BOUGHT/THOUGHT Thread for 6/21/06: SPOILERS Inside!

I feel that. Like I said, I'll give it a few issues to grab me.

Im on board for the first arc. Hopefully it gets bettre, art wasnt too bad though.

I also read Robin and I got to say, its clear all the haters were overreacting.

All Star Superman #4- Pretty boring. I understand Morrison is giving a nod to some of the old classic Superman stories, but they are just not worth the wait and money. I don't want to drop the book because I'm just waiting for Morrison to start doing what he does best, which I think he'll do shortly. I'm just angry I have to wait and waste money. I'm gonna Hulk out! 3/10
Speaking of which...
Giant Size Hulk #1- Excellent read and there were three stories! All of the stories were good and entertaining. The art was fantastic and was just overall very enjoying. 10/10

52 #7- For the most part I've liked this series a lot. Some plots interest me more than others but I'm sure others feel the same way. I can't stand Booster Gold. He's a good character but he's so despicable that I liked how everyone treated him at the end. He had it coming. The lost space soldiers story has been interesting and I'm looking forward to what happens there. I want more Question in the story though. 9/10

Shadowpact #2- I've enjoyed the first two books of this series but this one doesn't feel as special as the first one but overall it's entertaining and I don't mind the art. It's fun and hokey, and it works because we're dealing with magic and it just feels like a B-movie horror plot. Good stuff. 8/10

Superman/Batman #27- Dull and didn't really care what was going on most of the time. This issue was such a waste. It was just a weird dream that Power Girl was having. Doesn't sound very worthy to be in an issue. 3/10

JSA: Classified #13- It's nice to see the new Alan Scott OYL. Too bad I didn't find him interesting in Checkmate though. But his influences are greater now because JSA and Checkmate and that makes him a formidable hero. 7/10

Justice #6- Yes, every issue feels worth the wait and very satisfying but I'm bored with this title because the last six issues have just been the JLA getting their arses kicked. That's okay, because I've heard issues 7-12 are where the JLA fight back. Now I'm giddy. 8/10

Astonishing X-Men #15- Yes, this series has not been disappointing yet. Every issue is worth the wait because they are so enjoyable. Joss Whedon is the king and is one hell of an X-Men writer and you could definitely sense his auteurism in this work. X-cellent stuff! 10/10

Ultimates 2 #11- An action issue but one hell of an action issue. Though waiting for the next one is going to be a lot harder. I'm not gonna judge Millar's liberalism in this book because I know he's a great storyteller and the end of this series, I bet the story will really say something about everything that has gone in this book. The jackass heroes in the Ultimates (Who I think are still badass, even though they maybe asses), the liberal themes thrown in (because hey, the times reflect the art) and I even like The Liberators. As always, great stuff from Mark Millar. 9/10

Captain America #19- Bru is writing two of the best books in Marvel right now, Daredevil and Captain America. I've always thought Captain America to be pretty corny, but Bru's espionage thriller style for this book is just wonderful. And Union Jack is awesome. 9/10

New Avengers #20- Yes, I seem to be the only one who's liked New Avengers from the start. This issue is an interesting conclusion to the Collective storyarc, Magneto seems to be back in full power and who knows what will happen next. The whole Xorn thing seemed kinda off though. Overall, it was a good issue. 8/10

Flash #1- I'll need more issues to make up my mind about this series but this issue failed to really grab me as a reader. 3/10

I know I'm not the only person who gave this reaction upon seeing the word "Xorn" in NA #20:

Yes, that did raised my eyebrow.

What was up with that? What did Xorn have to do with anything?

I think it was suppose to mean that Xorn was the driving mind behind the collective and was leading it toward Magneto so that he can have all the power and lead Mutants once more. The thing that was annoying was, we don't understand Xorn and no one wants to take five minutes to explain it to us... thus, it's hard to figure out what Bendis wanted to tell us with his mention.

Nah, there's lots of New Avengers fans that have been fans from day one (I'm one), it's just that those who are against New Avengers whine a lot louder.

I think we woulda been NA fans had their biggest threat not been ninjas. Or if they didn't hafta keep callin' outside help to beat their baddies.

Ok, I thought Xorn was the healer guy that Magneto pretended to be? Not some outside "force".

Hmm, well this is one thing we can go back in time and blame Austen for. He just "passed this torch" to Bendis.

Technically we can't blame Austen either. He was forced to include Xorn in his storyline by Marvel... then he left the title and had to take out Xorn before he could be explained.

Personally, I like it for the good stories. They can bring in all the guest stars they want... if it's a good story then I'll like it. So far it's been stellar. And I've liked the rogue gallery thus far. Wrecker, Sauron, Silver Samaraii, Electro, Jigsaw, Carnage, Purple Man, Michael, Klaw, the Void, Hydra, Viper, Super Adaptoid II, Vertigo, and others. I say that's a heck of a lot more than just Ninjas.

