Ant-Man Box Office Predictions - Part 1

I think scheduling is the biggest hurdle for Ant-Man getting a sequel.

You don't want to wait too long to give a movie a sequel.

Yeah. I think that's probably right. They have a full deck going forward and one of the upcoming movies could end up being a monster.

On a related, but slightly off topic, anybody else besides me think BOM is silly for having a Showdown for the "Marvel Cinematic Universe - Phase 2" and NOT have "Avengers: Age of Ultron" included? It is literally the only one missing.:loco::doh::argh:

Maybe they meant non-Avengers movies?

Yet, it's called "Phase 2 Showdow "...

Argh.

I think it's a VERY good possibility. It has yet to open in Japan and China and got what I think is a better slot (albeit later) in China. It will "easily" pass 400M with its current openings. As Old Guy said though, it got severely cut back in Korea and the box office went way down.

That ok, it's still done much better than GotG over in SK and looks to likely do around Thor2 numbers there($21m). In fact GotG is the only phase 2 film that comparatively bombed in SK(only $10m). The rest made between $21m(TDW)-$78m(AoU). I guess they just didn't get the humor over there I guess.

Well, like I've said, the humor in GotG was at times very difficult to translate into another language. The obvious example is when Drax says nothing goes over my head...reflexes....catch it. Ant Man doesn't use those sorts of figures of speech (at least I don't remember them).

Yes but some of the funniest parts are when luis tells his stories. That has to be difficult to translate?

I don't think so. Everyone has slang. You just use it as appropriate for each country. Idiom usage is really problematic because I doubt that the Chinese (for example) language has a saying that if something goes over your head, it also means you don't understand. I don't see how they could possibly get that joke to work.....

Agreed....the stories with his voice dubbed were very amusing.

EDIT: Rats, beaten to it.

Waiting longer won't hurt it but might help it since in between he'll be in Civil War and probably both Infinity Wars which can only help his popularity and a sequel.

It will be interesting to see what his role in IW will be. CW seems a little bit easier to imagine.

Hey, it's all in good fun!

Per mojo, Ant-Man is losing 377 theaters this weekend. Still at 977, which isn't bad for a movie that's been out 2+ months.

I was just over there and could not find that info.

What does it say F4 is losing?

It's already passed TFA in actuality by now. All we're doing is waiting until tomorrow for today's #'s to be reported.

The last 2 week's drops average out to less than a 25% drop each week. Assuming this continues to hold then it'll be knocking on Thor1's door by 3rd week of October.

Hopefully it will keep as many screens as needed.

So Ant-Man gets a sequel now, right? It's passed Cap 1 and will pass Thor worldwide and they both got sequels. Jah?

Oh, I know. Just funny that it came so close Thursday.

BO.com estimate for the weekend is $935,000, putting it at $177,585,846 domestic. So farewell to TFA and ahead full to Thor!

Excellent!

And I bet there are still some out there that so badly want to paint this out to be a failure. haha
