BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - Part 2

I just hope that April is clear of any major competition in China for BvS.

Shockingly Man of Steel was knocked out of 2nd place by a Chinese film called Tiny Times which itself bombed at just $77 million but still hurt MoS in China.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/china/?yr=2013&wk=26&p=new

60M for MoS and 77M for Tiny Times (which is China's Twilight/Hunger Games like movie) was not "bombing" in 2013. It was perfectly in sync with the market. The market in 2013 in China was 1.3B dollars. This year, every single month has grossed more than 1B in China and the market has grown 40% each year since then.

Next year again, the market is predicted to grow at 20% or more (growth slows as more and more areas have screens since you can't add more).

Next thing you know the Justice League fights in Hong Kong. :oldrazz:

I think it approaches 900 million. Is everyone really freaking out if we don't hit the 1 billion? I don't think it needs to. I'd put more stock into JL1 hitting the billion mark. Though as long as it is good and does well enough for more movies I'm happy :o

Under a billion for Batman v Superman is a bad joke Kent, this films surpassing a billion easily....

It doesn't need to but to just be profitable after its production costs and marketing as in breaking even, it's going to need to gross a lot.

I read Spectre needed to cross 650 million WW just to break into profitability for the studio.

Also I'm not convinced a JL film would necessarily outperform this film. Batman and Superman and to a lesser extent WW are DC's big guns they are the big names. Is adding lesser known characters like Cyborg or even Flash going to make a huge difference in getting people who didn't go see BvS?

If BvS fails to reach a billion that's essentially capping the limit of all up-coming DCCU films.

Exactly, on paper this film should be a behemoth, the final product on the other still needs to break box office records, Marvel has had some amazing success over the years

A1: $1.5b

IM3: $1.2b

AOU: $1.4b

DC needs some box office smashes too, and BvS is definitely one of them, honestly i'll be damned if it doesn't go past a billion. :csad:

After careful consideration and research of previous BO takings, I've come to the conclusion that BvS will make a million billion dollars.

If it doesn't at least match the grosses of TDKR or TDK, I'm honestly thinking WB might feel like they made a mistake not trying to continue on the Nolan series in someway?

There is a lot riding on this film for WB. I'm pretty sure it will do well but I can only imagine the costs put into it by WB.

The main reason we even have BvS instead of MoS 2 is almost certainly because WB was somewhat disappointed with its grosses.

Let's see $1 million times $1 billion should equal.....

Holy Moly 1 quadrillion! (1,000,000,000000,000) :wow:

Now were talking! :awesome:

It's just basic arithmetic. I checked.

Anything below a Zodzillion dollars and it's a fail in my book. :cmad:

Having Batman and Wonder Woman in this film fighting doomsday should be a sure fire way of surpassing a billion.

Yet some folks still believe that this wont go past a billion, i mean its got everything you need.

- Insane hype

- opening on holiday weekend

- weeks of no competition

Hell that's what every billion dollar film this year had and should equal past a billion for BvS yet folks still arent convinced. :/

That's the mystery i'm trying too solve here honestly. :funny:

Yeah I do think it will make at least a billion but that's arguably its baseline.

It making less than that would honestly be a sign the film is not being well received and in that case it probably isn't a great film in the first place.

Because like you stated it should have everything going for a billion+ picture.

Yep, the only way i see this film not surpassing $1 billion worldwide in its lifetime with no competition, a holiday release and tons of hype is if it's catwoman bad.... or worse FFINO bad. :/

With a budget of over $400 million, I have to wonder where WB's expectations are at. I don't think they'll be happy if this film gets any less than 1.5 billion.

If it has a ~$175M domestic opening weekend with only a ~55% drop the 2nd weekend, I'll be happy.

Well, I'll be happy no matter what, as long as it's fun, but in order to deal with the insufferable naysayers on social media, I want this film to be a huge success.

The budget has never been confirmed by any source. The only budget source we have is 200M+ which we already knew: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/superman-batman-dcs-real-battle-792190

If I had to guess, WB will claim a landing budget of around 220M or so like most of their other superhero tentpoles. Which would put the line of profitability at 600M give or take a few. MoS did just fine grossing 670M on a 225M budget for a tidy profit before it even hit home video.

So, yeah, let's stop parroting an unsourced budget figure as the truth until we get an official figure on the week of release.

So making 3x the budget would be a failure at 1.2B? (IM3 numbers) No chance, the studio would be ecstatic.

Over $1 billion would be amazing, what are you talking about???

400mil budget? Where did that crap come from?

No idea, hell he tried to start a Marvel vs DC talk earlier by talking about the civil war trailer views compared the BvS one.

Heh...I don't read anything Forbes.

I think that's combining budget and marketing. While I doubt 200 million has been spent on marketing, marketing costs do come into the figure when a film tries to break into profitability.

I'm quite sure this films production budget is greater than MoS and the same goes for its marketing costs.

Like I mentioned WB won't be happy if it doesn't cross 1 billion. I think anything over that though is gravy.
