Iron Man 3 is better than Spider-Man 3, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Apocalypse, Batman Forever and Superman III. More or less even with The Dark Knight Rises, but not better than Civil War.

As far as third movies go, it's one of the best. The Iron Man trilogy could definitely be a contender for best, but I'd imagine for most it would come down to personal preference.

We have a poll for best first movie, we could move on to best second and third... before stacking up the trilogies in their entirety against each other...

Iron Man Three wipes out the floor with pretty much every CBM threequel bar Civil War and TDKR imo.

I'm not a fan of either Thor movies, but I'm actually very excited for Thor(3):Ragnarok. I bet it's going to be one of the better MCU films this time around.

Marvel films seem to be getting consistently better in quality. Phase 2 had me worried since it started with 2 weak films in a row: IM3 and Thor 2, then it really skyrocketed with The Winter Soldier and GOTG. And I enjoyed Age of Ultron and Ant-Man.

Phase 3 already has a very strong start with Civil War and Doctor Strange. Now we have GOTGV2, SMH and Thor: Ragnarok to look forward to, all of which I'm betting will be great films.

You already did that other thread and IM3 was the clear favorite.

Yeah the IM3 hate is confounding and over-blown.

Would have to strongly disagree with that one. But that's for another thread.

And on that thread IM3 has 60% of the votes. I know you love Apocalypse but I think Spider-Man 3 is worse,Last Stand is worse,Apocalypse is worse. They were all huge disappointments, especially Apocalypse as it probably was the blandest and most uninspired CBM this year. The drop compared to DOFP was huge,it's proven by its poor BO/reception. I get more fun watching X3,seriously. Spider-Man 3 still brings a closure to the main characters' stories in a way that mostly makes sense,Grammar's Beast puts to shame almost every character in Apocalypse. And yes I think saying that XA is good and X3 is bad is a bit unfair,at least we know how rushed and troubled the latter was. Batman Forever? Superman 3? Garbage. I'm not even a huge IM3 fan,I enjoy it a lot like every Marvel movie and for me it's a very underrated movie. Thankfully they spared us Amazing Spider-Man 3.

Oh I know, but I thought we were talking about trilogies as a whole more so than individual movies, so apologies if I have got things mixed up. But as for individual movies I personally prefer Apoc over IM3 but know many think differently. I certainly wouldn't say IM3 wipes the floor with all others though.

Well for the record, I also think Spiderman 3 is under rated for the very reasons you state, amoung some others. X3 though was complete trash and brought its trilogy down hugely.

Apocalypse I like a lot and am not the only one who does, far from it. I also seriously disagree it was the blandest this year as it had a good few moments which most people agree were very powerful. Magneto alone has a few. It still closes out the DC trilogy in a satisfying way while at the same time introducing us to a new young cast which were all good in their roles. I have problems with it as well. But the good far outweighs the bad. The trilogy for me has 2 great movies and one good one which would put it above the IM trilogy which only has one great movie.

But again, its for another thread/poll.

I still like Spider-Man 3,but there are some unwatchable scenes which bring it down big time. And yes I'd still give X3 a pass. It'd be like this:

SM3 6.5
X3 6
XA 5.5

Well we at least agree on Spiderman 3 :woot:. Though I would rate it slightly higher than you as a 7.

X3 I don't actually hate as much as I did in 2006 but still think it's a really, really poor movie. There is a reason they pretty much wiped it out of existence with DOFP. It set the franchise back and ruined the excellent set up of X2. There is also a reason they are looking to adapt the Dark Pheonix saga all over again.

So yeah, I would rate Apocalypse well above X3 as it actually had good character moments and some very powerful moments as well. The new cast were good in their roles and I liked how Apocalypse was done. I also love the Wolverine cameo which finally does his escape from Weapon X right.

There are also rumblings about a reboot. I think Fox doesn't actually know what to do with the main X-Men franchise right now. I like a couple of scenes from Apocalypse, but I felt the script was bad and Singer didn't manage to elevate it. Magneto's subplot was far too cliché, he just goes in circles, Quicksilver's scene was weaker than DoFP's and terribly placed after Havok's random death, Wolverine was the definition of shoe-horning,some lines were terrible, the action and VFX were sub-par,Apocalypse was not interesting and his make-up was distracting, the Horsemen were useless and had no character, even their recruitment was kind of forced, the whole 10 years span doesn't work anymore,I hated Mistique, the movie was too long for a story as simple as that and it became a chore to sit through and so on. The young X-Men were fine though, the Egypt scene was cool as was the nuclear weapons sent in space and the Phoenix unleashing. But there's just too much that I dislike about the movie.

