Hulk's a weird case, because yes he's got that troubled filmography, but he's also undoubtedly an A-list Marvel character with a fanbase and one of the biggest cultural icons Marvel and Superhero comics in general has. That's definitely something that you've got to consider when comparing Justice League to Thor Ragnarok. It's basically a Justice League film going up against a semi-Avengers film.

Okay, I'm not a Thor fan, but Ragnarok was AWESOME, better than anything the DCEU has done (including WW) and as good as the very best of the MCU.

Don't know what that means for the box office, but JL will have to do a lot to even get close to this movie. Fingers crossed, as I'm a DC fan, but I have to give the MCU and Taika Waititi mad props.

Glad you liked the movie!

To be honest is Thor R made 125 mil opening weekend, Marvel would be ecstatic. If JL made 125 mil opening weekend, WB would be disappointed.

JL no matter how good or bad should still win the battle of the boxoffice. However just because there is a conversation to be had, is a big win for Thor.

In another circumstances, a first live-action JL film should have easily made 160+ OW.

A Revengers film! Hulk is huge but being for the most part until now limited his potential on film I think.

Pitch-perfect marketing, all signs pointing to a breakout in the general audience, stellar critical reception, and no notable competition the week of release.

I think Thor: Ragnarok is set to erupt at $130m.

Justice League is a little tricker to guess, but I'm going to estimate $135m at a minimum. There's just no way this is opening to less than Suicide Squad.

The fact that this is even close to begin with speaks volumes of just how well Marvel's played their cards in comparison to DC.

The fact that this thread even exists is a win for Thor. This is the justice league, we should have been comparing it to the Avengers box office.

I think it'll depend on WOM. Thor will have really good word of mouth and has over a month until Star Wars releases.

JL will have a strong opening weekend but will it have any legs?

I'm laughing at this comment right now.

Pretty much. Ragnarok most likely will make around $800 million and i don't think JL will hit anywhere near $900 million. Probably the same as Ragnarok - $800 million.

Which is a great BO to predict for a Thor film and not a good BO to predict for a JL film...

Think Thor will hit $130M OW and $900M overall. JL should do $150M opening weekend $1B overall. The fact that Thor (with help from work buddies) is running the entire friggin JL this close shows how much better the MCU has done.

At this point post WW, I think I'd go with JL, but it's really going to depend on how good it is. There's a lot of confidence in the quality of TR, but, c'mon, Supes, Bats, and Wondy??? I don't want to sound like a broken record, but we shouldn't even be wondering. If JL isn't really good, I don't see it doing BvS WW numbers. Thor could do 700-800M. Hell, if people REALLY like it, who knows? I have this feeling that TR might surprise people OW. WW will definitely help JL out of the gate.

Thing is we already had a film with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.

I don't think the novelty is there to make it critic proof like other big event movies.

I hadn't heard an audience laugh so much in a theatre watching a superhero movie ever. And I'm not joking about it. I've watched every superhero movie that's hit theatres since X-Men and I have never heard such consistent laughter. In fact I can't recall the last regular comedy film I saw that got such a response.

At my showing last night I was sitting next to some people who quite obviously hadn't seen it before or even known there was going to be that much comedy in it. They were absolutely laughing their ass off through it.

600/700? Generous? lol
I see that you haven't really been paying attention to the tracking.

Yep. Latest trackings show Thor will hit $400 million worldwide by this Sunday.

$800 or even $900 million is a lock.

chose JL in the poll b/c imo its more likely to gross more domestically
OS Thor may have an edge tho but wont be enough to compensate for bigger JL DOM

I want to be wrong tho
Go Thor (& Hulk!)!

I'm thinking this will do somewhere in between what Guardians v2 and SMH did. Just one hell of a fun ride people are going to love this movie!

That's what I'm thinking. Was surprised to see this thread existed. Then I opened it expecting 90% votes for JL....and Thor 3 is ahead??

Wow.

Just looking at the box office for BvS and SS tells me that they don't even have to make good movies and DC fans will still line up to see them. If JL is bad it will clear 800m. If it is good then 900 shouldn't be a problem.

In fairness though, Iron Man 3 is a 'bad' movie as is IM2 and they cleared big bucks, so the 'DC fans will watch any old tosh' is not just DC specific, it could be said for Marvel as well.

One negative aspect of the universe model which I love is that the ****test films can see a boost just from being in the universe and living off the work of the good films in that universe. This likely affects all of the universes and even sequels in general.
