I'm on Team Cap.

That story smells too much like Warner PR Jedis working their magic. They try to disqualify the critics.

It is what it is, I understand Momoa or Ray Fisher responding to critics for ripping something they are in, even if it looks thin-skinned, but when Variety publishes a story like that I just think they are scratching the studios back so they can gets scoops over Deadline in the future. It's just throwing fuel on the fire.

Oh, we're back to disrespecting people that think differently about the movie again? Classy.

the article doesn't really defend the film so much as suggest the critics went into a feeding frenzy and were over the top in their bike. I agree. It is certainly better than a quick browse through rt would make person think. While I don't think bad reviews drew people to the movie there was at least one guy in my second viewing who said he missed seeing MoS on the big screen because of the critical response but loved it when he saw it on HBO. He said that he wasn't going to let that happen again.

Who knows, maybe critics are just cranky about CBMs right now and will do the same to.CW, albeit to a lesser degree. Doubtful, but you never know.

I respect the ones that have something negative to say and it be meaningful. Criticism such as using two actors to play Bruce Wayne's dad is just a daft criticism by somebody that was either blind or a really confused individual.

Also, there's criticism that Lois Lane had to be psychic for her to know what to do in the last act. For some reason, a journalist with more than half a brain can't be given the credit to think a situation through...

Not all criticism is bad, but reading a good portion of the RT critics...I'm not sure they watched the movie with their eyes open...let alone their minds open.

Not likely. I actually read the reviews to BvS and then read what they said about Age of Ultron. Critics are VERY forgiving to Marvel films. Many skeptics will say, they aren't Marvel biased and there is no conspiracy, but some of these critics actually outright say they can forgive Marvel more or just outright say, don't bother with DC and just watch Marvel. Whatever the case, you'll see a lot of Age of Ultron reviews that say..."There are flaws, but the flaws can be forgiven because they kept teasing Thor." The articles says critics have become less than professional. Watch the movie and read the reviews to make up your own mind.

I saw flaws in BvS. I saw fire coming from the eyes of some critics.

Nothing big is coming out next weekend except maybe Midnight Special.

Oh it's obvious after you read the over the top poison and hypocrisy coming from there reviews. It's quite comical and sad actually that "pro critics" would act like this and talk out of both sides of there mouths like that so blatantly.

This from Deadline:

"The reviews did not matter at all,” an exec told me this morning. “Every market is over-performing.” Despite a critical drubbing in the U.S. and many mixed notices overseas, fans turned out to see Affleck essay the Batsuit for the first time and Cavill return as the son of Jor-El. A lot of them also evidently wanted to catch a glimpse of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman; she gets her own movie next summer. The Easter frame was a smart play by WB to stake out a few unfettered weeks. Says WB’s Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, “Our excellent date allows us to take advantage of the spring holidays with a five-week window until the next superhero film. Based on the strong word of mouth by fans we can look forward to a long and prosperous run.”

On 945 IMAX screens globally, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent powered up a $36M weekend for the best opening outside the summer and Christmas periods, as well as the largest March opening ever for the large format company. It’s the 3rd strongest worldwide start ever behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($47.5M) and Jurassic World ($44.1M). China accounted for $7M out of $18M offshore on 557 screens. In both North America and China, IMAX locations occupied nine of the top 10 engagements, a first for the company. Saturday’s $5.4M provided the 2nd biggest single-day international gross ever.

In individual markets on all movie screens, China leads with $57.3M from approximately 16,000. That’s not far off the lifetime of Man Of Steel at $63M and tops the entire run of Dark Knight Rises, albeit in a market that has seen massive growth since those films released.

The UK came in next with over 70% of the Top 5 market and an estimated $21.9M on 1,701 screens for the biggest March opening of all time and the best of 2016. If sneaks were excluded, this would be the top superhero start ever in the UK (Avengers: Age Of Ultron retains that distinction.) After a sunny Friday, execs and exhibs are doing a happy dance over the rain that moved into London over the weekend.

Releasing on over 4,300 screens, Mexico debuted to $18.6M. That’s the biggest WB opening of all time, biggest March opener ever and the tops for 2016.

Yep! Good post.

You got a link to those specific reviews? Now I'm really curious...

I don't know about that. Some of these critics made some important points.

1. First of all, Snyder used too many Oscar winners.

2. The film is too long with too many characters. Age of Ultron was forgiven because it had heroes teasing each other.

3. Snyder made a confusingly messy film. Why show a seen in which Bruce Wayne's father dies and then follow it up with another scene with Bruce Wayne's father being alive, in the present, played by a different actor?

This gives me a ton of faith in the critics. They were able to see the glaring holes. I don't think Bruce's father being alive was a nitpick, but a truly perceptive observation...even though I didn't see it in my viewing.

1. So what?
2. It had no more characters than MoS did with similar screen times.
3. WTF are you on about? The next scene is him talking to an employee at his office over the phone during the attack on Metropolis.

Nothing big is coming out next weekend except maybe Midnight Special.

These next two weeks I think the biggest movies are 'Gods not Dead 2'(bring in the faith crowd), 'Hardcore Henry'(getting good reviews, but not sure if people interested in a first person action movie), and that Melissa Mcarthy comedy(trailers haven't been that funny to me at least).

I don't think he was being serious...

The idea that critics tearing it a new one made people go see the movie is ridiculous and unfounded. If that were the case FFINO and Green Lantern would have been a rousing success. People are seeing it because it's Batman and Superman.

lol agreed. Fantastic four would have made fortune if that how it works.

Really gratifying to see BvS racked up $424 million WW. An excellent starting point & definitely proves $1 billion was always still on the table.

Not to be a broken record but it is a full five days after the reviews started hitting and BvS still makes up 2/3 of movietickets.com sales and has three of the top five spots on fandango pulse. The fact that the reviews are being debated/criticized in the industry media might help fuel a widespread "seeing it for my self" reaction that helps sustain the film through the next couple of weeks. While we can't assume a strong hold next weekend I think it is a bit premature to say it will have a 70% drop off especially with no major competition for the next couple of weeks.

Batman v Superman can still reach 1 Billion. Also seeing it for a third time next Friday! :woot:

I'm going to go for my second viewing either this coming Friday or Saturday. I'm as pumped as you are. :woot:

And yes, $1 billion was always still on the table for BvS. My high end projection of $1.7 billion may not exactly come to pass, but it can still reach around $1.1-$1.4 billion, which is still just as awesome.

Wait wait wait, now people are saying the negative critic reactions are making people want to see the film? Just like they did with F4 right?

Thing is, Fantastic Four as a property doesn't compare to any of the trinity, so the fact that it got bad reviews on top of already not being as popular as their contemporaries was enough to keep people away.

BvS has characters infinitely more popular & that general audiences actually know about on some basic level so it sparks a different type of chain reaction.

At least that's my theory...general audiences just don't seem to care at all for F4 as of now.
