I could swear there was a thread here regarding the box office of Ghost Rider & another thread about the competition. Is it me or am I crazy? Anyways I can't find those threads in the 5 pages so if I missed them and a mod sees it...please merege. Anyways...

I thing GR is gonna break the Presidents day record and score at least 65 million over those 4 days and not a penny less. I also am expecting 120-130 million maximum domestic box office. I think the nature of the film doesn't appeal to everyone but it should have a very hard core strong following. Front loaded for sure. Not sure if it can break the overall February record...in fact that would be real hard so that's my opinion and I'll be adding a poll in a sec. The reason I feel this is because the movie looks awesome, there's no competition on this level whatsoever, it's getting promoted like a huge summer film, and people are going to be thirsty for this stuff with a 3 month wait before Spiderman and then FF. Let's all hope. The competition looks lousy to me and while some interesting movies are opening around Ghost Rider's date...none of them are on this level. I mean look at this trailer for Hannibal Rising. LOL This is bad.

The poll here is multiple choice with the first half being for opening weekend, and the second half being the total domestic gross estimates by you.

Votes are public so just check 2 boxes that would apply.

20-30 ......... 100-110 mil

great poll btw.... it does it justice.

$28 million opening weekend.

$90 million total domestic.

$190 million total WW.

Well if Ghost Riders bike can go underwater, then lets hope it sinks Titanic....lol:woot:

$35 million opening weekend.

$100 domestic.

I can't even begin to guess worldwide. Maybe $190-200 million? Just trying to be realistic.

DVD sales will be phenomenal.

35 million opening? Raven you gotta put things in perspective here. Remember it's a 4 day tally we're talking about. Daredevil made over 40 million in that slot with much lower ticket prices. Hell this movie looks far superior to Daredevil, and has higher ticket prices, and no competition. Ghost Rider also has a much bigger marketing camapign and Ben Affleck isn't in it. I think not having Affleck in it adds 20 million to the box office by default. ;) Daredevil also opened when the entire East Coast was paralyzed by a massive blizzard which greatly effected the box office that weekend. If GR only makes 35 million opening weekend it would be a tough road to 100 million with a 3.0 multiplier after a holiday weekend.

Hey, I've never pretented to be some box office wizard, man. I don't know how this crap works. If I did I wouldn't be flippin burgers.

I did miss the 4 day weekend part though, so yeah, $35 million is low. And I forgot how well DD opened.

Plus, in my lovely little hick town, our theater is usually dead Jan-Feb (even on Friday nights it's pretty empty) and I always (wrongly) assume it's like that everywhere. And now I can't take my vote back.

Mostly I was being cautious because I hate when I vastly overestimate a movies potential.

Anyway, I hope it brings in mega $$$.

Can I have the happy meal please? ;)

I figured you were going off a 3 day tally.

Haha, awesome.

"And you, maam? How's the food?"

BLEEAARRRGGHHH!!

"I think we have a critic."

Opening Weekend 25-28 million

Total Domestic Gross 60-70 million

I see it doing around the same as V for Vendetta.

Yes you are "mentally insane". LOL Sure it'll do 60% of Daredevil's gross in 2002 dollars. Mkay.

I ain't been following this movie much but I think it's time I start now.

But I didn't know people were this excited about a GR movie.

Anyone know if GR is going to be at a fastfood joint?
BK advertising Flame Broiled would be perfect! lol

Looks like somebody forgot that we have a non spoilers section now. Tsk, Tsk AD.

The box office thread from before is located here: http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258394

I would love to merge them but, unfortunatly, both have polls. That would cause both polls to not exist. Either way, this is a good thread and we'll keep it. Perhaps I'll rename the old one to a 2006 version or something... perhaps close it. Hmmm...

^ Should everything in the spoilers forums be for spoilers or should it be just a forum where spoilers might be found. Personally I never go in the non-spoiler forums and when you look at the activity on the non-spoiler forums across the board its very low. Every spoilers forum has a box office thread without exception including Hulk, Fantastic Four, X3, Spiderman 3, etc...That way people can discuss the box office and perhaps explain why they think it'll make a certain amount of money which would include spoilers.