On the movie itself I disagree. I liked a lot more than you did including the titular villain himself and Magneto's arc which is the best one in the movie and offers up see of the films best and most powerful moments.

But I address the reboot thing, it won't be a true reboot as the same article said McAvoy, Lawrence and Fassbender would all have parts in the script. I think they just put reboot in there as a word as they think its what people want to hear.

The final battle with Apocalypse was uninspiring. It felt like I was watching Jean for five minutes slowly walking towards Apocalypse not to mention the five minutes of indecisiveness Storm took. After the Airport battle in CW, I just felt that Snyder can't do a full on team action battle (non drones).

So is hate for second one.

Nah, I'd argue the dislike for Iron Man 2 is palatable, even putting aside how much of an intrusive commercial it is for The Avengers, there are plenty of problems abound in that film that make it feel like a misstep compared to Iron Man.

Now that doesn't make the movie bad. It's fun to watch, though to me, nowhere near as enjoyable or focused as Iron Man.

Apocalypse is the movie that made me believe in superhero fatigue.

Apocalypse the character wasn't so bad. Magneto's arc may have been the best thing in the film, but that isn't saying a lot, as compared to some other rest of the franchise it falls short. The majority of the movie didn't even stay with me. Can hardly remember the new cast. Wolverine was an after thought, a cool moment in the movie but has nothing else to do with anything.

If the X-Men franchise were to reboot I would be totally fine with that. There's been too many bungled moments that they should have learned from with this much experience. Personally, I have no interest in seeing the new cast members from Apocalypse again.

It doesn't have to be an MCU movie, but an actual formation of the X-Men, Beast, Ice-Man, Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Angel recruited by Professor Xavier to face Magneto is a movie that has taken way to damn long to see. If Fox isn't going to make it, then Marvel Studios can do it right. First Class was more than acceptable, but it was not this movie.

Spider-Man 3 holds up really well I started watching it last night. First half up through the first Sand-Man fight scene is actually a very solid movie. Not everything works perfectly, and there's some weird narrative decisions I wouldn't have made with the characters but it is what it is. Compared to the other generally agreed upon as "lesser" third films, it has more than enough to elevate it out of that class.

Fox is so hit or miss. They really don't seem to have a plan with these films.

I thought Apocalypse was hot garbage personally. Worse than X-Men: The Last Stand. Almost as bad as X-Men: Origins Wolverine. Such a shame too after an excellent film like First Class which seem to revitalize these characters combined with a pretty decent (and certainly very well received) Days of Future Past.

Having said that, I think Logan looks pretty intriguing. The trailer was excellent. I'm hoping that might be the first Wolverine movie I actually like.

I feel that when Fox nails it, they really nail it. When they don't, man it's bad.

Yeah fox is really hit and miss. I used to love first class when it came out, although it hasn't held up as well and my enthusiasm for the film has decreased. All the bits with the actual first class are pretty bad. I feel like people who say this is the best x-men movie only remember the great magneto moments, and block out the not so good stuff.

On the other hand, I liked DOFP a lot (one of my favorite comic book movies) but then Apocalypse comes and it's even worse than X3. I don't know what to think. I think it's time to just reboot this whole series, a complete fresh start. Or just start a new continuity from Deadpool.

Can't agree at all with anyone who says Apoc is worse than X3 or Origins, actually couldn't disagree more.

But this isn't the X-Men thread, it's the MCU one, can we please get back to that.

My favorite MCU movie is still the Avengers. Followed closely by Cap 2.

Yeah of course this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. I wouldn't say Apocalypse is worse than Origins. For me that is the nadir for Fox's X-Men franchise. But I actually found things to enjoy about Last Stand - most of all Grammar's Beast. But I found nothing enjoyable about Apocalypse. But I'm sure it has its fans like any film. Don't even know how we got on this topic. Was just responding to what I read LOL. Getting back to it...

Absolutely agree. I enjoy them all but the first Avengers is still tops for me.

I'm usually not too surprised by polls. I HIGHLY doubt Apocalypse would lose to X3 and Origins in a poll. It'd almost be as obvious as most of the 2016 CBM polls this year.

Hmmm.

All the movies with around 90% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes have the most votes.

Yeah, MCU has it's Fierce Five (IM, A, TWS, GOTG, CW).

I'm curious what history would say.

2 years ago TWS and DOFP were neck and neck in terms of polling here. I wonder if that would still be the same.
