BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - - - Part 15

Taking MCU aside, there's only been really 2 other shared universe movies that I can tell at least in the CBM genre.

Deadpool and BvS. The X-men movies are essentially sequels and prequels with spinoff Wolverine movies. BvS goes without saying.

What about MIB and 22 Jump Street?:huh:

It's true that DC doesn't seem to be having the same success that MCU is with regard to box office numbers. As Old Guy said, I think Marvel is really focused on making comic book movies and got pretty good at it. It's a single focus rather than just part of the movie making department.

Still, I can completely understand why other studios are trying the same thing.....It made Marvel a box office juggernaut and if it works, others are going to try it. If you think about it, Star Wars is doing it too (does Disney own that too??? :o ) and I'm guessing they are going to be "fairly" successful if they make good movies......

Momoa is a funny dude though. Love what we got of Batista as Drax but I thought Momoa wouldve been great too

Yeah, but I don't want a Drax type of character for Aquaman :woot:

I want Aquaman to be resourceful and respected for his intellect; sort of the smartest guy in the room personality. I don't think Momoa is dumb, but I have a problem visualizing him as the character I want......not that the writers will necessarily agree with me.

Yeah I think with Momoa cast as Aquaman you can tell which direction they're gonna go with the character. Would love to be proven wrong though.

I wish I knew who else they were looking at for Aquaman.

I'm much more worried about their director for Flash than any of their casting choices

Yeah would agree with that. But Gadot and Momoa have more experience of acting in movies than Hemsworth and probably Huddleston did, and those 2 knocked it out of the park on their first go and have just gotten more and more comfortable in their roles since. I remember there being BIG question marks over Hemsworth in particular when he was cast.

Yes but, as I talked about before, there's a bit of a difference of being unsure of someone because he's unknown or being unsure because you've seen performances that you thought were bad.

All this reminds me of another thing, which is thinking someone is a good actor but you still don't like him. For me that's the case with Will Smith, so I'm not thrilled about him being in SS, but I'm still looking forward to it a lot and I'll probably be fine with him.

It would be interesting to know if Justice League is indeed filming right now. The studio's PR machine was quick to mention it's starting date before the release of BVS, but have since gone quiet.

Yea shocked we haven't been given a press release yet.

Have they started filming JL?

If the answer is no, then why?

The answer is probably related to the those reports.

What? As far as i know, they're already filming the movie. Maybe i'm wrong. I don't know. Also, i recently watched an interview with Zack or someone from the cast where he said "we start filming next week"

lets get this thread back on topic a bit.

Today's box office result for BvS will be historical. Because it will be the first day this movie will make under a million. I'm estimating between 600-700k for Monday and 700k for today.

Did BvS' boxoffice affect JL's production? I believe it might have.

In this age where every production is under a microscope, especially the CBMs, I am shocked we have seen no set photos.

Unless they are shooting in an indoor set with green screen much like 300 and Sin City.

Personally the best news to come out of this box office disappointment is that JL will now be helmed by George Miller.

All the talk of the cast and their acting ability is irrelevant. No matter how bad the script is, the actors won't be able to save the movie and turn the box office around. Start with a good, nay a GREAT script and work from there. The actors that have been cast are all capable, they are simply being underused.

.

It's all been conspicuously quiet, hasn't it?

Suggests there are things going on behind the scenes that WB don't want attention being drawn to.

Well they just casted Willem Dafoe as Desaad for JL

Again though same apply's to Hemsworth, he had a few small roles in movies before Thor and people were worried because he was poor in them.

Sounds about right for MON, I expect a little lower (BvS has always been doing a less than expected)

Are you saying that Chris Hemsworth is an example of good, experienced actor who cannot be compared with Momoa / Gadot ?
Hemsworth is one guy they keep bringing up, and yes, he was a doubtful gamble, IIRC, but the rest of the names here, everybody was at least known and popular, Keaton was huge, RDJ Academy award nominated (twice now). Gadot situation is comparable with Hemsworth, she hasn't done anything yet to inspire confidence. Momoa pretty much has been terrible so far (his most memorable is GoT, just standing there, showing muscle)

I am sure that the WB doesn't want to disclose everything to the public, but don't you think they are quiet right now so that the attention stays on BvS, which is still in theaters as we speak (at least until CA:CW comes out)? I am willing to bet that some news may come out about a week before May 6th (actually it already has).

Hate ir or love it but WB are not changing directors for JL 1 that is certain.

I actually saw a couple of his movies and he wasn't that bad. The movies weren't great (OK though I guess), but nothing along the lines that I've seen from Momoa. Maybe he just hasn't had the opportunity and he'll be fine, but from the early Cash and Getaway, Chris wasn't nearly as bad as Momoa has been (maybe just the roles, I don't know....). Not bad in his short ST role either.

Well personally I haven't seen Momoa in everything he has done. But when I have seen him I thought he was quite good.

That's fine if you thought that way about Hemsworth, but believe me, people at the time were very worried about him being able to pull off Thor. I even remember a rumour that Anthony Hopkins walked off set because Hemsworths acting was sub par. I don't believe it for a second but that shows you the mind set when he was cast.

It's finally going to die now. My God, under a million in less than four weeks is just abysmal.

Not to salt any wounds but BvS, on its fourth Monday, made less than Ant-Man did on its fifth. By the way, Ant-Man opened to $109M less than BvS.

So it looks like BvS has at best $20M left domestically and thus is likely to finish just ahead of Shrek the Third ($323M) and behind Forrest Gump ($330M, with rerelease), good for 42nd all-time domestic (not adjusted for inflation). Maybe it will top Forrest and finish just behind Guardians of the Galaxy ($333M). So in addition to Batman, it had Superman and Wonder Woman but grossed ~$200M less than TDK and ~$120M less than TDKR (both domestically). Despite four years of massive overseas market growth (not to mention PLF screens), BvS will gross $100M less internationally than TDKR.