Well, right now I'm using the spoilers forum for threads about definite spoilers. Pics, confirmed news, things like that.

The non spoilers section is for general discussion. If it ends up having spoiler talk, we'll use spoiler tags, or move the thread. Like I'll do w/ this one. To me, this is a non spoiler thread...

Im going to put my predictions down now, first 4 days..less or equal to 20 million dollars.Total will be 111-120 million.

For the first 4 days, I'll be conservative and say 40-50 million but there is no way in hell that can believe that Sony would invest 120+ million into a project that wouldn't make at least that much back. Not in this day and age. Of course, with Spidey, they do have a lot of money to throw around so...

Either way, Sleeper hit. 120+ Million Domestic.

I truly wonder if the flaming skull is going to freak parents out. Parents thought DD was another Spider-Man type flick. There's no mistaking the Ghost Rider image for anything but demonic. I think GR is going to be a great film but it'll be hindered at the box office somewhat. Probably arrives at around a 45 million opening for four days and ends just breaking across the 100 million domestic mark. Non kiddie films seem to be in a non summer funk nowadays. The Departed had everything going for it and it opened at 25 million and stayed steady to only around 120 million domestic. GR won't have those kind of legs even though it's a PG-13 movie instead of R rated.

Judging by the awful T.V spot during Idol last night I still reckon this movie will open decently and fall off the face of the earth in it's second and third weekends. It looks so awful that I'm quite sure it couldn't possibly be as bad as it looks. Reviews will be read for the sheer entertainment factor, thats for sure.

GhostRider isn't a popular character and Nick Cage doesn't open movies well unless it's produced by a certain producer. The action, CGI and lack of movies of it's sort should bring some people out but I think that 100 million is a pipe dream. 28-35 opening and awful legs should yeld it 80 to 90 million dollars. The international numbers are another story, with the exception of Spider-Man and Fantastic Four these loud superhero comicbook movies almost never make as much as in the U.S. Superman didn't do it and neither did Batman. On the other hand the big CGI action scenes might put it over the edge. I'm thinking 90 million with and outside chance of 100mil.

First off, I thought that the TV spot during Idol was awesome, and it got me pumped for the film! (of course, I already was...)

Secondly, I'm guessing that this film will attract a LOT more people than we think...I mean c'mon, look at Stomp The Yard...:woot:

Next, GR is a VERY popular comics character, just not AS popular as others. Nic Cage movies always bring in the money, and if you're complaining about the CGI, you're crazy. You need only to look at the official website's page for the synopsis...I think thats the one that has the really REALLY good shot of GR. There has been an amazing CGI improvement since this time last year!

I'd say we can expect about $30-45 million opening weekend...well, I hope.

Good for you but I obviously think that it looks like crap.

Stomp the Yards numbers are only surprising to people who haven't been following the boxoffice and people who think that movies will perfrom badly dispite evidence to the contrary. Dance movies have been doing some fairing decent numbers for a long time now. Unknown comicbook characters boxoffice haven't done huge numbers by in large. DareDevil bearly cracked a 100mil and had alot more media hype than GR.[/B]

I disagree, most people don't even know one thing about the character and I like Cage but until NT he was on a huge losing streak that looks to have flaired up again with Wicker Man which just a few months ago and he had Antbully but Worldtrade Center did do alright. Still way more outright expensive bombs than successes in just the last few years.

I think that 45 mill is out of the question.

Definitely more than the Punisher, by far, by just a tad less (or perhaps very close to) Fantastic Four - that is if Sony pumps it up and advertises it like a big summer movie... here's hoping.

Sony brought us Spider-Man, unlike Fox's hacking and slashing of their hero films, so the end product will definitely be top quality. Currently reading the book/screenplay and it reads great and will probably trasnlate to screen in an epic way... Now it's up to the marketing department.
