BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - - - - Part 15

Unfortunately for WB, they don't even have $300 mil to fall back on and brag about, as it's only at $296 mil at this point.

Anybody know if JL has started shooting yet? If so I wonder if WB has somebody there to supervise Snyder this time. Very few studios would let the same director back after his movie failed this badly at the box office. And by fail I mean severe disappointment.

I know most of us will look at the numbers and think "gee the boss just narrowly beat BvS."

Thing is, it opened in close to 700 less theatres and averaged more than $1000 more per theatre.

Taking those two things into account, when we plug in that per theatre average, and make all things equal, it tells us another story.

The Boss would have made $27.8M if it was released in as many theatres as BvS, which made $23.4M from over 4000 screens. Something to think about.

The Boss won narrowly, Box office.com tweet confirms: 23.59 vs 23.36.

If I was BvS i'd demand a recount. I wouldn't trust those florida numbers.

Yeah, but you have to factor in the fact that not only did Marvel pay off the critics to trash BvS, but they also bought over $500,000 in tickets to Boss along with popcorn/soda vouchers. I can't tell you where I got my information, but it was from a reliable source in the movie industry so don't ask me for a cite. It's just true. Believe me because I don't lie. Ever. I've never lied. So believe me.

We were talking earlier about whether or not BvS will make the top 10 and I think we were mixing apples and oranges. DOM or WW? Beasts, as I said, has a better chance WW than DOM and DS probably would have to click on all cylinders to get anywhere close to BvS (DOM or WW). I had forgotten that the latter only had a couple of weeks before Beasts was released so that make it even less likely.

Let me ask this, do people think BvS will be higher up in the top 10 WW or DOM? I think that's kind of a tricky question. Probably because i just thought of it now in order to make sure that I didn't get killed by the Mods.

Yeah, but Boss was in all of those premium theaters that charge more per seat because it's such a visual spectacle. :o

I think BvS will struggle to crack the top 10 WW, especially if Doc Strange and Moana resonate with the audience. Top 5 is pretty much set WW with:

1) Rogue One

2) Civil War

3) Finding Dory

4) Beasts

5) Zootopia.

I heard people bought tickets to The Boss but went to see BvS instead. So really you should take, like, 8 million off the Boss and put it towards BvS.

So, any estimates for Monday? How much are we thinking is decent? 1.7M? (F7 weekend 3 to monday multiplier)

If you would have asked me 1 month ago I would have bet $100 that BvS would end up in the top 3. $200 that it would have ended up in the top 5. probably $1,000 that it would have ended up in the top 10... Just wow, still lost for words.

Would've made the same bet

what a time to be alive

No Jungle Book?

Yeah I was figuring $1.5-2M. Whatever the number is I doubt WB will be in a hurry to tell anyone.

and X-men Apocalypse

Possibly, but the DOFP didn't even surpass TLS and it took Deadpool to finally unseat as the highest domestic total. WW, Both Deadpool and DOFP reached over 700M WW but I wouldn't necessarily say that X: A was a lock to reach $300 domestically.

F7 did $2.02M on the comparable Monday so that is the high-water mark. On the flip side, anything down around $1.6M (20% less) would be pretty bad as heretofore BvS has stayed within 12% of F7's weekdays.

I think it is rather unlikely that XMA crosses $300M domestically, let alone beats BvS. A finish somewhere around $250M give or take $25M sounds about right to me. That would still probably put XMA somewhere in the top 10 domestically.

Lack of Wolverine is gonna keep it from outgrossing DOFP IMO.

Ignore him. He doesn't know what the hell he is talking about.

It's pretty clear to me that it's going to depend on how Apocalypse is received (both by critics, which sometimes unfortunately, do have an effect and by fans) whether or not it can get to the BvS BO level. If it does, it would be a yuge accomplishment.

TLS had the advantage of following 2 pretty good, popular movies. Unfortunately, even though it had good BO numbers, it started the X-Men slide. FC and DoFP have helped bring a good name back. How much these help Apocalypse remains to be seen.

If it's a good movie, it will do fine. I fear for the next DC installment with Batman or Supes for the same reason FC didn't get a fair BO break; it's following a movie (or two) that was NOT well received.

I'm not betting on Alice in Wonderland to be anything spectacular quality wise but it'll hurt Apocalypse especially with luke warm reviews.

So, are you taking the 27 mil out of BvS's opening weekend?

As for Apocalypse, the competition alone will keep it from beating BvS. Apocalypse will be fighting to keep screens from day 1.

I noted that earlier. Apocalypse has a very tough road. Unfortunate. If it's well received, however, it will move the franchise forward whether or not the BO is great.

Thursday previews begin at 7:30 - 8. It's not the whole day.

The movie seems to be failing in almost every way. I legitimately never expected this to happen. In terms of box office, it appears to be underperforming, not failing, so I guess there's that.
