Because there is nothing movie-wise that Angel being Death would make sense with.

Its hard to say because we don't know what the wing effects require, whether they are pratical or CGI so image wise it may not look very good and storm didn't appear on the EW cover either

But hey we got a fair amount of teasing for angel/archangel with concept art months ago so it seems like he was one of the things early on that singer wanted to tease

and singer tagged archangel recently

looks like one of his wing blades

Nice subtly there Singer. I like it.

Honestly, I have very low expectations because for me there is no way they're giving him the character development I think he deserves with this transformation storyline.

Well it is kind of disheartening if they gave him the Cyclops treatment. He's worth more than that to the story line. Plus he's a transitional character. I don't understand why they would cut back his part again.

It's such a shame because the few lines Bishop has in the Rogue Cut gives him such an interesting personalilty.

I thought that was pretty cool too. Singer should have kept that whole scene actually. It added depth to the story besides all the staunch nodding the characters normally do.

The thing is we're not even sure there will be another X-Men film about the younger cast after this one so this might be Ben's only appearance as Angel.

And Ben is a beautiful guy but there are hundreds like him in Hollywood right now and hundreds more keep showing up every year, it's an industry that is very hard to keep being a part of for too long nowadays. This is why even big movie stars move on to television, it gives them a steady job.

And this is why almost everyone wants to be a part of the Marvel or DC movie universes because this is the closest the movies get to make you be a part of serialized television, in the movies it helps you keep being inside the industry for a long time.

If you're talking about blond, fit, blue-eyed, All-American (even though he's a Brit) then yes that's true. But unless Ben stands out with what he's given, I don't see him falling from the wayside of actors that look like him. He might be only known for this but since we don't know what kind of actor he is, his door may open to other projects besides X.

How do you make an X-Men Apocalypse movie, decide to have Archangel as one of the Horsemen, and not make him the main one (Death)?

To me, if that is the case (which it appears to be), it's a travesty.

The moment I heard that Mags (and Storm for that matter) are Horsemen, and that it's not a situation of being transformed/mind altered, as it is Apocalypse being someone who can convince people to so his bidding (or however it was explained), I started having major concerns for this film.

To me, Archangel as the Horseman Death is where the focus should be, as far as the Horsemen, but everyone has to know that Erik will likely steal the Horseman spotlight!

Even if Archangel is the Horseman Death... he has yet to interact with the First Class characters and possibly the new younger-versions in this film to make an emotional impact when he finally becomes the Archangel. He is probably just gonna appear as a stranger to the X-Men when the X-Men first meet him.

This is what I was saying... you put Archangel in X-Men: Apocalypse right away, without building up Angel as part of the X-Men and you probably wouldn't get the Archangel story-arc from the comics. He maybe the Archangel with the metal wings and be called "Death" but without an emotional connection to the team, he's nothing too special as a horseman.

And I remember, you were insisting before, that Archangel should be in this film no matter just because of Apocalypse.

Exactly.

There's no way Magneto or Storm will take a backseat to Archangel nor will they be equals, especially when Magneto's one of the main protagonists, and Storm is said to be as much a part of the movie as the main characters. I've yet to hear or read any such talk of Archangel.

Maybe, like Storm, Warren will join the X-Men after leaving Apocalypse, and his character arc could then be his struggle with the Archangel persona and how it affects the way he relates to his teammates.

if we see angel in a fight club before being found by apocalypse and for whatever reason given metal wings that's by far more then that's already pretty good development

I imagine he will stand out as the character most transformed by Apocalypse, both mentally and physically.

We are obviously losing the weight of an established X-men turning, but I think the transformation itself will be something to behold. We don't have to know him that well for his corruption to be powerful.

Once marketing starts we will see a lot more stuff of archangel, after all we had several bits of angel/archangel concept art already

Actually, you're wrong! If you'll recall, I preferred the concept of Wolverine being the Horseman Death in this film! I did say that I could understand why they might want to go with Archangel instead, as he's a visually appealing character, but I felt that IF they went with Warren as the Horseman Death that he should be the main Horseman. I also couldn't see a good way to use Wolverine if Archangel was the Horseman instead.

