I always laugh whenever someone says the only reason a movie made a decent profit is because they marketed the hell out of it. No ****, Sherlock. What studio doesn't do that? Even if I got a sure thing like a Spidey franchise I'm still gonna get its name out there.

This is another example of power to the people. Which makes me happy even though I didn't care for the movie. An interesting developement I know Hollywood is going to re-evaluate. I bet there's a new name for this phenomenon I haven't yet heard.

Well let's hope that the BO keeps growing larger and doesn't drop to a trickle a week.

Yay! Sleeper hit folks. I said it a million times and it's nice to see it finally happening.

I guess next weekend is the biggest test now.

Oh, and screw the critics!

It made way more than I expected yet I guess we shouldn't be surprised. SONY's marketing machine hard at work again ( DaVinci Code anyone? ). They plugged it in all the right places without overselling the film.

I personally LOVED the FX and technical parts of the film but I thought the direction and acting was terrible. The FX really saved this movie.

Would not be surprised if SONY returns the rights back to Marvel and thanking their own Marketing department for saving the film. They did this with Hellboy (although I think Hellboy was a better film than GR), which is now at Universal Studios.

^ It happens quite a bit. He's just cool looking. :) Different reasons unknown characters make it big like Shrek, Ghost Rider, Indiana Jones, etc...The Marvel brand, state of the art CGI, the star, the director, etc...The marketing really helped quite a bit and the investment in updating the CGI certainly is what made this film worthwhile.

This film has the potential of endurance. It's surrounded by Dump films during the dump month season. I don't think 300 is going to do that phenomenal of numbers because most people here in the Los Angeles areas have been laughing and snickering during the previews for it.

Visit the Celebrity/Industry blogs (OhNoTheyDidn't, Fark, Perez Hilton, etc...), most younger and 30-somethings have been trashing it.

Ghost Rider has alot of potential to make alot of money and if the makes close to 150 then I wouldn't be shocked to hear Sequel news.

I have no doubt that there will be a sequel. It's just how long it'll be until we get one that's the question.

2 years. They'll be filming Ghost Rider 2 in 2008 I'd imagine for a 2009 release. It should be a quick turn around like FF.

Soon damnit! I want more. And I second that "screw the critics!" They've probably nevar read a comic in their lives, well except harry but harry's got issues so whatever.

Harry has more then issues. Critics. :woot: They wouldn't know a good fun movie if it fell on them.

Is this movie a success or failure.Since i was one of the few who voted for 15 million for the opening weekend. Will this be another failure,or a average success.

^ Well since it made 51.5 million or possibly higher on opening 4 days...I'd say that's a huge success. It beat MOST people's expectations. I actually thought it would hit 50 million minimum when getting right down to it but thought it could possibly hit 65. I was surprised Friday didn't hit 20 million but then the Saturday rise made up for a bit of that. Should hit 110-130 million range which is awesome for this character. That's only domestic. Overseas is off to a great start as well. 250 worldwide would be solid then dvd sales, tv rights, etc...It'll make plenty of profit.

Is that 120M with marketing or without, because the marketing had to be between 20-30M?

Thanks terry78.... $60 million worldwide, half way there. I hope it finish at least around $150 million ww.... I know that's streching it.

I predicated about 70-80 million in the boxoffice thread before the film was released and I'm sticking with that.

That's what I predicted. This movie certaintly won't end up being a hit with its final domestic gross. I don't know how the budget ended up being in the 110-120million range. This is one of the worst comic book movies I've seen in the past 5 years. Catwoman and Eletra are the only ones I dislike more. Avi Arad needs to stay away from producing any future Marvel comic book films.

Avi's the man...period. You should probably read about what he's done for the industry before you make ignorant comments.

^ You weren't very good at math were you? We're at over 66 million Worldwide only counting Fri-Sun international. Even if Ghost Rider drops 50% per week through it's entire run it'll break 100 million with relative ease domestic. It's only opened in 24 markets on the international front with most of the large markets left and it's been #1 in 21 of those 24 markets. Are you saying it'll only total 50 million internationally and that's a stretch cause it's already got 16 in the bag with huge markets left. LOL Ghost Rider will breeze past 200 million worldwide. I'm guessing 225-250 million. Maybe more.

Who said GR will only drop 50%? I'm predicting it has somewhere in the range of a 60 to 70% drop during its second week. Word of mouth can kill these types of films. X3 was well on its way to make over 300million and it barely broke 230mil. It had a over a 65% drop during the second week. If my prediction ends being right GR won't even break 80million domestically. Mind you that I predicted X3's domestic gross to end up in the 230 to 235million range domestically after it was released.:woot:

I'm not sure about how well GR does worldwide but, I'm sure it won't be anywhere close to what your predicted. When my prediction comes true I'll come back to this thread to remind you about it just like I already did with all the people who laughed at my prediction of X3's domestic gross.

^dont forget the studios only see about 55% of that money.

I liked the film, but it's merely won the opening battle of the war. Next weekend will be huge for it. If it drops more than 60% that'll be a pretty good indicator of it's WOM and its chances of getting near the $200 million range domestically

I realize that the studio only gets 55% but they also get the DVD revenue, tv rights for network, cable, ppv, etc...Marvel get's a % of that since GR is licensed out to Sony (they had to at the time) but Marvel also gets the merchandise revenue. :) Also product placements help and people that wish to use GR to advertise there products help pay down the costs.
