not surprised. JL has been the plan all along. wf made the most sense being next in the line up.
Having a plan that JL will exist doesn't mean they have a good plan for how to actually make it happen. They have tried to make JL for years now and it has gone nowhere for a reason. They aren't good at this.

Of course Ben Affleck doesn't top Christian Bale for me. Christian Bale was one of my favourite actors before he was cast as Batman, and remains one of my favourites now that he's finished. I don't think anyone was going to match Bale for me. But I do have a lot of time for Ben Affleck, and am fine with his casting in the role.

I want to see affleck buffed up and ripped.

At the end of the day im glad its not gosling, hammer, hamm, JGL, Brolin and finally it puts to rest the Bale might come back talk.

Ben Affleck is batman. Get into shape son i know you have the acting chops but physically i need to see this dude in shape. In alot better shape than he was as pudgy DD.

I agree that they don't have a track record but this new universe starts with MOS. However I am willing to bet that if WB announced a slate of DC comic book movies people would still not believe them.
And that is their fault. They are the ones who have been messing around for years.

Whats odd to me is that this sort of vitriol was easy to predict. If you'd asked me what the reaction would be after an Affleck announcement, this is exactly what I'd have predicted. So why go this route? Why make such a universally panned decision knowing that? Were they just that oblivious? Surely not. Or else this movie is in deep trouble. I mean, Ben probably didn't want to do a superhero movie because even he knew what the reaction would be. They must have something up their sleeve. The story and vision for this movie must be something special, to have went such an oddball route and then to have actually sold Ben on this.
My thinking is, he may get to help with the story, he gets his own solo batfilm, and prolly directs ( and stars ) in JL.

I think WB and Snyder are probally lying when they claim they had been planning a batman and superman film as followup to man of steel since early this year.

I think its more likely they had two plans. One if MOS was huge (800 million) and well received and a backup plan if not. I don't think they were lying and I think this is simply the back up plan as it didn't turn out as well as they hoped.

The HR article says Cavill can't carry a tentpole franchise on his own and that is why they are bringing in Affleck. If that is true then Cavill may be a bit worried now.

Why have Affleck do JL? The whole point is for it to look spectacular. Snyder's Superman, Diana and Flash would be worth the price of admission.

^ I think if W/F works, then MOS2 (the real sequel) will get a boost from the people who have seen it. Compare TDKR to Begins, financially that is. TDKR got a TDK boost.

I love how the world knows this is such a bogus hire.
Multiple articles on Yahoo stating the farce of this hire as well as the two petitions...

Because impotent fanboy outrage has been such a great cultural barometer in the past. Like the massive online petition to get Daniel Craig removed as Bond.

...to get rid of this clown is hysterical.

That Oscar-winning, multiple award-nominated clown...

What's more funny, the bozo's we have in this forum who think this is a good Batman.

The bozos who are making a rational decision to approve based on his actual recent back catalogue? There are plenty of level-headed criticisms of the casting too, but the hysterical handwringing and doomsaying is the real bozo behaviour.

Oh well, I'll stick to watching the best Batman we'll ever see on tv or film, Jim Caviezel on POI.

And thus what credibility you had left dissolved like a petulant fart in the wind.

If Snyder ends up directing JL, it might end up being the most visually stunning CBM ever. With that said, I think it'll be too early to give him the JL gig anyways. He is an excellent director, but I think he should direct at least the first film in the new Batman reboot.

I'm a bit iffy on the idea of Affleck directing JL, he's a proven director sure but I'd like to see him test the water, see how he handles on a superhero flick first, not jump directly for the directing gig on JL, perhaps the inevitable Batman movies but not anything before that, especially if it's big as JL.

Anyone up for a sweepstake on when this guy will be banned?

Im pretty much torn on this. It doesn't get me excited like a Karl Urban announcement would, but im not disappointed like Orlando Bloom would have resulted in.

My main problems or questions are, who cast Affleck, Snyder or the studio? Did he even have to audition? And most importantly, does he have any passion at all for the character or is he doing this for the wrong reasons?

So... That rumour of Bale comming back was bulls***?

Of course it was.

They been saying since before TDKR even had a title that it would be the LAST film in that universe.

Bale's Batman was NEVER, EVER going to appear in this new series.

It just wasn't going to happen.

I am ok with Aflleck. My biggest concern is going with a 40yr old Bats...more for sequel sakes.

He is a massive comic book fan.

Absolutely. This movie is the key to everything. It could still be somewhat Superman-centric as in it starts and ends with Superman. If WB gets this right, then they'll get the much needed momentum and motivation to finally launch other properties.
