Justice League Ben Affleck IS Bruce Wayne/Batman - Part 4

I really hate this! He's damn awesome in the role. Batman must be a really tough role to play in live action because it's as if no actor is really interested in sticking around very long. Even with Bale you could see he was just chomping at the bit to be done with it.

Honestly, I simply think that the current state of what DC/Warners wants to do with Batman is probably not what he signed up for. I've read that Affleck is a huge fan of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, which was probably the kind of take he was interested in playing.
Add to that the fact that his take on the solo Batman movie didn't pan out, and you could see why he doesn't seem as enthusiastic about the role.
Which is a bummer, as I think he's great as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Despite everything, I really hope that they work this out and that he'll star in the Matt Reeves movies.

Ideally I want the Matt Reeves Batman movie to have Ben Affleck in it. I think that would be amazing. I think talks of Matt Reeve's movie spawning a trilogy is premature, because I think its wise to first see how and what he does with the first film. We dont even know if he wants to do 3 movies, or if he has enough stories for 3 movies. 3 movies means dedicating 9-10 years of his life to one franchise and that's maybe not what Reeves wants. If that's the case I want Reeves+Affleck to do ONE amazing Batman film.

If Reeves chooses to make a prequel film with a younger actor, thats fine too. Then I want Affleck to do one more film, maybe JL2 in 2020. I would have said Flashpoint ,but his role in that is nothing more than a cameo. And yes I still maintain using Flashpoint to make any changes in actor is as stupid an idea as you get.

If JL works, and is a huge success, there might be a scenario where Ben fulfills his 3 movie contract, does JL2 as his last film. JL2 where GL joins the league, and the 7 go against Darkseid. That would be amazing, while Reeves gets to make HIS Batman film with his Batman. That would be cool, because that might be a prime Batman who is maybe 30 years old.

Ahhh man It pains me to even think about Ben not being Batman.

He was probably roped into it by being told it was going to be a minimum of four films (BvS, JL 1 and 2, and The Batman). I also kind of feel like Ben's ideas where more in line with Zack Snyder's vision. He and Zack are probably exiting the DC Universe together.

That might be one of the reasons for it. Add that to the myriad of personal problems he has,I get why he would not want to be in this role for 5 more movies.

I really want to see Ben's Batman one more time. Preferably in a solo Batman movie, playing the world's greatest detective in a noir-ish setting, which is exactly what Reeves is planning to do. To have this perfect a batman, in that perfect a story, is exactly what NEEDS to happen. So I'm still holding out hope.

*sigh* :csad:

Well, that's that then. Hope Matt Reeves finds an actor that can fill the role as well as he did.

I admire your optimism.

I wouldn't count on that.

I'm not counting on it, I'm not thinking he will, I just hope they'll work it out.

That's what I think, as well.

I don't think Zack will exit completely, but likely help out with ideas in the capacity of what he did with WW. In the same way, I sense that Joss Whedon will be staying for good, and will take the reigns of JL2, especially if JL1 is well received. And the DCEU from here on out will, apart from JL2 slated way in the future, be focused on solo movies with loose connections to each other.

Actually, Bale said in an interview that it was a bit of a punch to the gut when the role of Batman was being re-cast after the Nolan trilogy.

As it stands, Affleck is my favorite Batman.
His Batman feels just like Batman from the Arkham series.
It's just perfect. I'd hate to see him get recast!

The only way I'd accept a recast, literally, is if Bruce Wayne
dies in a film and they replace the character of Batman with Dick Grayson,
Azrael or Damian Wayne; something along those lines.

It would need to be done over a series of films.
I wouldn't want them to finally have a solo Batman film with Affleck,
then just kill Bruce Wayne off by the end. It needs to be done in a series of films.

Yeah I remember that interview, and I really don't think he was being serious. Something about staring into a wall for a half hour or something? lol! Please. He never really had much enthusiasm for the part after Begins in my opinion. I think five years on since he hung up the cape he's back exactly where he wants to be in terms of his acting career. Affleck on the other hand, I think Live By Night's failure (along with his personal issues) is what put the finals nails in the coffin of his Batman tenure.

God I hope not. His reliance on bathos is just too much for me.

Its just that he fills out the suit so well, and he just LOOKS and FEELS like Batman. Anyone else now, really has a lot to live upto. He needs to be BIG and have that aura and gravitas that Affleck brought to the role.

Thats a great shot. :yay:

Still think Armie Hammer could fill the suit out just as well and deliver a Bruce/Batman close to the Arkham games. Just sayin...

Affleck has been a great Batman though, no doubt. It'll suck if he leaves the role.

he's only been in one movie and a mid credit scene not counting JL yet, crazy to think about.

its a big commitment, and if he already wants out now, then its time to move quickly and secure someone for the next 10+ years.

If they do recast, I think they need to go younger, and find an actor who is really hungry for the part instead of a guy who already has his hands in a slew of other projects. Otherwise they risk running into this same problem in a few years.

You are completely correct.

I like Ben in the role and I think he did a great job in BvS, but unfortunately this whole will-he-or-will-he-not thing is what happens when you cast an actor with such a high public profile who is also a director of his own projects. You are not going to get someone who really devotes himself to the character to the level of someone like Jackman with Logan. If Ben wants to have movie directing projects, these are going to take up more than just the shooting time, involving instead a lot of pre-production and post-production work, and that may not fit with a lengthy series of linked DC movies. You can see how the promotion work wears on him, compared to Cavill, for example, who shines in the promo stuff instead.
