From Variety...(Don't read it because of spoilers)
while Killmonger keeps his cards up his sleeve until relatively late in the film but emerges as the most satisfying comic-book adversary since Heath Ledger’s Joker.

Yea Coogler pulled an okie doke on us with Michael B. Jordan. We all thought he'd be the weakest link for a while and here he was secretly making him the star of the movie!

All I wanted was an above average Black Panther movie.

That's what was on my bucket list.

We may have gotten the Black Nerd Rapture instead.

These reviews are glorious.

Can't wait for a 50% audience score from the DC community lol. That crazy Facebook page got shut down, but I bet this movie will take a hit with the audience scores.

Eh, audience, schmaudience. I’m waiting for the inevitable Armond White pan. :loco:

From the same Variety review:

Truth be told, T’Challa is kind of a bore, even if the movie that surrounds him seldom fails to thrill:

Looks like Chadwick gets Christian Bale'd. Was afraid of this.

That's just one person though. I've seen others highly praise his performance.

Also from Marc Bernardin

In fact, every character’s wants and needs are clearly defined, with one exception: T’Challa’s. When the film opens, he wants to be king. Ten minutes and one ceremonial duel with rival tribe-leader M’Baku (Winston Duke) later, he’s king. After that, he wants to maintain the status quo: Preserve the Wakandan way of life. But the status quo, by definition, is static, and stasis isn’t drama. His romance with Nakia never exceeds nascence; by the time the film ends, you might’ve forgotten they had ever been “a thing.” For too much of Black Panther, the Black Panther has everything he wants.

On top of this, he also is almost entirely devoid of flaws. He’s a deadly martial artist, a stalwart friend, well-educated, even-tempered, quick to smile, and, despite all that, he’s humble. Flaws are the grooves, the nocks that add depth. Perfection in fiction, unlike in life, can be boring. I mean, even Indiana Jones was afraid of snakes.

That's always the double-edged sword from having a great villain. He tends to overshadow the hero who plays the straight man while the villain gets to flex those chops and be more charismatic.

You personally liking the villains doesnt mean its a croc or a farce.

I dislike most of them, how they've been protrayed and how they've been used, for various reasons.

Im telling people they shouldnt like them though.

Oh well, still feel the same way about it.

I can only go about how I feel about it. I don't agree with that notion and I feel it is both a croc and a farce. Tough.

Anywho lets stick to the glowing reviews BP is getting.

Hahaha hahaha we OUTCHEA!

giphy.gif

My reaction too. :awesome:

The Hans/McClain hero/villain dynamic is a one off and can never be realised again let alone surpassed.

Exactly, You hit the nail on the head.

Yeah, looks like Michael B. Jordan managed to redeem himself from Fant4stic (I mean, he already did in Creed, but at least he gets to say he was in a great Marvel Comics movie).

53 and still 100% and 8.6 Avg.

I get the feeling Coogler/MBJ is going to be the next Scorcese/Dicaprio when it comes to one working with the other.

I don't doubt it. Fruitvale Station, Creed, and now Black Panther? Sounds like Jordan has a great working relationship with Coogler. Certainly better than Trank.

Jordan should just let the Trank sleeping dog lie. There is a much healthier alternative for himself and us all :o

Really blown away by this early reception. I couldn't be happier for all those involved behind and in front of the camera.

It reminds me of Ryan Reynold's redemption.

Remember when Ryan Reynolds said he was worried for Jordan's career the most of the F4 cast after F4 was released? Jordan's cast mates in F4 aren't even in his league in terms of popularity, talent and viability.

54 reviews so far, all fresh. I'm going to go with 98%.
