but seriously. does batman have time to worry about which way his ears point, or how much jaw is revealed by the cowl or how doofy the cape clasps look? no. only if it's really diminishing his ability to fight crime in some capacity. when i said that statement above... i meant it

One thing i've noticed in all the batman movies, is that the material used in the cowl is rubber. this is not a problem, it's great. However the neck piece is thick rubber as well. this is the problem. When the rubber is too thick batman can't move his neck, so to compensate he usually moves his whole upper body. They have to find a way for him to be able to have articulate motion in his neck. In the comics that is why batman neck part is thin and has no armor, so he can move, This is mentioned in Batman: Dark Victory. He will only wear neckbrace and other such devices under certain circumstances.

But a huge part of the suit is about the way it looks (i.e. purely aesthetic), and HE's the one who designed it in the first place, so he obviously does care and he obviously had time to worry about it when he made it.

Unfortunately, he has poor design sense - hopefully his taste will have improved by the sequel.

maybe to the fans. no matter how much you argue, batman will never care as much as the fans do about the suit, as long as it's functional and meets the needs (and the begins suit does and has).

my point is that batman probably wouldn't think to himself between this movie and the next "gee, these ears really don't do it for me. i'd really like them to point straight up instead of forward."

The Bat-suit can be done a hundred different ways and still look cool and work. It boils down to more a matter of personal stylistic preferences. I really like the Begins suit but, of course, I would like to change "a few" things to make it more to my liking. However, Nolan has done the Batman justice and should stick with the same basic look. My relatively minor quibbles have to do with the ears, mouth opening, symbol and clasps.