Electro passed out after Luke Cage cracked his knuckles...a guy who went toe-to-toe with Spidey countless times.

Carnage was ripped in half in one page.

Purple Man was a better menace in The Pulse and Thunderbolts.

The rest gave way too much trouble to "Earth's mightiest heroes" and really posed more of a threat than they should have. The stories ain't good, they're complete and utter trash.

Bought:

Conan 29
Ex Machina 21
All Star Superman 4
Justice 6
Shadowpact 2
Flash 1
Ultimates vol. two 11
Captain America 19
52 7
Eternals 1
Astonishing X-men 15
New Avengers 20

Thought:

Flash - I haven't read Flash's solo book since I was a little kid and Barry Allen was on trial for murder but decided to give this a try. It was just okay...I'll probably get the first arc.

Justice - Cap Marvel "talking" in outer space...:D.

How awesome was Hulk's dream about killing the New Avengers with his Planet Hulk crew? (Giant-Sized Hulk)

I can't wait for him to get back to Earth. As much as I'm enjoying Planet Hulk, I almost want it to end sooner so we can see him kick some ass on Earth.

I read most of my comics and im too lazy to give full reviews so here are my quick reviews.

Eternals #1- Excellent. JRJr, this is his best work ever.

52-Booster had it coming, great issue.

Robin-Decent, wasnt really that bad, thats not really Cass, pretty damn obvious by Cain's comments.

I've always found Hulk to be catastrophically boring. /shrug

Is that supposed to mean something other than you lack the desire to discuss the issue in a mature and logical manner?

Yeah, we all know you have erectile dysfuction, so it figures you'd hate reading about a regular man who turns into a big throbbing monster.

bringing in the 5-point scale that will rock the faces of Bought/Thought thread viewers from here on

ASTONISHING X-MEN #15: Whedon displays his forte; combining crap-yer-pants drama spiked with pee-yer-pants humor. I mean, Logan, seriously. SERIOUSLY.:D 10/10

THE FLASH #1: It sucked. The writers don't know how to write. I'm pretty sure of that. What does that mean? When writers can't write. What are they then? Writers. Ers? Are they just "ers"? Or are they Professional Word-Gatherers, who string together the teriffic little bunches of letters that make up our language, try to make them relevant to a guy named Bart, and be sure to use the phrase "Speed Force" at least 4 or 5 times? I don't know. But those transitions sure were good--OH WAIT THERE WERE NO TRANSITIONS WHY DID I MENTION THOSE I SHOULDN'T HAVE BECAUSE THERE WEREN'T ANY GOLLY GEE.2/10

I got a lot of stuff, but I don't feel like talking about all of it. So, I'll just give my two cents on the hot topics or whatever.

Flash #1 - I thought it was okay. Nowhere near as bad as a lot of people are saying. It's just set up. I think most of the griping is toward evidence of Bart possibly taking the Mantle. I had come to terms with that possibility a long time ago, so, it wasn't that big of a deal to me. That Griffin guy? Yeah, he's a *****e. But did anybody ever stop and think that, maybe he was supposed to be a *****e? I figure they're gonna do something with him as the arc progresses. New Bad guy maybe. Over all, i'd give it a solid 3 out of 5. Not great, but not bad either.

Robin - Another book people are saying sucked. I thought it was good. Just as good as the entire run has been, which I still feel is up there for best of the OYL titles. I've never been a huge fan of Batgirl. I liked the fact that she could kick Batman's ass. But other than that? Never really appealed to me. So I suppose the shock of her turning into a psyco killer crazy pants isn't as huge for me. Even then, we aren't exactly sure just whats going on with her. I think she's just wacked out and Cain's pulling the strings on all this. But if it turns out she's resposible for her actions, then I wouldn't mind. It's been a great read either way. 4 out of 5. Can'[t wait for Robin/Boomer jr next ish.

New Avengers - I liked this. This whole arc really. Maybe it's just that i've been starving for some real avengers action and finally got it. (Sure, it was no Ultron Unlimited, but it'll do.) Didn't even mind Xorn being the big bad guy in the end. Good to see Daisy again. I enjoyed her in Secret War. Thought that was funny the way she got turned down for membership. Plus, you get to see that Hill isn't such a b***h. She certainly had her chance to off the Avengers. Defied the President to save their lives. Interesting. I'd give this ish a 4 out of 5 as well.

Anyway,Other books I got

JSA Classified #13 :4 out of 5
Annihilation Nova #3 :5 out of 5
Birds of Prey # 95 :4 out of 5
Girls #14 :5 out of 5
Superman/Batman #27 :3 out of 5
