Yes it did. It might not fit your preferred narrative but it's reality nonetheless. BvS was a huge hit among movie-goers.

Edit: It won't let me link for some reason, but here's the facts:

Yeah I think Batman will survive unscathed. Superman is the real casualty here.

I would say video games are equally as popular an entertainment medium as movies are and Batman is still dominating there.

That reminds me: we need a good Superman game.

Well any further sequels won't come close to the record thanks to dreadful word of mouth... Look at Matrix, Matrix Reloaded banked a ton of cash but sucked royally, then Matrix Revolutions came out and nobody went... The opening weekend record is deceiving, as majority of those tickets were sold before people realized movie sucked...

Largest opening weekends in history:

1 Star Wars: The Force Awakens BV $247,966,675

2 Jurassic World Uni. $208,806,270

3 Marvel's The Avengers BV $207,438,708

4 Avengers: Age of Ultron BV $191,271,109

5 Iron Man 3 BV $174,144,585

6 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 WB $169,189,427

7 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice WB $166,007,347

Batman v Superman plunged 68.9% on its second weekend, giving it the seventh-biggest second-weekend drop for any major comic book movie on record. That’s better than the 69% drops of Elektra and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the 69.7% drops of Jonah Hex and Hulk as well as the 70.7% drop of Hellboy II (ironically one of the best comic book sequels ever) and the 78% drop for Steel back in 1997. It’s just below the 67% second-weekend drop of Man of Steel and the 68.2% drop for Fantastic Four

Also, B rating on Cinemascore akin to Elektra, Catwoman and Green Lantern

You were saying? About facts?

That's the domestic gross. He's talking worldwide, in which he is correct, in this case: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/worldwideopenings.htm

Yup and that breaks my heart. I expected this film to be Superman's triumphant moment and instead he [BLACKOUT]dies[/BLACKOUT]. I mean WTF. That's why I don't see another Superman solo happening until we get a reboot.

Batman v Superman had the largest opening weekend of any superhero movie ever. It doesn't matter how much the movie cost, people came out to see this movie more than any other DC movie or Marvel movie. I think Superman and Batman's position as cultural icons are just fine.

The reason it got the largest opening weekend is because WB released the movie in every major market in the same weekend. It was good for some headlines but not much else. Most films have staggered releases where they open in different territories weekly. Had a movie like The Avengers or even Iron Man 3 been released in all major markets at once those movies would have dwarfed BvS's opening weekend.

He is going by worldwide opening and yes it broke record but it was first movie to ever release in all territories around the world at same time, so it is not a surprise it broke this record.... It's a very deceiving stat, that is the only leg he has to stand on it appears...

Thanks for that.

Some people just hate this version of Superman and Batman and just want so bad for it to fail, and grasp at straws trying to twist its massive success to look like failures. It had the largest opening weekend of any superhero movie ever, far exceeding even the most optimistic predictions, and has already made more than most other superhero movies in their total runs.

Oh but try to grab some rumor from the internet talking about how it needs to make more than the GDP of Japan to be successful. Let's just ignore that that's just an internet rumor that WB has discredited. At the end of the day a huge TON of people went to see this movie, more than most other superhero movies, and WB is fast-tracking their future DC movies and even adding more to the schedule. Things are just fine for the DCEU.

BvS was a day and date release. How is that fair or honest to compare to most other blockbusters that weren't day and date? Makes no sense

Well, I'm not arguing his case, since... it's a difficult one to argue. I'm just saying he didn't pull it out of his ass in this one specific case.

It's really the only thing WB and their diehards have...They have nothing else as it has been all crappy news since that weekend...Box office has been dreadful since that weekend.

Source tells me #BatmanvSuperman heading to 3rd wknd drop of 60% to about $20M. Cume to reach $293M after SUN. May not hit $340M.

Yep. Avengers would have had $492 mil OW

You simply can't compare the global opening weekend gross of a movie that opened in all major markets around the world at the same time to a bunch of movies that didn't.

If true this is probably the worst news it could have gotten....The movie is in freefall mode and there is no saving it...

Aaaaaand there it is. The Boss will take #1

If you add staggered earnings of avengers world wide it will easily beat B v S. Just because B v S opened WW on same day doesn't make it best ever. The comparison should be made in context.

I can't believe I live in a time where a Batman or Superman movie makes less than a R-rated Deadpool. I can't wrap my head around it.

I hope WB wraps their heads around it, and it gives them the wake up call they need about their franchise.

Just to be clear, I wasn't defending the movie. And... all that stuff you just said there... I'm gonna take a step to the side on that... I was just pointing out semantics. I'm fun at parties.

NOOOOOOPE nope nope stop right there. This is a box office thread. Take that other crap elsewhere. Wanna talk numbers? Go to town. Haterade stuff? Vamoose

I did talk about the numbers. There they are. Ignore them and twist them all you want, since you so desperately want to present this movie as a failure. But the actual numbers and the actions of WB prove otherwise.
