Unless you watch them all in a row to get to Apocalypse you don't really need to watch the original trilogy. New viewers could easily watch FC, DOFP and then Apocalypse and it should make sense. Of course you'd miss the emotional connection in DOFP that the future x-men have for eachother... But all these ' but angel was born in '...' In the original timeline really doesn't matter now. I'd rather have the character born again and used right than the ***** we got in X3.

DoFP had its own share of complaints. In any case, I dont think the issues people are having here about the continuity are just going to go away. I mean it is what it is

Personally i think people will have more an issue with this angels darker characterization then i do continuity

I've never really understood the problem with characters actually being wrong or mispoken. It has been coming up in Rebels with Jedi characters and what Yoda said. God forbid a character being wrong, no you have to come up with complicated reasons to make them right.

Thats suppositions. First Class movie in 2011 retconned Xavier saying "I met Erik at 17" and Apocalypse will retcon age of Jean and Angel in TLS
