BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - - - Part 15

Does anyone know how BvS's box office compares to TASM2? I feel like the two films - in terms of what they were intended to achieve for their respective companies - are very similar products.

BvS is going to finish much higher domestically (TASM2 did $203M while BvS is looking at $330-340M) and slightly higher internationally ($506M for TASM2, $520-530M for BvS). With a $255M production and $180-190M marketing budget for TASM2, there's a reason we are getting Homecoming instead of TASM3.

I'd say at least 500 if not more.

I'd say lots more (esp if I owned a theater) BvS made less than Boss over the weekend and Monday with hundreds of less screens. Theaters will be dropping BvS screenings faster than C Lee drops banned users trying to sneak back into the Hype.

So how many theaters do we think BvS will lose this weekend (or are there already figures)? This past weekend it was in 4,201, down only 154. Per BOM, JB will be in 3700, Barbershop in 2600+, and Criminal in 2500+. Also you have holdovers The Boss (3400) and HH (3000) that won’t lose theaters since its their second weekend.

Normally around this point superhero flicks shed 600-800 theaters unless they have good legs (which obviously BvS doesn’t). On the other hand, BvS did pull $5696 per theater last weekend. So what do you think?

That $5696 is split between 3 days. 2 of them were about $1500 (Fri/Sun) and 1 day was about $2600 (Sat).

You prolly knew that, but some people might not have and it could be kind of confusing.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN took in $1.87M on Tuesday and has grossed $299.96M to date domestically. #BatmanVSuperman

Reaching 300M tomorrow will land them the #19 spot in fastest to 300M ranking, below Spider-Man 2 (19 days), over Furious 7 (20 days with 300.5)

They will pass $300mil today. One last chance for WB to spin a hurrah I guess. Cant see there being much else to come once Jungle Book lands.

I have a feeling they'll be re-releasing the film with the Ultimate Cut to theaters sometime later this year or maybe before JL1.

Probably, but with such bad reception (bad reviews and WOM), I can't see them doing much. Fans of the movie will love to see it, some might be interested, but most people would feel like a chore to re watch a movie like this.

Honestly, they would have to be really smart about it. I rather pay the $13 and watch it in the theater again then pay the $25 to buy the blu-ray. Are they going to be costing themselves more money?

The cost of advertising a rerelease would be more than they could ever realistically expect to get from it at the Box Office.

I don't think this is just going to stop making money once JB comes out. But of course it's going to take a big hit.

I'm thinking it loses at least 500-1000 screens this weekend. And about 2000 more when a CW hits

So they can remind everyone just before JL comes out that it was pretty much panned by the critics and, after the initial weekend, by the public? I can't see how that would help anything or why they would do that, but, hey, it's WB and maybe they have their own way of doing things. Maybe they think another cut would be better, but if you got bumped in the 3rd week by Boss, I would think you'd just let sleeping dogs lie.

EDIT: From the Director who brought you Batman vs Superman, ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for Zack Snyder and Justice League Part 1!!!!!

It's going to take a huge hit IMO. I could see it dropping in the 65% range or so and going well below 10M. After that, it'll be at a crawl. Huntsman (which sounds rather bad) will open the next week and even if it's terrible, it will take more people away from BvS. Honestly, if it is around 310M by the end of this weekend, I don't see it getting to 330M DOM.

I just don't see how or why. The demand clearly isn't there.

I will say, the true sign of how happy a studio is with a movie's gross is what they do afterwards. I wonder what the plans for a Hana-Barbera cinematic universe says about WB?

Jungle Book arrives on Friday. The final nail in the coffin for this movie.

It will probably push the drop back over 50%.

Back over? The drop was about 55% last week when it went up against a Boss that was pretty much panned and didn't drop any screenings. This week, it's going against a movie that has been almost universally praised and on top of that it's losing basically all of its premium screenings plus a lot of non-premium showings.

I'd say "back over" (ie anywhere in the ballpark of) 50% is wildly optimistic. It's "always" had 50%+ drops.

In theory, once it starts getting this low, it should start having smaller drops. But, BvS is an overachiever in terms of drops.

That's true, but everything lined up for it during week 3. I just can't see week 4 (where everything seems to be lining up against it) being any kinder.

We shall see, huh? Right now, I think easily in excess of 60%. Go back and check my record on predictions if you don't believe me.....it's ABYSMAL. :woot:

Is should be around 800m worldwide or very close to it.

TASM2: $91M OW, $202M DOM, $506M INT, $708M WW, $230M Budget
BvS: $166M OW, $340M DOM (EST), $520M (EST) INT, $860M WW (EST), $250M Budget

Not really comparable.

However, Spider-man is just one huge superhero while BvS has 2 HUGE superheroes plus Wonder Woman.
