I'm sorry but I'm not following your logic. So this movie deserves great box office because the marketing department has released a gazillion little websites for it's raging fans?
What if Iron Man had done the same?
Yes, because look at all the work they have put into those gazillion little websites.
The Gotham Times?
Gotham City News?
Gotham Police Department?
Gotham Pizzeria?
Whysoserious.com?
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but that's all at the top of my head.
But all the games and scavanger hunts fans got together for and all the codes that had to be broken and the emails and texts coming from the Joker and now the fake news programming with Anthony Michael Hall....etc etc etc....The list goes on and on (which is my whole point).
If Iron Man had done the same then I wouldn't have the opinion that its a "cool clip, cool poster, cool SFX" type of movie walking in.
Anddddd.....That's exactly what it turned out to be.
I would have a much fonder respect for the creativity backing the film up.
What did they do to really push Iron Man?
Not much.
NOTHING compared to TDK.
And it made $100 million in its opening weekend.
Which is why all that work and effort should pay off for TDK and if it doesn't then I'll be very disapointed.
Why should a film make so much money when all it did was release posters, clips, and trailers....When the other film went all out making it's story a part of our world with endless virals and fan participation and yada yada yada -- and it ends up making less money?
Do you not think it should be just as deserving if not more with everything they have given fans and all they've put into the film?
When you go to the video store and see 2 dvd's of your favorite movie, which one are you going to buy -- the single disc or the 2 disc ultimate edition with extended scenes and 4546467982 bonus features and blah blah blah?
Sure the 2 disc version may be a tad bit pricier BUT in your head you are thinking "But It's Worth It!".
And indeed it is because not only are you getting more, they worked harder to give you more.
In the end you leave with a much bigger smile on your face.
That is why The Dark Knight deserves more.
Because not only does the quality of the film look superb, but the forces behind it are pushing it in very creative and fan-participating ways, unlike other films that I can think of.
They are all working that much harder to give us a better film and experience.
I highly, HIGHLY doubt if TDK makes over 100 million OW any of you's will say "...But it didn't deserve it!".
It seems WB is working it to the bone with this film, and I think they should get the credit they are due.