One of my main reasons for preferring Wolverine over Archangel was because Angel is a character that does not belong in 1983. I've always felt that these X-Men films need to do better at maintaining the timeline, something that they somewhat fixed with DoFP, but it seems that they care less about this than many of us. Truth is that Warren should be a baby, at best in 1983, so unless they go with more timetravel stuff he doesn't belong in 1983, and that matters to me.

But fine, they chose to go with Archangel. But the moment we heard that Mags is a Horseman too, that pretty much automatically means that Archangel will be minimized. Mind you he'll still get better development than he did in Last Stand, but seems like a lost opportunity. Yes, it could have been better if Angel was part of the X-Men first, so there was some personal connection, and it would likely have been better if there was some mental manipulation by Apocalypse, to allow the good guys to "break though" to Warren so he could turn on Apoc during the final fight, but looks like we're not getting that.

Just have a big concern that once we have the Horsemen set it's going to be the Magneto show, with Archangel, Psylocke and Stormy playing back-up. Hope I'm wrong, but everyone has to know the Horsemen dialog and story focus will go to Mags.

If we see Warren lose his wings in some kind of hate crime or tragedy, that would create enough sympathy for him without having to develop him that much. At least for me.

I was referring to you insisting that they should have the Archangel in this film no matter what just because Apocalypse and the 4 Horsemen will be in the film. And I remember a couple of people were disagree with you back then.

i am expecting since the horseman won't be brainwashed that there will more questioning and communication within that group and the charm with magneto and storm being there probably helps angel and psylocke have more communication rather then just be random silent henchmen

That would be great for me too. I'm just afraid there might not be enough time to do that. =/

Well if what we heard about him being found in a fight club and if the concept art is anything to go by then it looks like maybe this angel will have his wings in the fight club, similar to maybe wolverine in X1

Bryan singer did say this angel wasnt a nice one so maybe there isn't all that much to his character, but hey any development is better then none

But again that's incorrect. I indicated that I preferred having Wolverine as the Horseman Death over having Archangel. And if they had gone with Wolverine then Archangel should not be in the film.

Effectively, I explained that they should have either Wolverine or Archangel, but if it was Archangel that they should come up with a logical and viable way for him to be there in 1983.

So yes, they chose going with Archangel, but unfortunately it doesn't appear that they are going to have a logical and viable reason for him being an 18 year old (or so) in 1983 when we saw him as a twenty-something year old guy in Last Stand. Just wish they would work a little harder to maintain the timeline instead of just disregarding prior shown characters at a whim. Maybe they will come up with a good reason for him being there, in 1983, but I'm not expecting that.

The events of DOFP altered the course of events and history which is why we're seeing Warren come of age in the 80's as opposed to the OG timeline in the 2000s.

Yeah, but Warren is at least 16 in 1983, which means he was born before the events of DoFP.

I think angel is the most under wrapped character ATM haven't seen much on Ben

This. And it would be a similar enough event to the comics and thematically relevant enough to satisfy.

Angel's growth as an X-Men and his particular struggles can exist whether he's Angel or Archangel.

I remember there being a picture labeled something like "This angel's not so nice," or something of the sort. Comparing that with a more spiritual but demonic-looking Nightcrawler and I guess they're working on something to do with appearances again, although this time tying into religion.

Crossing fingers it works this time. The Rogue Cut had a scene just like that overshadowed by an odd hint of bestiality.

Yeah, but Warren is at least 16 in 1983, which means he was born before the events of DoFP.

New timeline begins at 1973 and angel is born before that. We have to forget Angel being born at 1983, in original timeline X3 we can consider he had same age than Cyclops and cie

But about jubilee, I dont understand why Singer wanted to add her in 1983

i dunno why people think angel is 16 since he could be anything from 16 to 23

and being in a fight club at 16 seems hard to believe, at the very least 18 but probably not 16
