand why people think that way. I mean if it exceeds expectations and beats out BvS, it's not like anything earthshaking happens.

I mean, I get wanting bad movies to fail because of the messages it sends to studios, but wanting other bad movies to succeed? I don't get that part.

Now now let's not accuse him of such a thing until we have proof and let's hear his side of the story before we pull out our pitchforks.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Shame on y'all. :o

Mine, based on a time series model built around the movie's performance thus far and how that compares with the performance of two other movies (Clash of the Titans and Furious 7). I revise it every day after the totals come in and post the new predictions here.

How much variation is there on a day to day basis with your predictions? Do they generally become more accurate as the weekend approaches? I ask because I'm always interested in statistical modeling. That makes me borderline nuts. Weird, to say the least.

I noticed you had your percentages and so forth. Most people don't do that so I thought it might have been from some movie website or something.

Already at $720,829,382 WW. I think it can hit $800 million by Monday

I don't even have a pitchfork, but I do have a sawzall and a table saw. Maybe we can do some sort of Pit and Pendulum movie???

Why is that? Did you like it? I'm just curious because its reviews are even worse than the ones for BvS.

Exactly. It would fill him with glee to see that happen.

Strange way to think, isn't it?

Wasn't it established some time ago that Doctor Jones was a DC troll? I could've sworn he said other ridiculous things and wanting DC to fail a couple months before release.

When there's as few data points as there are now (one for each day after the opening day), it varies all over the damn place. Some days, the projected final gross is $285 million. Other days it's $350 million. As time goes on, it varies less, as more data gives it a clearer point to converge to.

As for the percentages, I just whipped out my handy dandy calculator. :woot:

EDIT: Although, I'm in the process of redoing the model based only on the performance of F7. I included CotT because I wanted more than a single example to base my predictions on and it was the closest thing to matching my parameters. However, the simple fact is that at the moment, F7 and BvS are two of a kind. I believe CotT is simply throwing off my accuracy. I'll be able to tell after I finish running the numbers.

Doctor Jones has been on this site almost as long as I have, and I can assure you he's no troll. He has made it clear he doesn't like the current direction of the DCEU, though, but that doesn't make him a troll.

As a DC fan, it bothers the hell out of me when people respond by calling other people "trolls". What does that even mean? That the person in question doesn't believe in what he is saying and is only trying to piss people off? How would you even attempt to prove that? It's just dumb and childish. Let the man crap on DC or Marvel. He isn't insulting anyone, as far as i can tell.

Of course, there ARE people who show up and start posting inflammatory comments just to get a rise out of people and stir up trouble. Those people are trolls. However, these days, people keep using the word "troll" to describe "that person who doesn't like the thing I like," and that's really starting to get out of hand.

If you had told me a year ago this movie wouldn't have made a billion, I would have thought you were crazy. I knew it wouldn't get great critical reception, but I assumed it would pull a Transformers.

I'm going to say $20 million. I thought Jungle Book was coming out this week but who knows, I'm hoping The Boss exceeds expectations.

Next week BVS will be dying domestically, crawling towards its short end.

You seem like someone who's hoping BvS stop making $$. Too bad it's no longer consider a financial BO bomb but more of a let down that it didn't live up to some people's expectations. It's making $$ regardless of how people feel about this movie.

It's not going to start making money until $800 million at the absolute earliest, possibly $900 million depending on how much of that money comes from overseas. In all likelihood, it's going to have to make up the difference on Blu-ray. Yeah, it'll make a profit in the end, but the fact that it couldn't do so in theaters is going to make the executives unhappy.

Batman v Superman was always going to have higher standards applied to it. Transformers is what it is and people know it.

Anything less than a billion for this movie equates to it under-performing, IMO. It was clearly meant to play in that ball field. The huge opening is proof of its potential. Had it been able to impress more of that initial audience, they would have either come back for repeat viewings or at least spread the word and this movie would be making a over a billion.
