Beware the Batman - Part 1

As both a Batman and Cartoon Network fan, this is an insult. If you want to cancel a show, fine. That's your call. But don't backburner it, that just makes no sense.

... at 3am.

Considering a week ago it was never going to air AT ALL, this is still a good development. We live in the age of DVR and the Internet, not to mention the episodes airing in the US means they'll be available on iTunes, PSN, Xbox Store, etc.

I don't have high hopes that it will be renewed and I know it was screwed over by CN. But again, this is better than nothing.

I don't see how having a show with a certain target audience being aired when they're like not to watch it since they'll be sleeping is a good development. You don't do that to keep the show alive. So, it might as well be nothing. They could at least straight up say the show's cancelled.

Re-read my comment. I said it was obviously a *****e move from CN. But again, the episodes are now at least going to be available for people to consume, instead of CN just sitting on them forever.

They don't outright announce cancellations. Also, it should be obvious to anyone with a brain that it was cancelled. I've made peace with that months ago. All I want is to at least finish the season, and I, along with many others, will have the chance to do so now.

I read your comment just fine. The episodes were always going to be available at some point. It'd be a waste for them not to release them online or physically.

They do announced cancellations sometimes as well as saying if they'll air the remaining episodes or not (if they exist).

any slight chance another network could possibly pick up this series?

F U Cartoon Network!!! :cmad:

I've watched up from 18 to 24 and the season finale. Episode 25 is not available to me due to a mistake on Amazon UK. A lot of plot twists occur and the stakes are definitely high. An excellent way to end the season/series, and has a satisfactory ending.

SPOILERS FOR 18 TO SEASON FINALE

The way Deathstroke was integrated in the show was great and took advantage of the show's premise. LOVED the reveals on his past and identity. After the bitter taste that the terrible version of him in Son of Batman left, it's nice to have a great animated Deathstroke once again.

The team-up with Manhunter was also fun. Quite an obscure character for them to choose. The team-up with Oracle was a also fun, and Killer Croc once again was an enjoyable villain. The overall Outsiders team-up for the finale was unexpected but rewarding. I was glad we got to see the team more or less form when it could have been saved for the second season. I was also glad they used Man-Bat as an ally, since that seems to be forgotten a lot, and is a fresh way to present this famous Batman character.

I also liked the compromise they did to make Professor Pyg a bit more like his comic book version. I just hope he gets more victims for his experiments next times beyond just Man-Bat. :cwink:

My one big disappointment was how Harvey Dent was handled. I get that they wanted to do a different spin on him by making him a "two-faced" politician, but they made him too unlikable, and it removes a lot of tragedy of his incident. It's also a shame he was only teased, even after his disfigurement. If he was being saved as a season two villain, we could have at least seen his disfigured face, but the closes we get is his mis-matched eyes under the bandages. His voice sounded good, though.

Overall, this was a great season. It was nice seeing a serialized take on Batman. Even though there are no big cliffangers for a second season, I would have loved to see what they had set-up for it. Too bad this got caught up with Cartoon Network's stupid policies.

I've seen up to episode 16, and so far, it's been incredible. The Ra's three parter was as intense as what we've got in the last several episodes of Arrow. Serializing the show gave it its own voice, and it indeed raised the stakes. IT's a pity we will never get a second season. But at least, we got 26 amazing episodes.

You know what sucks baout Beware the Batman? Besides Harvey Dent as GamerslyRatchet mentioned.

Katana and Anarky, there was nothing amazing about Anarky, this is the villain who was suppose to "up" the game for criminals, but he was always the guy who got beaten, ran away and came up with a new scheme.

Katana sucks, because she's a prime example of why people hate sidekicks: In more time in this show she got her ass beaten, schooled by Batman, etc. Even the episode finale it was just Batman and the other team members mostly, what i'm trying to say is that i felt Katana getting her ass handed to her was building up for some prime Katana saving the day scene, but that never happened.

Of course it's impossible to know what season 2 would have delivered, but man what a cool line up the Outsiders had!

Do you guys think Amnesiac Deathstroke would had been a member?

I've been getting caught up on the final 13 episodes and I have to say I'll really miss this show.

It's very quickly becoming my second favourite animated Batman after DCAU Bats.

I remember being excited about Anarky being a Moriarty or Xanatos-level mastermind, but none of his schemes were ever like that. Anarky was more of a catalyst than a Moriarty. He was the one that gave Ra's to the League of Assassins, leading up to the later events.[BLACKOUT] He was the one that hired Deathstroke, which started the whole event in the last three episodes. He was even the one who, apparently, drives Harvey into becoming Two-Face.[/BLACKOUT] Even in the comic tie-in, it was his deal with Tobias Whale that indirectly influenced a later story.

Anarky in this show doesn't work as a proper character. He's more of a concept, really.

Eeh, I preferred her as a character than the action she got. I enjoyed her role as mutual moral support to Batman, and how her character defied a few "Asian female warrior" cliche. I would have liked her to have properly beaten Lady Shiva, though. Also, I do think they made her too much of a noob on her first few nights out with Batman.

Of course it's impossible to know what season 2 would have delivered, but man what a cool line up the Outsiders had!

Yeah, I quite liked the Outsiders. Glad we saw them before the season ended.

I don't think Deathstroke would have been allowed. Depending on how far his memory was wiped, but if his reputation is true, he had way too much blood on his hands to accept right away. I was actually thinking Mr. Terrific or Plastic Man, since they were set-up. The Creeper, too, since they almost had him in season one.

As for season two, I'm guessing Two-Face (heh) would have been a major presence. Also, I'm guessing they were going to introduce Penguin considering all the teases we got for him.

BTW, Drz, did you get to see episode 25? Mine didn't work for some reason.

Nah, gotta wait like everyone else.

So I searched this on my DirecTV guide and I can not find it in my listings, I have CN West and East.

I starts on Toonami on May 10th at 3AM. Perhaps thats why your guide isn't picking it up yet.

Jeez, really? I mean, I like Toonami. But, damn at 3 AM? Isn't that usually reserved for the shows that have aired re-runs on CN for years? Like Cowboy Bebop, or shows that are on cycle from earlier that night (like having a show that aired at 12, and re-air it at 3).

Just seems...almost vindictive. Almost, because I guess it would be worse to not air it all.

Strangely enough, I wonder how a Batman cartoon would do if given a chance on a good Toonami slot. Seems like it'd be a good fit. Just...you know...not at 3 AM.

By the look of things, CN has some sort of beef with DC. The question is why?

I'm not exactly sure what's the point of this. Cartoon Network cancelled this show almost a year ago. By now, Warner Bros Home Entertainment should have released the entire series on Blu-Ray to satisfy the disappointed fans. Instead, they're doing this which is more insulting than anything else.

The second half will be eventually coming out eventually. They've been pretty good abut DVD/Blu-Ray releases lately.

Not to mention I don't think they're allowed to release THAT big of a number of unaired episodes. One or two is fine, but they're probably required to air most of them before releasing them.

Just finished episode 24. Lovely stuff.

It is too bad there will be no season 2. The back half that CN ditched was clearly setting up some notable story arcs and villians for the next season. They even gave The Penguin a cameo.

Toonami Promo - Beware the Batman May 10th at 3 AM.
