Normally I wouldn't agree with Kid , but this time I'm going to .. sort of. I think Good movies DESERVE things just like bad movies Deserve as well. A good movie does indeed deserve a big box office because a quality film was made.

Yes, but I was just making the point that TDK isn't the only quality film out this year.

But it IS the only film (as I mentioned in my first post) to have the most hands-on participation and interaction with it's FANS.

What other film has created virals to the extent that this film has?
Not even Cloverfield -- which survived on it's virals because no one knew what the hell it was going to be about -- didn't bag this much of a punch.

Which is why it DESERVES more than your standard "cool poster, cool clips, cool SFX" type of movie.

I'm sorry but I'm not following your logic. So this movie deserves great box office because the marketing department has released a gazillion little websites for it's raging fans?
What if Iron Man had done the same?

^Then it would have done a trillion dollars at the Box Office. Simple as that.

Yes, because look at all the work they have put into those gazillion little websites.

The Gotham Times?
Gotham City News?
Gotham Police Department?
Gotham Pizzeria?
Whysoserious.com?

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but that's all at the top of my head.
But all the games and scavanger hunts fans got together for and all the codes that had to be broken and the emails and texts coming from the Joker and now the fake news programming with Anthony Michael Hall....etc etc etc....The list goes on and on (which is my whole point).

If Iron Man had done the same then I wouldn't have the opinion that its a "cool clip, cool poster, cool SFX" type of movie walking in.
Anddddd.....That's exactly what it turned out to be.
I would have a much fonder respect for the creativity backing the film up.
What did they do to really push Iron Man?
Not much.
NOTHING compared to TDK.
And it made $100 million in its opening weekend.

Which is why all that work and effort should pay off for TDK and if it doesn't then I'll be very disapointed.
Why should a film make so much money when all it did was release posters, clips, and trailers....When the other film went all out making it's story a part of our world with endless virals and fan participation and yada yada yada -- and it ends up making less money?

Do you not think it should be just as deserving if not more with everything they have given fans and all they've put into the film?

When you go to the video store and see 2 dvd's of your favorite movie, which one are you going to buy -- the single disc or the 2 disc ultimate edition with extended scenes and 4546467982 bonus features and blah blah blah?
Sure the 2 disc version may be a tad bit pricier BUT in your head you are thinking "But It's Worth It!".
And indeed it is because not only are you getting more, they worked harder to give you more.
In the end you leave with a much bigger smile on your face.

That is why The Dark Knight deserves more.
Because not only does the quality of the film look superb, but the forces behind it are pushing it in very creative and fan-participating ways, unlike other films that I can think of.
They are all working that much harder to give us a better film and experience.

I highly, HIGHLY doubt if TDK makes over 100 million OW any of you's will say "...But it didn't deserve it!".

It seems WB is working it to the bone with this film, and I think they should get the credit they are due.

Yes DESERVES, because of all the human beings who put forth all the hard work and effort to make this film better than the rest.
And by putting forth all that hard work and creativity, that is what will put "everyone else" in those seats come July 18th.

See how that works?
Moving right along....

"These audiences DESERVE a better class of blockbuster... and I'm gonna give it to 'em.

I'm a man of my woooord."

Yeah, I guess you're right.
It would never work because quite frankly, there's nothing interesting about Iron Man.
There's no meat; there's no weight to his character.
I still don't know his almighty "purpose".
You're right though, and I agree.
A viral parade for Iron Man is un-needed because there would be nothing to viral about.
People wanted to see Robert Downey Junior in a superhero film.
And that's what they got :D

But you still haven't answered my question, so i'll ask it for the third time now :

How much do you think TIH will make opening weekend?

Yes, because look at all the work they have put into those gazillion little websites.

Um, I guess. But honestly, the only factor that should determine how much a film deserves at the box office is it's quality...Not the marketing department releasing a website called "Gotham Pizzeria." I mean, those marketing guys are great with all these viral stuff they come up with (I'm sure, I don't follow it) but that's their job.

This movie will deserve to make a lot of money because it's going to be great (I hope) not because they released a bunch of stuff on the internet.

So basically what you are saying is; the larger studio (WB), automatically DESERVES to make more money than the smaller studio (Marvel), simply because they have more money to throw around?

No, creativity.
You missed the whole point.
I don't get what's so hard to understand?

I never said WB deserves to make more money because they HAVE more money, simply The Dark Knight should have no problem making $100 million or more OW and deserves nothing LESS with the quality being put into the making of the film and it's undeniably creative marketing stragedy.

Would you not be disappointed to see this film not make $100 million or more OW after all WB has done to push this film?
The reason you would be disappointed is because of all the reason I've been stating.

If after all I've said anyone can't understand the concept of coming out on top because more effort was put into a film and it's marketing -- a **** load more -- then there's not much more to say, really.

But the late Captain is right: WB has more money to throw around and pump into it's markteting department than Marvel, or other smaller studios, have. And you have been stating that this film deserves great BO because of it's great marketing, right? Now you actually mention the quality of the film as well...And we can all agree on that. Based on it's quality it's deserving of money, of course. I'm sure TDK will be great and will be a huge hit. I just don't agree that because of the marketing this movie deserves to make more money than the other summer releases.

See this?
I already own Batman Begins, but THIS deserves my money because look at the quality that was put into it and look what comes with it!
Ooohhhhh!

I missed the point the first time around I guess because now I regret agreeing with you. The only thing that should matter is the quality of the film. Cloverfield went crazy with viral stuff as well, but that movie was terrible. It definitely doesn't deserve a bunch of money. Hell it didn't even deserve whtat it got.

That looks F***ing awesome when's that coming out?
and what the guy is saying
WB is going all out for its fans
and you know what they do deserve to make a hell load cause these viral sites shows comercials trailers have drawn in every one when people are running around going on scavenger hunts getting you into the story Damn I know i will watch the movie 5 times over hell ive seen GCN 3 times already and that's just a small sample of what where going to get in the movie so yeah I agree TDK deserves a hell load of money and if it lives up to are expectations then theres no reason at all to make over 300 mil
